Oops. It popped up a window that said The room is too large, and then another popup came and said "Subscript out of range - 9). Then SMILE closed. :|

BTW it's the speedbooster room. ANd it says the room space is -4097 while I've used 2561. Negative?

If you're not adding the new pointer to the level_entries file, SMILE will get confused about the room size. It should still save though. You can't make any rooms more than 50 screens large though. The subscript error can be a couple things; my guess is you still had your hex editor open when you tried to save changes in SMILE. You also might be using an out-of-date version of SMILE.

Alright. I was just confused, since SMILE advised me not to save. Thanks

I can save now but it still says negative, after entering it to level-entries too.

Maybe you have a headered file, I think those have to be adjusted accordingly in the level_entries. Don't ask me how, I never use 'em... headers are shitty.
Would this header affect my room in any negative way?

No, just whether or not SMILE thinks it has free space. You can easily remove headers in SMILE anyway.

Thanks. How do you remove a room's state (It has two currently and I want it to have only one constant state? I believe this was done in Cliffhanger.

Edit: It's a wrecked ship room btw. I ONLY want the "boss" state. Would it involve something in State Properties?

Uhm, change the boss state to "events" and make it something like "morph ball acquired" so that it's always on. That should usually work like that.

Hi, I'm having trouble with my backgrounds....i recently changed the door going into the landing site to not having a door there at all and when ever I enter the landing site from that entrance the BG goes all weird!

Any ideas......?

Welcome to the scrolling sky error. There is no real fix. All you can do so the BG doesnt alter itself like that is make it so the sky doesn't scroll. Or don't alter the doors in the landing site at all.

There's junk in there about it, however, thats for a NEW room, whereas for you its just the landing site, so you would just have to do this part: Change the layer1_2 pointer to 91ce, the BG_data to 0000 and the FX2 to 0000.

Theoretically anyway. Make a backup in case anything goes wrong.
Thanks for that but unfortunately it didnt work :(

Instead it changed it into some scrolling green blurp which was strange  Shocked

I'll footer about with it (with obviously a backup just in case) and see what happens :)

try adding 1010 in the layer 2 scroll box and remove the bg pointer the rooms fx2 and change the layer 1_2 to 91D3
then you only have the two top screens to work with for a bg tho.
Okay I am superly pissed. Purple screen of death?

It's the pink Brinstar big room btw. It tested fine a few minutes ago. Then all I did was fix the water level in this room, add water and change a few enemies in the blue brinstar rooms where you get morphball and missiles.

Enter the room, and BAM purple.

That didn't work either :( ......and now I have more problems :( (its not my day :P )

The door leading out into the landing site from the left is the same for the door in the opposite side of the room (the door where u have to bomb the wall to get access to) I know the problem is in the door editor where "Door $00" is slelected when it should be "Door $01" however it isn't letting me save it as this..... :(

Any solutions??

Also in Ceres and Zebes escape is there any way to take the music that has the "siren" into another room??

you can  just select a door $01 from a different room and paste it in that should work and there are multiple states for the sky scrolling error so you have to kill it in all of the states.

select the full working door from any room and put it in the other room where you want it(its pretty simple actually).

Purple screen is caused by invalid enemy data. Check everything enemy-related.

I was just wondering how to make the FX1 have explosions on the screen like it has at escape sequences?

Also how would I add lava/water to a room I don't quite understand how to go about it :S

Can I import a GFX file into another room (say I wanted the pipe tiles etc from Tourian into the landing site)

How would I be able to add/change events??

and how would I add more space to a room?? ...and if so how??

Look at how it's done in-game in the escape states of the rooms. That should give you an idea. Pretty sure it's FX2 stuff or something anyway.

Same thing, look at how the FX1 is set up in a room. Check BT's SMILE FAQ for more info (linked to on the first or second page of this thread).

GFX editing isn't quite -that- simple. You'd have to export both tilesheets, copy the tiles you want over to free space on the other using TLP, and import it back in, then use SMILE's graphics editor to make the new 16x16 tiles out of 8x8s.

Event editing is easy and you should just check in SMILE to see what you can do with it; it's self-explanitory. Making new events requires adding information to room headers in a hex editor.

That's discussed just a few posts earlier. I just typed up a guide a page or two ago.

As a rule, most questions about basic SM hacking have probably been answered, thus it's considered good form to look for an answer on your own before asking questions that have been answered several times already elsewhere in this thread or on the forum.

I have ran into some more trouble :P and i can't seem to find anything been said about this previously :(

What I have done is I've moved Samus's Ship a tad higher in the landing site room only when I load my game from there im stuck in the ground....so I went into Area Load Points and changed the scoll Y and it's fine now other than whenever I load the game some weird green tiles are scrolling the BG...yet again :(
