it's weird for about five seconds and then the novelty wears off and it's just so incredibly mundane, just like talking to people online. guess i don't know whether i'm different online or what so i can't speak to that.

I've never met anyone i first contacted online in meatspace. A bit glad, tbh.

I can't imagine anyone would be *exactly* the same online and offline. For me it works both ways. I'm careful not to let anyone online know anything about me that I don't like about myself; things that people would probably notice instantly when talking to me irl. But at the same time I am more likely to speak my mind, say weird things, etc. which would probably turn people off irl.

i think i act very similarly to my online self irl. i talk a lot to people i like about things i like, which is very obvious if you look at the anime thread. (lots of double posts, caps lock, etc)

i'm pretty open about myself i guess. i willingly share not-so-great things about myself because i don't feel bad/embarrassed about them. i value my online friends a lot so i share things about myself proportionately. (not saying that you don't value yours, just that i treat mine like irl friends)

yeah i'm definitely the same way in terms of valuing "online friends" in that i don't make a distinction between online and offline. who cares. think that's hard for some people to wrap their heads around, especially eg older people, so it should be exciting to see the day where it's the socially normal thing to do. or maybe that day is already here.

i'm probably quieter irl btw.

Are you talking about things which you yourself can laugh at, or things that you really, really hate about yourself? I think I would try to hide things like that from even my rl friends if I could, so I guess I don't make much of a distinction between online and offline friends either. I certainly don't value one over the other, anyway.

certainly many things from the first one, but i also share some things from the latter category as well. just depends on how the conversation's going - if i feel like sharing something, i share. sharing helps me deal with whatever problem i'm talking about.

That's different, it's just professionalism or whatever you want to call it. I mean stuff like the way they portray themselves and act in a conversation. I just have a hard time imagining someone who's savvy with the Internet but is the same way offline as online. They're like two near-incompatible cultures, and even if you're in the same group of people I'd expect habits and stuff to be different.
Also Del Taco > Taco Bell. Have fun with that.

i live on the east coast. ;(

i see what you're saying and no doubt it's true but i guess when i talk about how someone acts i don't take the obvious differences like those into consideration.
