I read the slashdot review when I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on, and it sure seems like nobody got it. The "music, art, and math are all the same thing" is something a kindergartener could guess from the title.
Went to one day of a symposium put together by Hofstadter and talked with him a little bit. Not about anything important, though. That part of the symposium was on computers composing music, rather interesting.
Right, I picked up a Hori SCII Arcade Stick today from a random import shop we have near us, and it is awesome and sexy and awesome.
HOWEVER, I'd also like to use it on the PS2, as, basically, the GC controller can't touch the PS2 one for fighting games, and this is what all my mates use. I therefore need to find a GC controller -> PS2 adapter, a peripheral that doesn't seem to exist anywhere in the known universe. I'd appreciate it if anyone could find one for me or give me a name or something. Cheers.
Hori sticks rock. The newest ones aren't bad (SC2, T5 release sticks) aren't bad. My favorite sticks though, by far, is the DC one (gray with green buttons), and the OLD namco tekken one (black with yellow buttons). Particularly the namco one.
Edit: Oh crap, I just realized you were looking for a gamecube to psx converter... gimme a bit to look around.
Edit 2: Holy shit, it really doesn't exist... if I were you, I would have just bought the ps2 stick and used a converter for your GC, since it would appear that every known converter is all about using the psx pad.
Izo, you are in luck. I recently ordered a PS2-->all controller adapter made by this company called MayFlash from Play-Asia, and they also have this'un here:
Look again, Saber. If I'm seeing things correctly, Izo bought a GC stick, and wants to use it on the ps2. However, there just doesn't seem exist anything that converts the GC controller to a different console.
They had the stick randomly; I doubt they've had one before, or get another one. My best guess is that someone sold it to them after they got bored with it or something.
ark: get. gmail. now. I've been using it for all of my mail dealings that aren't realted to things like spam, and whatnot. one gig of storage is the biggest point for me, and there's the ability to put tabs on your mail. makes it easy to find stuff. and if you can't download it, just ask somebody you know that uses gmail to send you an invite to set up your acct. best email ever.
Samurai: Yeah, I've heard how awesome it is; it's just hard for me to part with my two hundred Hotmail emails that I've kept. idk, I might change to Gmail soon, anyway. My sister would be happy to send me an invite.
Has anyone heard of this new television series called Surface that only airs on monday and only on nbc? If not then ill try to explain the storyline as simple as i possibly can:
- two people witness the creature's appearance, 1 discovers the eggs.
- eggs hatch, fish tank breaks.
- Person who discovers eggs tries to bond with the hatchling.
- the two people who withness the creature get into big trouble (you will understand if you have seen it). - person who tries to bond with hatchling gets into uber trouble.
- And finally, many other people witness the creature.
Okay, let's kick this personal return off with an uber post, because like you said, gravedigging is perfectly allowed in this topic, and as you have not said, there is no limit to how many points are brought up in each post. Also because I don't want to create a whole bunch of consecutive posts for one thing. Hopefully I can refresh the pages enough in other tabs to keep logged in long enough to type it all. And...GO!

Homosexuality:
Personally, I feel people will always be telling other people what they should do, how they should act, who they should like, etc. whether they know them, have any real experience in the matter, or...not. I guess it's all about how other people think the world should be, and nobody cares how it really is, or even what other people want out of it. Others may persuade them to believe other things, and years of persuasion and reinforcement can lead to strong beliefs. I've been raised on the belief that other people have both their own beliefs and the right to protect those beliefs as long as they don't harm any others.
As has been brought up in topics long gone, studies have shown that due to constant barrage and rejection from society, homosexuals are statistically more violent than normal people. I don't know if how I said that was quite accurate, but you get the general idea. People have seen what destruction can be provoked out of individuals of any orientation just because of hate. I remember attacking people on several occasions just because I felt picked on and didn't know how to healthily release the compounded stress caused by even the slightest of outcastings. To be blunt, it sucks ass. To have to go through life knowing someone out there just like you is being tormented for being just like you is bad enough. I don't personally think I can stand what homosexuals have to deal with. You can't blame them for who they are, as they're most likely not gonna affect you. Why bother judging them?
About gay marriage, as I've heard around here, marriage is a term specifically used for straight couples. If a gay couple can't get the same legal advantages as a straight couple does simply because they're gay, can the government give marriage those advantages without going against their own laws, or even the first amendment of the Constitution? With this reasoning, either religion's gonna change their definition of marriage, or government is gonna change their position on marriage in general. Then again, I'm sure the struggle is going to continue until people either forget about the issue or everyone becomes straight. But what do I know? I'm an amateur citizen. :P

