I have no way to really start this post so I'll just get to the request:
I'm looking for all canon (and possibly semi-canon, like the SMetroid comic) information regarding Samus, the Chozo, the Metroids, and anything else that might be of interest from the series. I am asking this because I recently got an idea for a story (I write stuff) involving Samus and her origins, but I haven't played all the games and don't want to start without all the information, lest I make mistakes. I'm posting here because this is the first real Metroid website/forum I ever went to, and loyalty does much. Suggestions for other places to post this would be welcome if I can't get everything here, but I have faith in this forum.

Anyways, here's what I know:
I have played (and finished) Metroid Fusion, Prime, and Zero Mission. I also have played some of the original on the ZM cart, but whatever. I know the basic plot of the remaining games.
As far as knowledge, here's what I have gathered:

About Samus
Space Pirates killed her parents.
The Chozo found her as a baby and raised her.
She was infused with Chozo blood (or something) so she could survive on Zebes.
She eventually got her Power Suit from the Chozo.
She became a bounty hunter.
[Insert Metroid Series here]

About the Chozo
They are birdlike creatures.
They are spiritual beings.
They have various prophecies, and so I'd guess they also have prophets.
They did stuff on Talon IV and then left 20 years prior to MP.
The ones on Zebes were killed by the Space Pirates.
They left statues with item balls all over the place.

About the Metroids
The Chozo made them to prey upon the X parasites.
They absorb life energy somehow.
They are thought to be the cause of the extinction of SR388.
I want one as a pet.
AAAAAAGETITOFFGETITOFFGETITOFF!!!!!!!!

What I don't know
Are all the Chozo gone? If yes, where did they go? The ones on Talon IV went to some other plane, but the others?
Do we know anything about Samus' missions before MI/MZM aside from what the MZM manual (and maybe MI manual) tells us?
What else is known as canon or semi-canon?

Thank you for your assistance.

Well, the Nintendo Power comics seem to show that there's at least one Chozo left, but god knows if those have any credibility at all.

Samus was within the Federation's task force at one point (hence the whole 'Adam was my CO' thing), but eventually left ("My way or the highway") on her own accord. That's all I can give.

The chozo got so advanced on this world that they went away to just observe us.  The Space Station that Samus was killed on had a name, although currently it escapes me.  She got infused with chozo blood for strength, and not a lot else is canon.  Oh, and the NP SM comic is crap.  Utter crap.  Ignore it completely.
lol no way
Eh... the planet Samus was raised on (with her human family) was called K-2L, and was really more of a colony. The Space Pirates attacked it and killed everyone except Samus who had apparently hidden.. or something (how could they NOT find her? And wouldn't anyone else be smart enough to realize "Hey, these gigantic praying mantises are killing people, I gotta get outta heah!"?). Then the Chozo found her and took her to Zebes. The reason she has Chozo blood is because she couldn't live on Zebes for... some reason (I got this from the translated japanese e-mange at newtourian.com). She couldn't breath or something retarded. Uhh.. the Mother Brain was created by the Chozo, dunno how it became evil though. I know lots of little facts but not a lot come to mind right now.

Edit: wait, you said you already knew the living on Zebes thing... did you read that manga too then?

The NewTourian comic page is down right now, so can anybody tell me the location of the translated e-manga?

Thats exactly what  i thought about, and i realized the entire site just went kaput.  I know someone has to have a copy of the translated E-manga somewhere, we need to upload them.

anyway, the super metroid nintendo power comic is NOT canon.

However, the E-manga (non translated can be found on http://www.metroid.jp/metroid_version1/ecomic/index.html ) is completely canon, written by the man in charge of metroid himself right now.

Then of course, the games are canon. (metroid, metroid prime, metroid prime 2, metroid 2, super metroid, metroid 4)  I'm not so sure about Hunters, but we shall see i suppose.

The chozo info is hard to find, theyre rather mysterious for a good reason.  Look to a combination of the E-manga and metroid prime for some good backstory, there are also a lot of things that need to  be inferred.

At the very least, make sure you realize that mother brain + chozo's created the metroids, of course, why mother brain turned againt the chozo's is still unknown.

It was mentioned all throughout ZM and the manual. For example, in the manual it says something to the effect of:
Quote from A misquoted ZM manual:
...the planet Zebes, which was where Samus herself had been raised. Burying memories of the planet, blah blah blah...

