Again, I don't really care about realism, or how much sensibility there is from the scientific aspects of that show. I don't like the writing and episode structure of Star Trek, that's all. And I have heard some good things about Battlestar Galactica. Maybe I should check it out one of these days. Wink
Star Trek guru here. No, I'm not offended or anything. Just wanted to throw something out there - maybe you should give Star Trek: Deep Space Nine a go instead of The Next Generation.

The Original Series (the original Star Trek from the 60s) as well as The Next Generation are mostly a collection of random episodes indeed. Although, there is a bigger picture. But, it's mostly something only Trekkies like myself would truly appreciate.

However, DS9 is basically one continuous story that slowly moves from theme to theme throughout its 7 seasons. But, it's all very much tied to each other, all linked somehow. If you're into lengthier stories (which I can completely identify with), seeing as how you like Galactica (which has a very complex and involved story)... you may want to give DS9 a go.

If you do, let me know how you liked it.

isn't star trek more about the characters and their interactions with each other and the various aliens they come across? the sci-fi is just a premise really.

<333. so cute how she's always worried about how she's viewed when she's already better than everyone else at everything.

also good to know that she could give me blood if need be.

I kid you not! Surprised  I thought of...  well, actually, I thought of this place having an Anime section just the other day, but a topic...  That's close enough.

In another forum (i reluctantly administrate) we have a movies and anime section.  That way topics can be made for certain films. I'm not saying that should be done here though. Confused

But, whatever. Razz

WHY DID YOU WATCH THAT

My girlfriend's best friend roped us both into it.

Sounds like your girlfriend is a bad best friend if she couldn't manage stopping her best friend from getting into twilight

To DS9 that does hold kind of true. DS9 is more about the political and social issues in its story than it is about the SF.

The others are more about the SF though - TOS and TNG are a random collection of SF episodes with some subtle hints of a grander story. Voyager is action-SF in Hollywood-style. And ST:ENT, well... being a real Trekkie, I refuse to acknowledge the existence of that abomination. ;)
I doubt Deep Space 9 will change my mind about the series, at all. Oh, and just for the record: Star Wars > Star Trek. All day, any day.

Bit odd to compare a series of films with a TV series, but I'm sure many would agree with you.  Personally, I've never been that sucked into the whole Star Wars thing.

I like Star Wars better because it has way more action, and a much more exciting plot. Evil empires, Jedis, and interstellar combat are way cooler than the "space adventure of the week" feel of Star Trek.

I enjoy both series.  Star Trek is easier to relate to since it deals with alot of issues involving human culture and evolution.  There are no humans in Star Wars so it comes across more definitely as pure fantasy, but no less fun.
To be honest, you can't honestly begin to compare Star Wars to Star Trek. Star Wars is more of a philosophical/metaphysical story whereas Star Trek is more of a down-to-earth semi-scientific story.

Personally, I love them both... for their very own reasons.

@Idkbutlike2 - If you like action, Star Trek does offer it. Ever seen the 2 part episode 'Scorpion' (Star Trek: Voyager)? Or 'The Year of Hell', also Voyager. Plenty of examples like it. There's several evil 'empires' in Star Trek as well, The Borg for one. A cybernetic 'species' aiming to assimilate all other forms of life into their collective.

???  I find it very easy to compare the two.  They're both science fiction series in a setting where different races from different planets interact with one another, sometimes for the better and sometimes not.  They have many differences to be sure, but it's not so vast as to say that they cannot be compared easily.