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do: You know, the whole losing friends bit.
I graduated from High School 4 months or so ago (no frickin' clue how I got out of there so quickly...must have sequence broke or something on accident). Anyway, that whole last semester I had been hanging out with some new old friends (I hung out with a few of them before but they disappeared for a while when chess club ended, which is a short story for another random time). We were all like "Yeah, man, we gotta keep in touch, you know? Gangstas fo' life, yo!" Not long after graduation, I called one of them up and we set up a day where we'd all hang out at his place and play Halo for "old" time's sake. I show up, we play a few rounds, and wonder where everyone else is. It was just me and that one guy. Everyone else was apparently too busy. I called them up a few more times, but now this guy never has his phone on when I call, another doesn't recognize my voice, and I wasn't really that close to the others. Then there was one other guy who's AIM SN I have, but he never signs on. I need to call them up again and see what's up, because I pretty much have no close friends in real life anymore, and I therefor have little reason to go outside...or least less than I used to. If I can't keep my high school friends, I really need to make some new ones quick. Strangely enough, the entrapment of High School that I hated oh so very much for several reasons was apparently the only thing that kept me close to anyone. I think this is mostly why I was so opposed to graduating that last semester. At that point, I didn't care anymore that my crew was leaving me. It was my hangout, and I could always make new friends there. But I somehow (against my will) got out of there, and I'll have to cope with it somehow. I know I'll get over it and find some other good people eventually, so at least I have that to look forward to. I intend to keep calling them up and trying to set up another reunion of sorts. Until then, at least I've got the cyber-universe to live in.

Random Response Time! What? I'm not gonna type an essay for every topic!
Quote from njahnke:
it made me ask myself questions like [...] "if they are this mature now, will they always be ahead of me, all other things equal?"
does it give you solace when you see me or GSGold chatting on IRC at least? :P

PikaTranslation:
Woot! Rock on! ...does that thing have some sort of coded series of words or something that it uses? Because it's very accurate in that it's inconsistency with some words. I've noticed many names were different and such, assuming there aren't like three people with the same avy.
---
Another Random Response: Yeah, yeah, get over it. At least it's chronological.
Quote from njahnke:
you mean they have sex, too?!
we're more similar ... wait, deja vu too strong, must abort post
* JaggerG glances at his sig just to make sure... <JaggerG> Yep, that sounds about right.

School Vs. Job: Well, actually just school....
Yeah, I agree with what's been said. >_>
I frickin' hate the fact that most classes pretty much requires you to spend twice the time advertised to do well in it. After being at school all frickin' day, the last thing I wanna do is work for it. And weekends are supposed to be the end of the week, not the beginning of worry about going back on monday unprepared. When I come home from school, I make it a point to not do anything school related. They tell me homework is to be done on my own time, but it's my time! Who has the right to dictate what I have to do on my own time? Sure, it's not like I have a job or that many other classes to fill it in, and I'm probably overreacting, but that's not the point! IMO a job is probably better for me. My high school counselor even agrees that school definitely isn't the place for me.
After all that time and effort he put into making sure I graduate high school and prepare for college, I finally convinced him that me and school are not very compatible. He seemed pretty intrigued that what he's been telling everyone didn't quite hold true for everyone. I guess it wasn't the fact, because that's kind of a given anyways. It was probably that someone he considered a highly intelligent individual didn't seem to belong to the educational environment that's been set up. Maybe he's just always believed that school and intelligence were directly related. It's entirely possible, though, that it's not school that was the issue for me. I've always seen school as something that I have to go through to be able to make a livable living in the long run, so I figured I was doomed because I wasn't a model student. But maybe there was another problem, and school just happened to have some characteristic that made it unfavorable to me. It could be anything...maybe how much the class relies on homework, or the time I need to be at each class. For all I know, it could be the instructors themselves. I doubt it's just one thing, though.
I do know for sure, though, that I have absolutely no idea where this leaves me as far as careers go. If I am gonna get a bachelors degree and go into the workforce right away, I have no idea what I'll do, nor what I even want to do. Ironically, the class that's supposedly meant to help me figure it out is the class I've been ditching lately for some unconscious reason I've been tossing around trying to decipher. Sucks for me >_<. Sorry I have no real information to offer to help anyone else, but I'd appreciate anyone else's opinion.

"the human brain has not evolved in a significant manner for at least the past few thousand years." damn you nate and your lower casedness! agh! it's contageous!
I don't know if people really are joking when they say that, actually. I believe that we're still just as intelligent as a species. We've just evolved in culture. New necessities bring on new ideas. Machines have been produced for millenia it seems. We're just adapting and making our lives easier and easier as we go on. They're the same intelligence, but random ideas people have are based on creations of the past and education on what's already been done. We're constantly learning from ancestors and building higher and higher off of their foundations. They just didn't have all the education we've had to make us more knowledgable and able to come up with much more modern things. Maybe Newton could have discovered equally important natural laws in our era with what we now know.
I guess people that say that as a joke don't realize the difference between IQ and knowledge.

M2k2 Episode 6: Return of the Jagger: Shut up, I like the title!
It appears a hell of a lot has happened since I've been away. I hope you've all behaved yourselves and such. Anyways, overwhelming to be back and somewhat confused to see that I'm still a Metroid Queen (to be taken literally in this context...I have a feeling someone won't get it without the extra help).
I'd like to take this time to celebrate with Klefmung, as ten days from now, I will have been here for a full year and seven months! Where did the time go, huh? I want it back! :x

Well, that was a fun post. It's taken almost three hours to type it all, but I feel it's almost worth it. Well, there were a few short breaks, but that was a lot of thinking! Yes, I want a cookie or something. I guess it depends on what that something is. Now gimme!
