...I fondly remember drawing SM maps 10 years ago during class, so in a sense its very interesting for me, moreso than a casual interest.

Off topic.

laugh new I just had to comment.  I made maps of Sonic the Hedgehog back in the day!...  This was more than 10 years ago...  in class.  :P  LOL

If I'm going to say anything On topic I guess it would be...

Given what Acheron86 (sorry if misspelled that) is planning to do with his hack...  Do you think you'll have some of your own music in Cliffhanger?  That is; once and if you learn more about it?

I know you answered this question before...  But I was curious if your answer has now changed. :-?

I'm sure you might not if it's too time consuming.

I'm impressed. When can you show preview rooms? I saw your statue in the Photo topic. It's a nice touch.

Question regarding these videos:
This is not a suitless hack, is it? I'm terrible at those.

It will be suitless.. Although I'm debating whether or not to give a suit for MB, 'cause I notice with suitless hacks you tend to be shy of enough energy to survive MB's finishing beam, and that tends to throw everyone off, especially if their only savestates are during the fight.

I'm not so sure i'll like this one.  (Suitless was fine for redesign, but got old quick)

Wow, you tell me Impossible is harder, but I might see your point on the heat rooms, given that there's not so many!

The heat runs are organized and segmented, it's not like you'll be exploring loads of rooms while getting burned. I do these things in moderation.

I like suitless because it makes enemies harder in a way, when you've got most everything, you're not likely to give a shit running through a room bumping into small fry enemies, I want there to be a strong sense of caution at all times. Health is something you want to keep at a comfort zone level.

What about the case of the water segments?

There are a few of them, but they aren't huge areas.

I don't mind suitless when you know it's just a short run to a safe zone, or a water area with a goal in sight.
It bothers me when I have to explore and traverse areas like these with no sense of when it will end and how far off path I've gone. So I omitted these gripes in Cliffhanger.

But being able to ignore smallfries and fly through rooms is good, because lazy people don't want to have to keep cautious constantly grin new Especially if they have to backtrack through somewhat dangerous rooms anyway. This is why difficulty can work with linear hacks, but unless measures are taken to reduce constant pressure, frustration mounts if difficulty and nonlinearity rise in tandem, because you may just make a decent gain in getting through a hard room and then boom, you find you needed an item that's back where you came from. And most fullhacks do tend to be at least somewhat nonlinear - although its perfectly possible to make a linear fullhack.

So cool. Man, I really hope you do a second hack after Cliffhanger. Maybe with the Aegis tileset. *hint hint*
DMantra is definitely the reincarnation of the SFI guy (oh wait, he isn't dead yet), only with stuff that looks less awkward but just as - if not moreso - unique.

I don't remember much from SFI, I remember it being fun. I really go out of my way to try and make things practical and not awkward. A platform doesn't just float, it's connected to something, etc etc. I'm having fun with the wrecked ship because you can make all sorts of practical star ship rooms. Like storage bays full of boxes and cranes that carry them, etc. I'll post some more pictures later, just wanted to let everyone know that it's still going strong. I can cram alot of work into it on weekends.

Thanks, but I'm done after this hack.

Yessssssssssss. 4 pints of guiness = slur.

The reason being is time restraints. Adulthood sort of slapped me in the face this year. Work issues, gf issues, housing issues, money issues. Don't know why I'm ranting off topic.. Super Metroid! Back on topic.
I'd have had this hack done by now if I weren't so anal about aesthetics. I'm hoping this hack will answer the prayers of any SM fan that wants a detailed hack, rather than a fun run or whatever.
Aiming for a summer release, or just holding off releasing it till Aegis cools down after it's released, as Cardweaver said some weeks ago, wouldn't want this to be overshadowed by Aegis, which is looking to be one of the greatest on the list yet.

I actually wish I had taken some more time with mine, but that would've meant delaying it until after the Aegis cooldown, and depending on whether or not you posted Cliffhanger up first, after the cliffhanger cooldown. But, I'm glad I was able to sneak it in before the big guys came to play.

I love your artistic use of tiles to make statues; so much so that I even made one for Soup. Since you can't play it (check your PMs...), just look at room 7B698 in SMILE.
. . .
Those pics make me want to play Cliffhanger even more!  I love your attention to detail, and your hack will be incrediable!  The art you create is something no other hacks have yet seen!  Its a shame you will not be making other hacks...
Wow this looks... way too hard for me. I'd try the "roped" version, though 8-)

Breathe in the Future, Breathe out the Past
The third and final promotional video for Cliffhanger is done. Will post here and on the first post.
I decided to just play through some rooms to give a feel for the design.

I'm more psyched than ever! A bit of chozo statue abuse and I love the Draygon background stuff.

That looks seriously incredible. The song you put with it is also pretty fitting, and it definitely sounded neat.

I'll admit there is a bit of chozo statue abuse but I wanted eastern chozodia to actually have a lively temple.
As for all the water stuff, still not certain I'll have grav in this hack, but given all the current banter on suitless hacks, I've bit the bullet and added Varia. So gravity may follow. Thanks for watching!
