You know, a water pump is exactly what I was originally trying to get people to guess (a diversion). Looks like it worked somewhat. None of the above are right.
Is it ice? I'm just saying because it fits a few of the phrases.
It usually forms behind a building where it is cool. And it winter the river flows underneath ice. Icicles are trapped on rooftops until someone pulls them down. It doesn't fit the last phrase as far as I know. Someone who is thirsty can also melt the ice to drink it and open ice in water is constantly moving. And for the very last phrase the only thing I can come up with is that ice has no will so if it is thrown, it can't argue.
I have no idea but I have my own. I missed out on a dvd recorder yesterday in a quiz because of this. What singular noun becomes plural when you add a "s" to the end of it and becomes singular again when another "s" is added to the end.
Passersby may use me as They wish, so long as I am availible. Like comfort to weary travelers, I So sustain those in need if they are Willing to pay my tab. Constantly Shifting, I do what is asked of me.
Tricky one... there's certain lines that lead me in one direction, if I make a certain assumption... but then, it doesn't fit with the rest of the lines.
Thoughts on this riddle as a whole? Was it too hard, or did you all just completely miss my double meaning in the first two lines (which was what I was attempting to do)? It seems I hid it effectively - perhaps too much so. My sister did get this, while working together with my dad. He guessed a power cord, while she got the correct answer. My mom also guessed a neon sign, which doesn't really fit the clues very well, but at least they all realised it had something to do with electricity.
I got the double meaning, but was too stupid to figure out the rest of it. I'd have expected someone to nail it now I know the answer, but I guess the fact that nobody on the boards did suggests it might have been a touch on the tricky side.
