Yeah, that's sleep apnea (the condition, I mean). I have it, a mild-to-moderate case. Meaning, I stop breathing for a period of 10+ seconds 15 times an hour on average. Which is a lot of time to not get oxygen. >_< I actually have a sleep test (as in, bring your pajamas and toothbrush to our clinic!) scheduled for next month to look at getting the mouth guard, because the other option was to sleep with a breathing machine -- a nose mask with tube that pushes air through and adjusts the pressure when it detects the user is no longer breathing normally. This one was a bit hard to sleep with if one doesn't always sleep on one's back. It also loses some efficacy if one's cats perforate the tube...
My sweetie has the breathing machine but never wore it. He doesn't need it now anyways because his particular condition was caused by obesity and now his weight is normal. He never wore it because he said it was too uncomfortable. That's hard for me to imagine since he could sleep through anything.

I actually get horrible nightmares if I sleep on my back. Lots of sleep paralysis fits too, I can never sleep longer than 45 minutes on my back.
I do want to get tested for sleep apnea as well though
I actually just went through a series of sleep tests and found I have mild obstructive sleep apnea. Ever since I got a mouth piece my fit bit has shown that I sleep restfully about 6-7 hours a night versus the 2-3 i was getting before it. It made quite a difference for me.
I sleep on my side or my back. My mattress is too firm so sometimes when I sleep on my back I end up bending my knees, which turns the covers into a tent. If I do that for too long, my kneecaps feel like they're going to pop off. Side is best.
oh yeah lol, i forgot that's the main reason i have to use my side - i'm taller than my bed is long, and i can't stand my feet hanging over so i have to bend my knees
I tend toward a three-quarters position, halfway between side and belly. I feel like I'll tip over if on my side, but sleeping fully on my belly is only going to work with a specially shaped bed for my rack of doom.
Oh, wait, I didn't scroll enough to see that the convo has moved on. Stupid chatforum. :P
