I plan on doing a SS 22% Hyper run. I have most of the game down - did a segmented practice run and just finished a SS test run with a time of 3:30 with 7 deaths:

-Meta Ridley (wtf)
-Pirates after east/west generators
-Pirate while trying to use the X-ray panel on the pirate defense systems
-Two deaths on Pirate Commander
-One death on Dark Samus

In the run I'd like to have as few deaths as possible, though I might accept one when I get to Phaaze considering how late in the run that is... though of course avoiding that would be nice.

Test run also had many mistakes. I fell down at one point on Norion and lost about a minute trying to BSJ back up, maybe a bit less than a minute on the Reptilicus ghetto, and like 5 minutes on Omega Ridley waiting for refills (it is possible to kill him without any for those who don't know). Mogenar and Helios went perfectly, though. I also used save stations to replenish my health (didn't save though).

Any feedback, advice, etc. is welcome and I plan on starting attempts as soon as I get a working DVD recorder. :)

Oh, and also, I asked this in the SBing topic a while ago and IIRC it was never answered, so: is SW3 allowed in a run?

Thread title:
it's allowed for metroid 2002. still not quite sure about it for sda (assuming you want to submit there with a reasonably real-sounding "real name"). give me a little more time.

what happens if it's accepted for metroid 2002 and not sda is that it goes on archive but i can't help with hosting much beyond that. however to speed up download of the normal mp4 i can help seed a torrent.
Yeah, I plan on submitting.

Exchanged my DVD recorder and the new one isn't defective, so I can start as soon as I get a ruling on SW3.
let's keep it simple and not use it if for no other reason than it technically being a secret world. easier to ban all secret worlds than explain to people what is allowed and what's not.
it's a really horrible borderline case but I think the fact that you don't fall when you're above the room by definition means that you've left the level boundaries. :|

I'd like to see it used, but I think a literal interpretation of the rule disallows it.

I somehow doubt that, even though it's very minor compared to other Secret Worlds, it would work for SDA's standards based on the little information I know about the rules.

And besides, I know time is everything for us speedrunners, but it's only a 20-30 second thing or so right?
Less than that, I'd say it's 10 seconds at most. It'd look really cool in a run though.
I can't argue with that.

Edit: And your test run was a 3:30 22% Hypermode run, correct? Wouldn't that make it the current Hypermode record?

sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I've seen the video already -- I just meant that it's such a minor infraction I felt it would be nice if it could be used in a run. The no out-of-bounds rule exists to stop people skipping huge sections of games rather than punishing short tricks like this, but inevitably everything ends up being tarred with the same brush.

I'm in a strange position, running SDA and also being a secret world dabbler, so I frequently find myself having to argue both for and against these things at the same time.
Does it really matter?  I probably speak for a lot of people here who think your (DJ) MP2 SW'd 1:55 run was one of the best home-made game videos they've ever watched.  (and if they haven't, they should).

You guys probably have a more vested interest in the outcome of this, but to me, the casual viewer-and fan- of the cool videos that you guys have made over the years, I can't see what difference it makes.

Keep it up!

I'll happily mirror the run Paraxade, whether you use SW's or not, so you'll have an extra d/l source from me. :)

Looking forward to the run.

As am I.
>_<

Started another attempt last night and I managed to get to Omega Ridley without any deaths (not even Pirate Commander)... then during the second flyby for some reason SA didn't work and I got hit a bunch and died.

Would've been interesting if I'd managed to finish it with that attempt since at that point the number of failed attempts is still under 30 and I've only been trying for three days, plus before this my best run only got to Security Drone. :P Still frustrating either way. :\

Also, at the first disc swap (right after Ghor), I had 1 hour 45 minutes of video recorded on the DVD, which means at that point I was 12 minutes ahead of my test run in real time. :P In game time I imagine that's somewhere around 5 minutes. I estimate my final time will be around 3:10-3:15.

I might as well finish this file and see what time I get, considering I've already gotten so far on it...
wow, awesome. go for it.
Finished that file, final time is 3:18.

Good job. =D>
Dang, nice work man. Nice work! 8-)
Congrats.  Can't wait to see it.
You all realize that that wasn't the run, that was just my run ending really late so I decide to finish it to see what time I get, right? I didn't record anything after dying on Omega.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
i see.

so, is sub 3 hours possible for that run?
Hypermode is probably around 10-15 minutes slower than Normal since enemies have more health, plus then you only have one tank so you either can't enter hypermode as often or you need to be really good with pickups. I don't think sub-3 hours for low% hyper will happen without new tricks.

Wait: Hyper mode is hardest difficult setting & 22% lowest-% items? Right?

This is only low-% hard mode SS run ever metroid game history, congrats Wink . I don,t have this game yet, that is why i ask. Sound like pretty nice. It sounds even easy, because this run took only couple days for you. Is game much easier than other Primes?

Nobody never can completed hard low-% SS on Prime and Echoes low-% hard mode challenge is impossible with single segment IMO.

IMO, low percent is so so, and hypermode is really hard. I don't know how Paraxade can put the two together. He is a true genuis.

Heh and don,t forget mention he did that with single segment. Without save & without dying. Over three hours marathon without dying.
