Every Bit Counts
I'm thinking about doing a 100% TAS for Super Metroid Redesign, the best hack of Super Metroid yet. The olny thing is that I need a route. So I'm asking if anyone wants to create or help create a 100% route for SMR. Thanks in advance for anyone that tries to help.
Thread title:
Haven't you already started like 7 different runs?
With that many items spread out over such a large area, I doubt many would bother attempting to make an optimized 100% route. They'd probably go mad trying.
Almost happy
Yeah, as I said at tasvideos, for the original SM the 100% route was got it's last update half a year ago, and the game is over 10 years old and have been speedrunned since it's release. SMR is more than twice as big and no one has even begun to (at least not much) think about a 100% route.

This is something for a group of people to create over the time of several months if not years.
I just read the stuff on tasvideos and got a good laugh ( especially Kriole rocks  8-)  ). I think too that Fano-fellow is starting too much of these runs and never finishing any. (well noobsmasher is a mini-hack, does not count as a big run, maybe a mini run :) )
Kinda similar to ING-X with his multiple topics about his different runs that 0% is ever finished. I guess it has both funny and annoying sides. At least we get some new topics once in a while, though most likely the same issues have been discussed in many other topics before.

Are you sure you want to start a project this big when you cannot even finish a (test)run in regular SM...
And yes, very much work to figure a good SMR 100% route, how many people have even finished that hack with 100% ? If someone finds out the optimal route for you, you would have to give that person a lot of credit for making the run possible, it is like half the work done already.
Every Bit Counts
yes, I plan on giving alot of credit to anyone that helps me make a run. every bit counts. And I'm willing to do this run. I don't think that I can make up a route on my own, as I can't make good routes. and if the route is done, thats more than half, it's like 3/4 of it.

Hahaha xD

I only got about 83% of all items or so, even though I scanned every single bit of the game. So no help from me ;/. Though if I got a complete map with all the items I could help.
Not sure if this is the right one, but here is something.

EDIT: here is the url for the map

thanks.
Every Bit Counts
well I've started working on a route. there are 148 items (according to Kej) and 12 Guardian's, so I've got to map 160 things. I've listed 20 so far, it stops at Norfair. The big question is should I IBJ up to the missile pack/tank/whatever to the up-left of #11, or should I collect it later when I have Space Jump? I forgot about IBJing, so I didn't think of it until now. please list possible improvements if you find/think of any.

Well that depends, if you need to do a cleanup in norfair later (which I imagine you do) you should probably leave most items that are not directly necessary or in your way until you return with greater abilities and such. If it is really far away from any other items and you pass by close before you might as well pick it up though. Also I'd say that you should not work yourself to death while working out the route, make it simple.
Every Bit Counts
I'm not working myself to death. I came up with these 20 items today. anyways, that item is in Brinstar, not Norfair. it's not really close, but I do need to go to the right end/mabey the top of the room on the right, so I was just asking.
Almost happy
Yeah ok, anyway as I saidd make it simple, don't get hung up on things that will make little time difference one way or the other.

I'm not. I just asked if anyone thought it might be faster one way or the other. it's probably about equal time anyways. onwards to Norfair!

Edit: YAY 1000th post.  :o :D :) extra_smug :P 8-)
I'll just be honest, you've started a million runs already and none finished, you can't get high optimization even in SM without copying, SM:R has completely changed physics you'd have to get used to which makes optimization harder and you've never done a route yourself and you're suddenly gonna pick one of the hardest there is, SM:R 100%.

I'd say you have no chance.

I know. Drewseph started working on a 100% route a while ago, and stoped because there were so many route options. He suggested that after hijump/spring ball, I go back into Crateria and get early PB's and start collecting from there. But I'm going to persist, and do the best that I can.
Lets not forget that I also recommended you give up.  I made the game, I know everything there is to know about it (more than most anyways)  and I GAVE UP.....

But that's a whole different case, you've already finished any% SM:R TAS, Fano has finished nothing. Also, you giving up does not only look at your TASing skills but mostly route-planning. That's in my opinion many times harder than making the TAS itself.
While I too wish Fano would finish the TASes he starts, I don't think blatent discouragement helps the situation. I would love to see a 100% run (of any degree of optimization) of redesign. I finished it with a little less than 70% (crazy decimal percentages), and couldn't for the life of me find more items, though that map helps a ton.

So I say go for it, but be prepared for a bit of flack if you give up.

He is getting flack already for what he didn't finish and everybody knows SMR won't be anywhere easier than the others he (still) didn't finish.  :P

If he manages to finish it - that would be nice.  But I doubt he'll have the motivation to do it.

And speaking of 'discouragement'...  He could see all of this negative feedback as encouragement to prove us all wrong.  aiwebs_008

Hadn't thought of it that way, but too true.

I, to be honest, think this is a good idea, since doing a SM:R run does not give you the option of copying. Which will ultimately make you much better.

This is the TAS that I've been the most intrested in, so I'll have some more motivation than what I've had with my 5-10 other runs.
