Anyone up for a chess tournament? Pirate109 is interested, I bet Ark is, and obviously myself.

Last on the previous page sucks.

At the moment I'm curious to see if there's enough participants for a tournament at all. If there is I will create a new topic about it with signups.

I'd give it a shot.

And I never really found Gyorg that hard. Of course, I always go slowly and collect all the HCs I can find; by Great Bay the life bar gets fairly big.

I probably suck, but that doesn't stop me from joining my school's chess events.  I'd go for it, if we get some people.

The only Zelda game I really go around collecting stuff in is Ocarina of Time.  To be honest, finding most Heart Pieces and stuff in Majora's Mask kind of randomly on my first play-through sort of put me off of collecting HC's in that game.  I'm all over Fierce Deity though, you just gotta get it...

I've only played like 10 different people. Ever. And there's no such thing as chess events at my school. Infact, there's not even a single chessboard available. Very poor school. Rolling Eyes

Chess tournament... how would we go about doing this? Regardless, I'm interested. I'll try not to fade back out of existence until then. ;)

Yoshi: In Zelda: Ocarina of Time, do you get the heart piece from the treasure game in the market before or after the Lens of Truth? :P (I'm assuming you've played Ocarina since pretty much everyone younger than Jesus has played through the game)

I suck at chess, but I'll play if you need someone.

I could throw together and manage a bracket. Tricky part is the timezones.
RedHotPawn (creds to Pirate109 for finding it) is pretty easy to use IMO, but Arkarian seems to prefer Yahoo Chess. So I guess I'll have to decide between that, not like that's an obstacle or anything.

It's been a while since I've played that, so I'm not really sure (especially since I've gotten older since then). I would GUESS that I might have done it  the first time before the Lens because I wouldn't know the Lens was coming, let alone that it would see into those chests. That assumes I didn't keep missing it, but IIRC it's not super hard to find that game.

Looking at it, they're both very very different. RedHotPawn is a php script that works mostly like an email-chess game without the email, while Yahoo Chess is actually real time chess in Java. RedHotPawn would make it so we wouldn't have to be on at the same time, but if we weren't games would probably take a month or so to complete.
I would join the chess tournament thing if it ever happens, although it has been several years since I last played and I was never any good, anyway.  >_>

I know for certain that I got the treasure chest game piece of heart before I got the Lens of Truth on my first playthrough of OoT.  I knew about the Lens of Truth, I think (it was in the manual, was it not?), but even if I had had it I doubt it would have occured to me that it would be possible to look into treasure chests with it (since I was nine and had no logical reasoning capabilities).

If Gyorg is the Water Temple boss, then I think I chickened out of that one too...no, wait, I did fight that boss.

Nope, Gyorg is the Great Bay Temple boss.  <_<;

Gyrorg isvery easy. Well, maybe a little tough the first time, but it's a VERY simple strategy. Just watch TSA's MM run for the best strat.

Also, sure, TRH, I'll enter. Doesn't matter to me which we use, though I still prefer Yahoo. It's real time, no reloading needed, no e-mail notifications (which aren't really necessary). Either would work, though, if we're both at the computer at the same time. It would be best to do on a weekend. Americans could play other Americans (and others near their time zones) first, while Europeans would play Europeans (and others near their time zones). Then, if it came down to an American v. European, the American would be playing in the morning, and it would be evening for the European.
I dunno, real time sort of makes me feel more pressured to move... i kinda like how you have as long as you want to think about your next go on RedHotPawn, without fear of the opponent entering "hurry up!" or something. >_>

Really though, i'm not too bothered. Maybe there could be no set type for the tournament, and the two players of each match could decide between themselves which one to use?

From what I'm reading right now, it seems like I might actually be able to win a couple of matches against you guys. >.>

There's only a 1/32 chance of winning that game blind, as I recall...it took me until after getting the Mask of Truth in Majora's Mask, finding out you can talk with gossip stones with it in that game, then getting it in Ocarina of Time, and finding the gossip stone that mentions it ("Glasses are not allowed" or whatever) and finally, doing it.

I'm pretty excited about our tournament of chess chumpions, personally.
i really like the america vs europe tournament idea. the american could just wake up early on a weekend and the european could stay up late and it would be fine. also that way, everyone could watch the final battle.

Oh, duh. That would work great, imo. Chess is chess no matter where it's played.

Meh, I'm not that good, but I can at least beat all my friends (who are really not that good).
Ask TRH about how he whipped me the other day. :(
I haven't played chess in ages, but I'll take a stab at it.

I suppose we've generated enough intrest to simply wait for TRH to propose sign-ups and have everyone else mention that they want to play too.

Now we just have to figure out who gets the probably inevitable byes, unless we want to do something besides single-elimination.
Hm, I won my last few games but a) they were 10+ years ago and b) against not very good players (one of whom subsequently beat me at checkers).  So I'm not sure I'd be up for this or not; it might be too humiliating.  I hardly ever got to play against people who were at all good, so it was hard to learn anything real.  Still, I'll watch for the signup and decide then.  If nothing else I can give someone better something to do for the first round instead of a bye. :P

And RZP, you knew where I meant. :P  I've yet to finish the game I started over three years ago, so it's not that surprising that I don't know the names of anything.  The only name I've been successful at remembering is Goht.  And that the piece Link's various forms play at the Milk Bar is called the Ballad(?) of the Wind Fish but is completely unlike the song it's named for (what gives?).