Already this thread has proven very useful. For example, I didn't know that Mother Brain helped the Chozo make the Metroids, or that the Chozo even made her/it/thing.
Another question I have: I haven't played RoS or SM yet. I just know the basic ideas.* Is there anything important from those games/their manuals?

* RoS: Metroids on SR388. Kill. Wait, what's that? Mama Metroid? AAA!
SM: I saved the day, time to go hom- wait! The place I left is under attack! Ridley?!?! YOUSTOLEMYCHILDNOOOOOOOOOOO! I kill you! What? Mama Brain's back again!? Curse you, Zelda! Curse you, Sages! Curse you, Link!
Well, in Metroid 2, Samus visits SR388 where she pretty much kills off the Metroid species. The only survivor is the larva, which she takes to the Space Colony. (Ceres I believe)

That's where Super starts up, where Ridley invades the colony and takes the larva. The colony self destructs shortly after.

She folllows him to Zebes, where the pirates have begun to produce new Metroids thanks to the larva. Samus stops their plans, but only after she encounters Mother Brain again and the larva, which is killed in the battle while protecting Samus.

Samus escapes Zebes. which proceeds to explode.  At that point, it's believed that the Metroids will never return, but that's proven false due to Fusion.

I hope all of this will help: This is more of a summary from playing the games, not from the manuals. Not sure if there's anything of value I missed from them.

Edit: As far as I knew, only the Chozo made the Metroids, and Mother Brain was something found on Zebes. I don't recall anything about MB aiding them in the creation, but it may have been said somewhere that I know nothing about.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
Currently in flux is the Space Pirates' leader. Super claimed it as MB somewhere, I believe, but ZM's manual claims it as Ridley. MP's Meta-Ridely discriptions kinda throw a chunk in that, though.
Mother Brain was the supercomputer made by the chozo, to do stuff for them. Just like we use computers now, only more advanced.

It is made somewhat apparent  in the E-manga that Mother Brain helped engineer and is almost directly responsible for anything related to the metroids. (There are very little mention of metroids in the E-manga, and every mention that happens generally involved a chozo asking mother brain directly about something related to the metroid "issues" that are showing up.)    Zero Mission also helps show this whenever she sets the metroids to go and kill the pirates.
I also believe this is the reason the metroids ended up with the ability to mutate, which the chozo's were unaware of from the beginning.  I think motherbrain, because she was so smart, believes herself to be superior to the chozo's that created her.  Of course, why she sides with pirates is still unknown >_>

Mother brain also shows a dislike of samus in the 2 manga's that i can get ahold of.  (Are any more out?  Even if for pay?)
That explains it: Never seen the E-Manga, so I didn't know that: Thanks for clearing it up for me
lol no way
Uhm... I think there was a link to the 3rd through the 6th or something (that were horribly out of order) on the Metroid Database message board... I'll link in a minute.

Edit: Link.

Wow never knew about half that stuff but I am guessing the reason Mother Brain allied with the space pirates is that being a dormant computer you need some goonies to do the work for you. She/it probably keeps them loyal by suplying info for expirements and such to increase their army.
Anyone out there able/willing to translate that? Or point me to someone who already has?
Here is a Metroid website that might help.

Hope this helps! :)
At the request of Dark_T_Zeratul, a translation is in order!

Aaaaaand, there you have it.

Nope.  They haven't updated in quite some time.  A shame, really, since they're such a good site.

And Elyscape... Thanks for the laugh.

They haven't updated in a while. :(

When do they plan to update? :?
I always thought it was weird that they named a girl Samus. Samus to me always seemed like more of a guys name.

Then again, I remember reading somewhere that they changed Samus to a girl at the last minute.

Her Mom's name is "Virginia"

It could have been worse. (I think samus is actually a rather feminine sounding name... Hm... naming my daughter Samus...)

That, and Samus wasn't originally meant to be a girl is correct, they just threw that in at the end as some sort of easter-egg and then made Justin_Bailey
the mac tech at the compusa i went to in houston's name was samus, but he said it "say-mus." i refrained from saying something to him he'd probably heard a million times before.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
If you mean the JUSTIN BAILEY code, that was not an intentional password.
I thought I read somewhere that Justin Bailey was some guy who won a competition and that was his prize. :?  maybe it was wrong

Mr. Green Yay! I never knew that smiley was there until I clicked view more emoticons.  (I know that was random)
