Hadn't thought of ZM when I said that. Although I know some attacked ZM for having those kinds of Sequence Breaks, that's probably one of the best case scenarios I can see for making them work in Other M in order to give us the best of both worlds. (And even then, we still found out a few tricks of our own, like skipping the Acid Worm, so I wouldn't rule making our own discoveries that easily.)

Would also be cool if, for instance, you bypass the standard way of seeing a cutscene, come back to that location later from a different direction, and get an entirely different version of the same event. Doubtful that this would happen, but it would be a huge plus on the developer's part to accommodate for things like that in an open ended game such as the classic Metroids.

What I personally never liked about the MZM sequence breaks is how "guided" they were. It's like they give you the "intended" route and the "secret" route and expect you to choose either one or the other with very few instances of overlapping. Think about it, if you choose to skip Kraid and proceed to Norfair, you have to beat that whole area before you can go back to other parts of the game. In other words, there's just not enough forks in the road in the "secret" path, and you're limited to a few basic routes.

I like the kind of sequence breaking they have in Super Metroid because you can freely go back and forth between areas without too many annoying pit blocks and automatic sequences to get in your way. Unfortunately, that probably won't be the case in Other M due to its supposed heavy emphasis on plot, but it would be really nice if they brought that back.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
I think it's safe to assume that sequence breaking will either be nonexistant or very controlled. They can simply regulate story elements to safe, unskipable areas.

What do you mean when you say that if you skip Kraid go to Ridley first that you have to beat the whole area ?

Obviously a big one from your list that is a key element is the open exploration. It's kind of hard to do that if the story is going to be as important as they say, but if they can pull this off somehow a lot of fans will be pleased I'll bet.

I think it is possible to have alot of story and be non-linear at the same time. I can't explain exactly how, I just have to trust in the genius of the amazingly talented people who are creating this game.  Perhaps the cut scenes will reveal info in a way that's clear enough to relay info, yet vague enough to account for what may or may not have happened earlier.  Kinda like the way in ZM when the chozo ghost gives you varia even though you skipped it earlier. Actually ZM is designed flawlessly for things like that - adding secret alternative paths for those who skipped screw attack or power bombs.  Maybe they can do that kind of clever accomodation, only this time with elements of the story instead.  So basically the same story would end up being told, but perhaps in a slightly different order depending on how badly you fuck up the sequence. When I marvel at how nothing was overlooked in ZM despite the many different sequences you could take, I know it's possible.

There's a Chozo ghost in ZM?
The one you get your suit back from.
OH! That's what you meant.
