Not letting gays join makes sense though, because it's an all-male organization, and it wouldn't be right to have gays with all those boys. At the very least, it would be incredibly awkward.

Sure they have the legal right to discriminate all they want to, just like the Klan does. It is often up to society, not the courts, to determine what is and what isn't acceptable - and they do it with social and/or economical consequences, not legal ones. For example: it's not illegal to scream 'FUCK YOU' in little old ladie's faces. You won't be arrested and charged with being an asshole, but you probably won't have any meaningful relationships nor hold any space in society or have any respect from anyone. You can weigh the pros and cons and make the choice.
The BSA is in their right to discriminate all they want to, it's up to society to decide whether or not to support them. This is why we wrote the letter and this is why we wont shop at that store anymore. They have lost ALOT of financial support from huge sponsors by holding onto these policies. They will continue to lose support if they continue to discriminate, it's their choice. If they DO decide to change, then it will probably be because of the consequences of not changing. The ball is in their court, we just have to shout at them from the stands.
LOL straight guys should LOVE the fact that there are gay men out there. They tend to be the best looking guys around. By being gay, they are lowering the competition - and the fact that the gay guys are hot makes it an even bigger plus since if they were str8 then most of u guys wouldnt stand a chance!
