The saddest part of all is that you have kids who go into scouting with respect for one another, then after being exposed to the controversy they become enemies. Is that really what this thing is supposed to be about? Why cant those old fucktards see that?
They cite all of their reasoning in scripture and in ridiculous ideas that homosexuality is 'taught' to young people, and they also advocate that gay scout leaders are more likely to be pedophiles. Completely backward, ignorant retards.
Where did you hear that? I have never heard any of it, and I am in the Boy Scouts.
EDIT: Bluh. Those last two posts didn't show up until I reloaded the page.
From what I know, they aren't exactly anti gay or atheist, they just don't allow them to join. I'm sure there's far worse discrimination elsewhere. And no I'm not either of those.

There are many many pages on the interweb about it, but here's a basic outline on wikipedia. I havent read this, and it IS a wiki, so.....well, you know. Anyways:

That message of intolerance is quite damaging to impressionable young people, especially coming from an organization that is supposed to have the reputation of being the epitome of good values. So by saying 'they just don't allow them to join.' it sounds far less harmful than it fundamentally is.
i mean if it were called The Straight Boy Scouts of America and their activities focused on watching heterosexual porn or something, then of course they have a reason for not allowing gay people to join
"Spirituality has been an integral part of the international Scouting movement since its inception."
"Religious organizations host/sponsor over 60% of the approximately 123,000 Scouting units in the United States and use the Scouting program as part of their youth ministration."
"In reciting the Scout Oath, Scouts promise to be morally straight and to do their duty to God; the Scout Law holds that a Scout is clean and reverent."
Girl Scout policy states that the word "God" may be interpreted depending on individual spiritual beliefs. When reciting the Girl Scout Promise, "God" may be substituted with the word dictated by those beliefs.
