My 2:32 Test Run
Now on archive.org
Thread title:
Nice segment 4. Judging from it, it takes you 53 seconds to get to the "Ghor breaks wall" part. Watching your segment 3 back, it takes you 48 seconds to get to that part, and that includes shooting the 4 locks on the entrance door, picking up the grapple lasso, scanning the elevator and grapple-pulling a door (which you don't have to redo in seg.4). So I'm pretty sure using the ship to get back to the 1st airdock after segment 3 would be faster.

Ridley fight could be improved too, (you ended around 8500 ft, I know I did with around 10100 ft, which is about 20s faster) I'm being picky, but that's for future runners :P Overall a very good segment. Also, you seem to have good memorization of rooms. I think that's my weakest point, I always turn on the wrong side, bump into walls and stuff.
kyupi+yakisoba=win
Using the other air dock never even crossed my mind, good thinking. You saved about 20 seconds over my time against ridley. That is crazy, i knew my fight wasn't very good but not that bad.

Edit: my fight actually ended closer to 9100ft.
Besides what zell99 already said, the Ridley fight goes much faster with well-timed charge shots, abd I'm pretty sure that for doors that open immediately, it's faster to unmorph, shoot them, and morph than rolling all the way to the door and laying a bomb.
Every Bit Counts
In segment 4, you could have got in your ship and flew to where you landed th first time. Then you can go to the ghor smashes wall. I pretty certian that this saves a little amound of time because you must go up and around that big room otherwise. btw, great speed run.
after playing the game, if we really want a lower time, we're gonna have to do the home menu trick, and edit it out after capturing.....  there are too many doors not just in this run, but even when I'm playing, that take forever to load, eating up 10-15 seconds sometimes.  great run, manu obvious little improvments in general, but very quick. goodwork
If you don't mind, craztad, I'll post my run's progress here. I just landed on Pirate Homeworld in 1:57. Let's hope PH is short enough so that I can get sub-3 :P
kyupi+yakisoba=win
No problem zell99, actually if you post all of your save times, I will put it all up in my first post so we can keep a running record of the fastest times to certain points in the game for an any% run. Anybody with faster saves please post or pm me and i will try to keep the first post updated every other day. By the way a 22 min save on bryyo is very possible because i was only about 9 seconds away with 10 seconds of errors on ridley alone.
Every Bit Counts
Sub-3 hours might be possible. I got 4:10 (beating my 5:40 on my first try) with out even trying. I was slower then craztad, so I think lowering the time by more than 1 hour and 10 minutes is very possible. A lot of speed tricks were discovered after I did my 4:10. I am so convinced that I could get sub-4 without really trying. Also, this was also on veteran mode, so it should be eaiser on normal (to defeat bosses and such).

segment 5, 6, and 7 are up now. Youtube took forever to process these. on to the ship upgrade.
Every Bit Counts
In seg 5, why did you do a 2bsj in grand court? You can use a bsj or a spring-bsj to get up that. Also, somebody already said this, you can pull the statue while waiting for Gateway to load. This way, you don't need to do it on the way back.
Segment 5  @1:50  you can ghetto jump at the end of the platform and hit your head on the top platform.  terminal fall and as you guessed, you're up top, skipping the maze!

Great Run so far!!
You lost a ton of time in seg 5 from getting the map before Grapple Swing. You lose time from having to do the spring roll jump, which takes longer than swinging across the pit, and also need to do the morph ball tunnel, which you don't if you have Grapple Swing (or if you do what Sigfried said and terminal fall into the pit, but I'm sure grapple swing across the pit is at least a couple seconds faster).
Just watched 5-7

Segment 5: Besides what others have alreaddy pointed out, wouldn't it be faster to skip grapple lasso until returning for ship missiles, as the only place it's used is corrupted pool, which can also be passed with a bsjonly slightly slower, and solving the Gateway puzzle puts you by the exit to the room, causing the need for two additional crossings of the room.  Also, what was the point of grabbing the missiles in the room before grapple swing?  Missiles aren't really that badly needed, and there are several tanks throughou the game right in your way.  Same thing with the etank in Gateway.  Considering the abundance of etanks that only take a couple seconds to get and the relative lack of need for etanks on normal, why grab one of the longer ones?

segment 6: Not much to say, as this segment was very nicely played.  However, not doing siegfriedxxx's damage boost in that one room will definitely cost a good bit of time on the return trip to fire Bryyo.

segment 7: I really liked the speedy way of rolling through the magma you used in the first room.  Rundus battle could have been a bot better, but no real major problems.  Keep up the good work!
Not much to add to whats already been said. In segment 5, skipping the Missile and Etank would be good timesavers. Grapple swing first also, which could potentially lead to a 28 save IMO. In seg. 6, the damage boost is definitely a must to save major time on the 2nd trip. But all that has already been mentionned.

