I have seen people in movies doing all sorts of weird stuff with the speed booster. What Id like to know is how to use the shinespark most effectivly. How to keep it the longest. Any tips or tricks. What makes it ware off anything I can use to use this technique better.
Thread title:

It goes away:
-After using it up (obviously)
-When you get hit
-If you let too much time pass
-If, when using it in a space jump, you turn back

It can be kept:
-Either normally standing or as a ball
-Only if you use it with an upwards slope in front of you

Those are the only things I can think of... :P
There's not much you can do to keep the charge longer, unless there's a slope right in front of you. If you're having trouble keeping a shine to get somewhere, chances are you're boosting in the wrong place for it. Is there anyplace specific we could help you with?
One example would be in brinstar before that hall you take to the elevator to norfair wher ther is a block with the boost symbol on it thats only high enough for a ball.
Another would be that super missle in brinstar that you have to have to go through a secret passag to get to in the first vertical shaft.
Also while im thinking about it (off topic) Im on my 4th playthrough and for somereason cant for the life of me remember where to get the screw attack.

To use the Shinespark as a ball, you need the HiJump to enable the Spring Ball.

The screw attack... well, look around in the threads posted here. :P One of them has an image or a map or something that shows where to get it early.
Yeah I know I need the highjump to use the shinspark as a ball but I on the block near the norfair elevator I cant jump because it is on the ground.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)

Note the pause in the room with the Rippers due to hitting down on the Dpad to re-charge the ball spark.
Or even better:

Two for one!

Seems MetalRidley and Bulletta took the keystrokes right out of my keyboard... :P

Thieves! And BTW, if you have the shinespark and are trying to get the Screw attack, go to Ridley, go up the elevator, and right. bomb the floor and speed boost all the way left. You can figure it out from there.
This isn't hidden. You're reading it right now, aren't you?
BTW, don't click this link, it's not actually a link.

Nice try, but for those using the other board layouts (SubSilver and SubRed) it won't work :P

Man, it took me SO long to get that satisfactorily! And it's still almost visible in SmartDark. But it's still most commonly used. And if you did in fact read it, it just proves my point.
Well, whatever. I was just bored is all.
i tell you guys i strongly recommend u sequence break for that Super Missile and i sequence break for Hi-Jump too ( same way as you do Ridley before Kraid ) so i can actually get Super Missile before even going for Norfair 2 ( when u get to Ridley normally ) i enter Ridley with 8 supers ( 1 brinstar, 1 crateria, 2 norfair ) which is the maximum possible before Ridley. I get the 3 super tanks there ( 14 supers now ) for MB which is great. Then i know the remaining tanks are all in Chozodia.

You really don't need more than 6 SM. 4 is enough for Kraid (Hell 3 is), and with Ridley, if you really want to speed through 8 would be good, but I think the time taken to get those 8 is longer than using 4 SM and reg. missiles.

Robo Ridley only needs six too.

Of course, this all changes when you enter Hard Mode. Good job.

I'd rather do Kraid before Norfair, skip the zipline, then have 8 when facing Ridley (because I do 15% normal speed runs). I end up with Hi-jump, 99 health, speed boost, and no SA. I am confident that this is the fastest.
I still cannot skip that zip-line! I just cant to HBJ!

It's tough as a mother fucker. Yeah, I still have trouble with it. If I get it within the first few tries, I'll take it. Sucks for my speed run, but whenever I get it the first time I mess up a few screens later.
The one problem i have with shinesparks is jumping then shinesparking to the left or right are there any tips people can give me?

whenever i just tap a i shinespark straight up but if i jump i cant shinespark to the right =(

Ready and willing.
Just hold the direction you want to go while your "charging" before the spark.

He means spin jumping and then sparking right. You spin jump, then hit up, down, or shoot, and spark away.
Ja.  Once you're charged up on that ledge, hold right, push jump nice and hard, thumb over to fire for a sec, then (still holding right) tap jump again, and away she goes.

I have to use down instead of up or fire, otherwise I'll screw up bad.
