Quote from Opium:
I think it's quite possible that sales could really surprise us.  This is going to be the first time that they've release a 'real' non-mario video game since the whole wii phenomenon invaded the US.  There's a good chance that alot of nooby people might be interested in this.  When MP3 came out, alot of those people either didn't have wiis yet or were too intimidated by it's apparent complexity.  I think luring those people is what ninty had in mind when they were adamant about not including the nunchuk.

i don't see how a casual-filled userbase could help a game aimed at hardcore gamers. Nintendo's minor series haven't gained noticeable sales compared to what they did on N64 and GC. only the more casual-friendly titles like Mario and the Wii line have really gained sales because of the userbase but stuff like Wario Land, Fire Emblem and Metroid have retained similar numbers to their GC/GBA-era predecessors.
also, i don't see this game bringing in many new gamers. so far only people who know the series are aware of it and even in that group, there's a lot of people who aren't going to buy it. add in Nintendo's bad advertising and the game would be lucky to sell on par with even mp2 or hunters. i haven't seen anyone come and say "hey, that new metroid game looks rad. i haven't played a single game in the series but i'll give this one a try!" anywhere yet and that was supposedly Nintendo's goal going by their design choices.
Well, each new release tends to bring in a few new people who end up sticking around, so we'll have to see in the coming weeks if that remains the case here. I won't be surprised if it does happen, but then again out of all of the Metroid titles that have been released since the site was created, this one has the most riding on it I'd say. It has the potential to either draw in tons of new fans or kill off a good chunk of the fanbase once the general reactions/consensus spreads throughout the internet. Have to wait and see at this point.
One shall stand, one shall ball.
Would help if they didn't try to sell it like a retarded rpg. Look at these cutscenes wooooo!something about a baby

Almost happy
What, how is this game only getting 80/100 on average (which of course is about 6-6.5 since all videogame scores are so horribly inflated)? To me it sounds like the dev team really did everything they could to make the ultimate Metroid experience. They made it linear, added a bunch of plot (and heaps of backstory to Samus), made plenty of unavoidable lengthy cutscenes, made sure you had lots of interaction with other people and made it very action focused. Because that's like exactly the things that made Metroid Prime and Super Metroid two of the most critically acclaimed games ever right?

Not that this comes as a surprise or anything, and I'm sure it's a decent enough game. But seriously, god damn it.
GameSpot's review is very thorough and fair. It sounds like Other M is everything we knew it would be- a misguided attempt to revolutionize a franchise in all the wrong ways.

I'll still play it.

probably, everyone here would still play it even if it received a 0.5

real fans never quit... man, we survived fusion...
red chamber dream
fusion's a great game ... i'd say there are few people on this forum who don't like it. but you're right about me playing other m no matter what. seems like i sort of have to, being an administrator here and all.

lol

but it's better to start playing expecting a turd, than to play it expecting the second coming of jesus...
hype destroy gamers expectations, fact...
red chamber dream
i always expect turds. but perhaps not as much as tdk does.
I can't wait to play it.  I'm hearing reviewers say that it's 'definitely metroid' which is good enough for me.  It's been so long since I explored a whole new environment or discovered an item.  I need fresh meat!

i've played some hours and the only real discoveries i've made are hidden items. like older games, some secret passages might open later.

if this game was getting low scores related to bad gameplay. i would have avoided it. it's not like i waste time on turds or anything like that (i never beat hunters). so far it has been mostly bad scores because of the story and the rest are good scores. my expectations were low already so i'm having a good time so far.
Not impossible
just highly unlikely
The reviews are basically confirming all of my hopes and fears about the game. Looks like I'll be getting exactly what I was expecting on the 1st (have to wait a day to actually have the money to pick it up). That is not a good thing.

It's still Metroid though. If I could enjoy Echoes and Corruption simply because they were still, at the fundamental level, Metroid, then Other M is sure to amuse me as well.

most of the reviews are generally positive so eh. just specific things they're mixed about.

Probably none
I have played the pirated version of one of my friends (sorry, I couldn't resist the temptation)... Anyway, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. My rank is 7 or 7.5 /10

Good bye
red chamber dream
haha. very nice.
That was just plain blasphemous!
lol no way
I was like "wait what?" for a minute. I love that that's the only video up on your channel.

why do you use such small scissors? Mommy didn't want you using the big ones because she was afraid you were gonna hurt yourself?

On a slightly unrelated note, the Japanese box art and everything is cooler than the american one.
I don't care if he doesn't like the game or destroys the game......he bought the game thus supporting Nintendo first-party game :D

yeah. way epic fail. who would be retarded enough to throw away money like that? better to just cut up your money and film that instead.
pirating the game and 100%ing it is the real way to spit on the devs.

oh wait...
If you're talking about me I bought it this morning but knowing that my Wii doesn't reads DL-disk...I know it's not a good reason but I didn't want to buy another Wii or sent it to Nintendo.
