Single Segment Corruption Speedrun

Hey I'm new to the forums but not new to the game, im thinking of running an any% of corruption. So far my best time was 3:21 on normal. According to sda nobody has done a run other then paraxade's 2:09 on normal. I may do a hypermode speedrun since im nowhere near beating paraxade's time xD The hypermode run would consist of getting the energy tanks on the way and skipping hazard shield, leaving me with about 5-6tanks on phaaze.

So far I'm leaning towards either a hypermode any% or a veteran low%. Help me decide and I'll see what I can do with the new recording device im trying to order.

Thanks in advance for your help would be great to hear from some other fans of the series, the forums seems awful dead these days in this part.

I'm sure you'll love normal low%, it's totally a speedrunnable category, right? /sarcasm

The best known time single segment is me for normal any%, which is 2:35 in-game time. However, it uses an outdated route (so does parax's segmented run), as an optimal any% run would skip bryyo besides grapple swing, and skip spider ball and do the nova beam wall crawl... but have fun with those. ~~not to mention, my 2:35 time is absolute crap~~

(there are reasons why nobody does serious speedruns of mp3, because it's a crappy game to run; parax himself said he didn't have fun doing the segmented run)

What about say a non-OOB run? Spider ball skip requires heavy use of secret worlds and in my opinion jumping around in aether isnt exactly a fun run to watch.

it is faster so you need to use them.

you might get away with not using OoB if you do it SS since the OoBs are quite late and they can be bad run killers.

also, parax had around 3:13 22% hypermode way back before he finished his segmented run so that's a goal in case you run hypermode.

a no-OoB run is just pretty dumb. "fun run to watch" doesn't mean "it's not faster so I can not do this trick". Plus, a lot of people actually like watching OoB... though OoB in mp3 would just be dumb since elysia is terrible. It's just that OoB isn't significantly game-changing like OoB in link to the past and stuff; it's not like you're skipping the entire game, so no-OoB categories are just dumb for the prime games unless you find a way to OoB to the final boss instantly <_<

A good single-segment run would include spider ball skip (not necessarily bryyo skip since that's just too absurdly hard to doo in SS). The second wallcrawl is definitely doable in SS (I have it down semi-consistently), and according to parax, the first one isn't too bad either. Plus, skipping spider itself saves like 4-5 minutes, and then the OoB trick with it to get nova beam to skip the pirate fight saves another 2-3 minutes.

Yeah, you're gonna want to do that if you want to do super serious attempts. At minimum, you should beat my time if you want to get serious, since my time is pretty bad lol.

EDIT: Also I noticed you said "im nowhere near beating paraxade's time xD". Parax's time is SEGMENTED, so using the same route, you should expect to have a noticeably slower time. With the new route changes, it's probably viable to beat it single-segment, though will probably be very freaking difficult too.

I'll have to look into it, it seems do-able for a college student with abit of time on his hands. I'm still working on getting roll-ssj downpat in certain areas. This run will only seriously pickup around new years when I get my new computer/recording device in. For now I'm still working on getting the basic techniques nailed and a solid route planned. I should mention that I only began playing this game seriously enough to consider attempting to speedrun it about 2weeks ago.

As for OoB I'll start practicing them the next time I hit that spot in a playthru until I can hit them consistently enough to try and throw them into a SS. As Uchiha implied I'd hate to reach 80% through an amazing single segment only to waste 3mins trying to enter a SW, although if a single segment was that easy we wouldn't be discussing it aha.

i speedran it, but the PAL version pretty much killed the fun.

If you want a good reference for single-segment strats, you can watch my 100% speed run:

Many of the strats in the 100% speed run are the same as in any%, due to mp3 being so linear (stupid elysia). Parax's segmented run is a better reference, but it's probably a good idea to watch through both, since some of his strats are probably not a good idea to use in single-segment <_<

Probably hasn't touched MP3 in a while, judging from that. Then again, assuming he's serious about this (why?), he said he'll pick it back up around new years which is in a few days.

On a related note, I will be starting to do Corruption Runs soon, so I'll keep this thread updated if people are interested.

Good luck with ~~putting up with the pain~~ teh urns. Go beat my times so I feel less bad that those bad runs are "WR" (cuz omg wr is all that matters JAELGUWEA)
