I mean it's very worth noting that these places where we're seeing these riots are largely minority populations but represented by a lot of white people somehow.
On the whole I guess I'm still somehow mystified by how hard it apparently is to just be decent to people. Granted I'm at heart a dumbshit idealist, but it really isn't that hard to just not be a shit.
I'm not sure If I believe blacks have had it much worse than gays. Gays have been persecuted in western culture ever since Constantine made christianity to official religion of the Roman Empire, and in the middle east even before that, so that's a very long time. Blacks have never been disowned by their families and communities for being black. There weren't any safe havens for gays until quite recently. For centuries gay people have had to live in secret in fear of being caught and executed. Black people don't have to listen to their own parents tell them how they're worthless and wish they'd never had them, or their church telling them that they will burn in hell for being black. I remember a black man discussing this issue say, "But gay people can hide the fact that they're gay." To which was replied,"Would you ever want to hide the fact that you're black?". People who hide their homosexuality live in a prison where they're afraid and very unhappy. The ability to hide it is no gift. One could come up with a million differences between what the two minorities have had to deal with, but it seems like most people who instantly say that blacks have had it worse only think of gay people as the ones they see getting married on tv, or know a lot of black history but nothing about gay history.
