Okay, this topic will most likely be really really short, but I don't care, I finally discovered something you haven't.

Anyways, I just came back to this game again and it took a couple of days to finally get the secret message (shinespark method) again. I got the message, then went around, then decided to do the alternate method. After like over 100 missiles, I finally hit it dead on and make my way through, feeling proud again. I stepped onto the nav pad, then thought to myself, what's the point? I already got the message, there's nothing more to it.

I was wrong. There were...two more lines, but you still haven't seen them as far as I've read (and I did read quite a lot, I assure you). I won't bother telling you what the...two and a half extra lines are again (already mentioned on IRC), because basically I don't have a vid of it and what's the point of ruining the surprise if you're gonna confirm it anyway? So there's...probably my first factual contribution, although it saved no more time than anything else I've mentioned before nor does it suggest a sequence break (although shot down) like another I mentioned. Go me.

...That is all.
Thread title:
but you don't have to do the alternate method, right? all it is is selecting "no" instead of "yes" when adam asks if you understand your mission objective?

Basically you go through the message, then say you understand or whatever, then step on it a second time and say don't confirm the objective. At least that's what it should be, I don't know if it is :P But I don't see any reason why you'd have to do two methods to get it.
I think I remember mentioning this on IRC about a year or two ago. :P

well that's beside the point. :P
Can someone post the additional two lines in spoiler tags or something? I kind of fail at Shinesparking.

Well there's always the alternate method. :P

And I won't because...I forget exactly what they are and I don't have a save near there at the moment. The closest one is my 1% kinda fastish attempt that's saved at AQA entrance.

Strange guy: Samus, that plan I mentioned...
Computer: Samus, return to the correct route immediately
Strange guy: ......
Wow. That still doesn't change anything much. Still the same message. well sort of. not really but the point is adam still won't let samus know about the galactic federation plans.
LOL. The game is basically telling you, "Bad Samus! Stop trying to sequence break and stay in the rigid, unbreakable sequence we set for you!"

sounds more like the man in the shadows wants to tell you because he admires you for your mad skizzills, but the machine won't have it.

That's just typical Metroid Fusion for you. Any sort of sequence breaking is considered a crime by the game.
Bob says no.
Why did you post that? It makes no sense at all.
soaking through
Bob = 0%
0% = sequence break
0% = impossible on a game boy?

Someone should try pausing the game to get the down/up combo down to one frame. It'd take crazy awesome timing, but might work.
why don't you?
I don't think I'm good enough to.
no one else does either ... so you're on equal ground.
Curse you nate! Now you've inspired me to try it. There goes the rest of the day. Now I have to start a new 1/0% game.

lol on/off game

That almost sounded like "nobody else thinks you can either, so you're on equal ground" :P

And Bob isn't the sequence break. It's the missile tank. So yes, it makes perfect sense to say that Bob doesn't want you sequence breaking.
I should try taking apart the gameboy and hitting down and up in two frames. Although, once I get it in two frames I would have to make everything else pixel perfect. Grrr...
Well, I tried it, and while I don't have the mad skills or the patience to perfect all the jumping, I think the pause thing will work for the up/down in 1 frame. The game pauses instantly when you hit start, so the timing is actually pretty easy. If you hold up and unpause, it doesn't work, so you have to press up as soon as you unpause. You can't use an original GBA because you have to be able to hit the direction and start at (nearly) the same time.

I also thought of another potential method: Gamecube Stick Rape. If you set the stick halfway to down, you can hit down to squat, then hit leftto start moving, and (hopefully) the stick will think that you hit up and stand up. This may also make the up/left combo easier. I have yet to test this, however.
