You don't need to mess with the byte itself to change the type of door transition. There's a spot to select the direction, and clicking on the picture switches between closing door and no closing door transitions.

I tried this, and it works, but whenever i enter the door, my hack locks up..

Sure you're using the right door#? It may also be a problem with the room you're entering instead of a problem with the door.
I dont think it would be a problem with the door number. i am using room 9552 and i'm trying to get the bottom door to go to the right into room 95ff. something i'm noticing is that the door transition takes longer than normal.(transition before lockup)

And say I want to move a door to another room. Do I have to scrap a door in one room and clone a door in the other room I want it to be (I can re-clarify if need be).
You need to use a hex editor to add doors to a room. I haven't done it yet, but BT wrote up how to do it around here somewhere...
The CT Knights are enemies that SMILE doesn't recognize. Some simply haven't been input into it (such as some components of bosses in previous versions), but a roomful of them likely means either a messed up pointer or you're trying to use a PAL ROM.

You can't because they never appear that way ingame. Actually you can but you need to do something beyond SMILE.

Repalettation is how you can change the colors. You probably need to find the color offset of that door and change it.

Change the first three yellow-ish colors to the colors you want PB doors to be. It might affect some other insignificant color stuff too, not sure. It might not show in SMILE but it will in-game. You'll have to do that for each tileset you want to do the doors for. Of course you could make them all different colors too. Please don't be ugly about it though.

The second set of three colors down is super missile doors, the third is red missile doors, and the fourth is regular doors, by the way.

Don't the PB gates normally look gray, though? I would guess they don't use the same pallet as PB doors, or else the wrong colors in it.
There' are several things that use the same colors as a PB door, like energy tanks, the Hi Jump Boots, and PB pickups.
Yeah, I was hoping for a solution that wasn't just messing with palettes.  There's something similar looking in the tile set so if I do alter it that's what I'm going for.  I doubt that the gate uses the same set as the doors do (they are initially a sort of dark blue I think), but I'll find it.  Everyone probably knows what a pb gate looks like anyways so there really isn't an issue.

Dude. A gate made of peanut butter. This sounds like a job for photoshop. Or an ambitious sculptor.

It's a long shot, I know, but is there any way barring drastic coding that I could make an area map more that 29 tiles high?

I thought the limit was 50 tiles (unless the limits are 10x5, and perfect square limit is 7x7). I'm thinking about a 5x10 1 waterfall room in Maridia, yet I don't know whether it's possible to change the waterfall color (I'm going to have to tweak and make new tilesets). And I want to do a Mario Kart Rainbow Road setting (multi-color Layer 1 blocks and starry Later 2 background that I'll have to make myself), and should I make new tiles for each color (like room for a red, another for blue, etc.)?

NTSC only. PAL will look like garbage and show Chrono Trigger Knights all over the place.
