I definitely never came across Kraid or SS. On my first playthrough I fought both Draygon and Bomb Torizo, in addition to Phantoon and Ridley. The first two take forever.
Hi, am I under developed for the battle of the Chozo of Gold??:
This is everything I have:
7 E-Tanks 1 Reserve 70 Missiles 20 Super Missiles (25 if you count the pick up on the way there) 10 Power Bombs Grapple Spazer Beam Varia Suit Morph Ball Bomb Speed Booster
The only boss I've defeated was Phantoon, then after that found my way to the Golden Chozo. The cheesing strat need not apply....
That one had me confused as well. Even though I did/can defeat him... :-/
While attacking him he seems to
refill his own health / (i.e.) turn back to his 'Gold' color, even if you get him down to a dark grayish color -sometimes. I thought he could only be attacked when he wasn't standing in the bubbles... But the "cheesing" or just standing there and spamming super missiles seems to be what does the trick.
Then again, I'm not really sure (I don't understand) what the 'trick' is.
Just make sure you
abuse the refill station.
And that's probably what makes this 'different' fight more 'fair'.
You do a short little mockball at the start before any of the things come down. You don't need a lot of speed, it just has to be faster than your normal ball rolling and it should work.
I think you will be stuck if you make it through one but not all, so do be careful.
Also, as for getting everything, FP got 101% and said he had 13 Etanks, which might've been a typo and he really had 14, but when I play and collect everything I remember playing I always end up with 99%... Some of the stuff is so out of the way even I can't remember it.
I think the only interesting TAS run would be a max%, as any% or low% would skip pretty much all the really interesting parts of the game and probably be around :15. Despite how retarded and out of the way some of the items are, I can pull off getting all the items I can remember (Ending up with a 99%, so off by a couple) in sub :55 unassisted, and I have a feeling a max% would be a fair sight quicker than the original.
As far as speed, you can actually go faster in this than you could in the original. A good route will eliminate most of the slow floating, conservation of momentum when speedjumping could be insane with TAS precision, and boostball in 100% will take care of any vertical sections that a single spinjump cannot reach. It's just knowing how to manipulate the physics rather than assuming "It's random whenever I jump up at normal speed".
Edit: Cardweaver asked about a speedrun route, and while I don't take the best route and go the long way sometimes, as well as nearly get myself stuck and generally do poorly at speed tricks, here's a movie of me collecting 101% in 0:59 unassisted. (5 rerecords were used to fix desynchs, as I used SNES9x 1.51 thinking it wouldn't desynch if I didn't use savestates...)
Naturally, this shows the whole game so you probably won't want to download it unless you've beat the hack already.
