Other M killed so much of what was cool about metroid, including speedrunning. It seems weird to put effort into 'refurbishing' something that has essentially become an archive for a few curious dabblers.

To be fair it really has only ever been that. And people have put far more effort in to even less important things.
On a serious note, I'd personally be willing to help in updating the site. There's especially a ton of stuff that's outdated for mp2 and mp3 (lol), and I've seen a ton of people around streams that are interested in learning how to speedrun mp2, but don't know where to start because this site is so outdated. For the most part, people still do care about speedrunning metroid.
It's just that nobody else really wants to take that responsibility nowadays, and I'm still relatively new to the metroid2002 community, so if I were someone else, I wouldn't consider kirbymastah to be "trustworthy".
this topic made me realize a few things. i've been here a long time already. i still remember the days when it was updated. even though it is a shame there's no updates anymore, i can't really complain since i never tried to submit a speed trick for an update or anything similar.
this also looks similar to what happened over the years to the F-Zero site i visit. a lot of the popularity problem is thanks to nintendo dropping the ball and not trying the best they could when making the most recent games. the fact that a lot of metroid discussions degenerate into other m nonsense is pretty much nintendo's fault.
due to the sda marathon this topic has surfaced again. i want to make clear that i am always willing to post new content or update existing content.
for new content i need:
- the section and name of the page (e.g., boss tricks: humanform skip) - the name(s) of the discoverer(s) (if any) - the video(s) in sda medium ("normal") quality (use anri; otherwise they are h.264 512 kbit, aac 64 kbit, 320x240 ~30 fps mp4 playable in quicktime 7) - the page text ("notes") in plain .txt format (use notepad). optionally you can go ahead and do the html based on what you see in the source of existing pages. keep in mind that you don't need to do the whole page - only the notes section.
give the .mp4 and .txt the same name, like boss_tricks_humanform_skip. if there's more than one video, do like boss_tricks_humanform_skip_1, boss_tricks_humanform_skip_2, etc.
for updates to existing pages i just need the name of the page (e.g. boss_tricks_ridley_1) and what i need to change. you can just give me the edited html of the page if you want. if there are new videos they should be named in the same way.
you can submit stuff however's convenient for you - attaching to a post here, email, mediafire, whatever.
There's a ton of stuff I'd love to send over to you for mp2 and mp3 (lol) stuff, mostly discovered by miles and parax. Be prepared for a ton of PMs this weekend... <_<
Also miles, get your butt on sending over stuff for mp2
Hey Kirby I take it you have a way of submitting all this info right? I don't have a computer or access to a computer and I know it's but a minor contribution but could you submit the save warp I found if its not too much a hassle?
Hey nate, would it be appropriate if I tell you which videos for metroid fusion to remove? A lot of the videos on m2k2 have been shown to be slow (much slower, sometimes); I can give you a list of rooms to remove, or I can send you corresponding videos to replace them with?
nate would probably put up videos if someone made them but i'm not sure that's the best idea. unless someone recorded a ton of shit for each game, the main page would only go from really outdated to slightly less outdated. the forum is really the best place to go for everything.
Well ya the forum will always be necessary. But then again the point of having the main site is for it to, well... have content.
Nate, something that would really help is to have a page on the main site where people can submit videos and shit. Maybe have some kind of PHP form that sends an email to you with the uploaded video attached. I will also take the liberty to start a new thread and compile a list of things that need to be documented here so we can properly submit them.
Yes I am interested in keeping this site alive, even if it only is an archive at this point.