EDIT: Seg. 6, the room before the save (full of gel) it would be faster to space jump in the gel instead of morphball unmorph like you did, that way you only have to do 1 jump from the gel to the platform on the other side.
Gandrayda is a bitch. Stop jumping all over the fucking place so that I can screw your ass! Evil or Very Mad

Any progress on your run, craztad?
kyupi+yakisoba=win
Yes, i am on my way to the second generator on bryyo.I am having a great difficulty with getting the space pirates to help me super ghetto jump off the ice. i have yet to actually complete it with the pirates. I got the creatures that were in there the first time to give me the boost but all the space pirates want to do is sit and shoot at me no matter how much i beg them to dash at me with their swords. I think i am going to be very close to 1 hour landing on elysia, hopefully a high 0:59. I got lots of homework this week so it will probably be a while before i get any more segments up.
Yeah, I haven't tried doing the damage boost in Fire Bryyo. It was mentionned, though, that getting a boost from pirates was easier than from Reptilicus, but I don't know.. haven't tried it.

A fast Gandrayda battle makes all the difference... I improved my segment by 3 minutes :o On normal, 2 quick screw attacks in the beginning will take her past half life, and she will skip right to phase 3 (Samus / morphball). She's harder to hit during this phase, but 1 more screw attack and she's almost dead. A few hyper shots and voila!
kyupi+yakisoba=win
I got segment 8 up.

I have been trying and trying to do that damage boost but no luck yet. I did a quick little run around the other way just to see what my landing on elysia time could be. I got a 0:55 and can probably get a 0:53 if i could make this damage boost. If anyone has a video of them doing it off of a pirate that would be greatly appreciated. If i don't get it here pretty quick i will just go around and make sure i get it in a real run in the future.

Edit: I looked at my last post and i said i thought it would be a high 59 if i was lucky. zell99, where did i gain 7 min on you? you were within a minute of me the whole way.
You gained another minute in the segment before Rundas (I saved at 36 before him, you had 34). You probably gained another minute in segment 8 (even though you didn't mention your save time). On top of that, you most likely saved 2+ minutes skipping the Turret.

My times for Bryyo were:
38 after Rundas
44 after Ship upgrade
49 after East Generator (I did Fire Bryyo Generator first)
58 after West Generator (I did this the normal way; wasn't known that you could skip 1 turret)
1:02 landing on Elysia
Comments on segment 8

One thing I forgot to mention before is your use of single shots in hypermode instead of charge shots.  Not only do charge shots cause more damage faster, they also use less phason per damage than regular shots.

Also a couple nitpicky things I'd like to add.  First of all, in hidden court (or whatever it's called)why not shoot the pouring fuel gel on the way to the pedestal from the morphball tunnel, instead of before bombing the bomb slot?  And secondly, in the room after that, it's faster to ghetto up to the first pillar after knocking it down, instead of swinging across and jumping up the platforms.
Just so you guys have something to compare your times to, I landed on Elysia with a 1:16 during my 3:47 22% Normal run. (Which seems to be the current record time for the game at the moment.) Can't remember my other times, besides the fact that I had a little less than 3 hours by the time I was attempting the Hazard Shield skip. (Right after collecting Spiderball and returning to the Homeworld.)

Figured it might help you out a bit. Wink
kyupi+yakisoba=win
So Prime Hunter you landed on elysia in 1:16. that puts me about 21 minutes ahead of you. So if i keep at the rate im going, hopefully i will be pushing the 3 hour mark.

I think i have decided to just go around and just add the super ghetto to the list of things that should be done for a real run. Hopefully i can push my 55 down to a 54 with just better play.
Yeah, my run is nowhere near the most optimized run possible, because I can think of plenty of mistakes I could've avoided and it doesn't include a lot of the tricks. The one turret Bryyo generator trick is a part of my run though, along with the Hazard skip, which are probably two of the bigger time savers we've found so far.

I'm VERY surprised that there hasn't been any other sub 4 hour run in the community yet, though. My Prime times are NEVER near the records, and right now I seem to have it for Corruption at the moment. I know that will change FAST in the next few weeks though, once more people start getting really good at this game.

Like this one for instance. I have no doubt that you will break my time wide open, since you are already at this point based on our runs.
kyupi+yakisoba=win
Well i got segments 9, 10, and 11 up. I used the turrent skip but couldn't figure out exactly why i had to open and close that door (you will see what im talking about) to get the scan point to show up to bomb the generator in segment 9. I haven't read the whole method el padrino came up with so im not sure if i did it the best way.
