Super Metroid Reborn is being revived, in this hack the game will be fully redesigned and then some. There are big plans for the hack, many of which will go beyond level editing, into the area of programming- something which I know little about, and cry out for help with. Anyone with skills to offer who wants to join the team, or anyone who just wants to contribute something, is welcome to, and will be credited for it.

A pre-thankyou to any contributors.
Thread title:
If you need any GFX sprites or anything like that i could help.
YAY TEXT
thanks i need a few sprites a bit later when ive got some of the ASM done, i'll keep it in mind and i'm pleased someone has shown interest in the hack

edit: wonder if the offer is still open...
Are you ready for some underwear music?
If you need a level designer, then I would be happy to join your project. Very Happy
P.S. What application you use to make it?
Every Bit Counts
I'll be glad to help in any way I can. I don't know much about programing, but I'll help as much as I can. *Hope I can help* Just tell me what you need and I'll try to help, weather it's testing, level desgin, editor help, I'll help out in anyway I can.
I don't think he is doing this project anymore.

The project was very much dead, but replies to my ancient topic have made me think about it...

Reborn will be revived, the old work is getting scrapped, starting from tomorrow Reborn is back in the works.

People that want to be part of it, let me know what you have to offer, then we can speak via other means (I may set up an IRC channel for it), and i'll tell you exactly whats planned for the hack.

All help will be appreciated, this is a pretty whack-off project.

Detonator300:considering the estimated sizer of this hack, theres going to be plenty of level design to do, i'll be doing alot of it, ive got an offer for some brinstar, but therel be plenty and its allways worth having, welcome aboard  :D. When its all up and running again, we'll talk about what you could do.

Fano7: what can you do best? There'd be no point me asking you to do something you know nothing about would there?
Stuffs. Yar.
*tries to resist the urge to make the horrible joke about Reborn being Reborn*

Well, if/when you need to test it, let me know. I'd say my skills are about average, so if that's your target audience...

Surprisingly Edward_Tohr, no pun intended. As of now, Its planned to be fitting to average skill, with quite a steep rise later in the game. So an average skilled tester would be the best kind, i'll keep you in mind when it comes to a beta  :)
Every Bit Counts
I'll be glad to help out in any way I can. Put me in an area, and I'll do my best. I don't think I'll be good with graphics, unless I don't need to make them up. You said you need help with programming, but I'm not strong in that area, yet. I do plan on learning some stuff though. And I'll test if you need testers. I hope I can help somehow.

Fano7, you got mail
I will beta test, and I have some limited knowledge of smile.
I will also test, and I'd like to think I'm knowledgeable about SMILE, just don't ask about pointers and I'm your guy.
Shohina, The water on the top of my head.
I talked before you did revive this, I am making green + blue brinstar.
If you want my opinion, If this is a group project I think it is enough that all the people that actually are working on it test it. :P

We still have no level designers for most of Norfair and Maridia, nor do we have anyone able to use much ASM. If there is anyone who wants to do any of this for Reborn, now is the time to join.

What we aim for in Maridia is an exploration type area, with large cavern like rooms, and for Norfair, a more platforming based area.
I might be able to help with the those. I've never really used smile, but it can't be that hard to learn the basics, right?

Actually it is. It takes around half a year to get the grip off it all. A bit less time if your used to hacking before and know what hex is and how it works.

Captain Canada: Thats a problem, SMILE isn't as simple to use as one might think, due to the way the game works.
Sorry  :(

If you're interested in hacking Super Metroid, you should grab SMILE and possibly a hex editor, theres nothing to stop you making your own hack when you do get used to it  :)
If its not too hard, I could work on parts of Maridia and Norfair.
I would definitely be interested in level design, but how would we transfer work? Also, I work much better the more specific my instructions are. Room by room instructions, not block by block instructions though.  laugh new

Also, I'm better at midsized rooms than I am small or large.

A ISP patch only contains your changes. That way we can put all data to one ROM in the end.

Also, just checking but. You do know how to move rooms right? In data and map layout vice. And how to make doors?
Because that is kinda minimum on what you need to know really.  Question

Also we are making each rooms from scratch so don't expect to get away with "just harder made" rooms like what you did in pudding.  Wink
"get away" with rooms? a ha ha ha ha. I wouldn't dream of it. No seriously, I'm still in, it'll just be for less rooms than what I thought before, or the same amount of rooms, just in more time. Is there any kind of strict time limit on this, because if my skills are deemed worthy, they're'll be no way I can start on this until at least after New Years.

Now, when you say "make doors" do you mean make door tiles completely from scratch? Or do you mean, just reassign their destination? If its that first one, I have some learning to do, but I can do the second one now.

Also, I have no idea how to use the map function of SMILE. I'm willing to learn, and have a couple people in mind to teach me, but have never actually needed to use it before.

Both the map editor and making door tiles are easy to learn, would you be better at working on a:

1) Platforming and skills based type area, with mixed room sizes or.

2) Exploration based area with wide spaced rooms.

You can move rooms data wise right? If so we have the last person we need, apart from someone with more than the simplest programming knowledge. If not i'm pretty sure you can learn  :D
I think I'd be better at the skill based areas, mainly because I alway felt that with big rooms, there was too much empty space and I felt pressured to fill up a lot of space, whereas with different sizes I was more free to show variation.

What do you mean move rooms data wise?  I can probably do it, but if not, like I said, I can learn.
YAY TEXT
If for example, the room is too big to save, open it in a hex editor and move it so you have more space.
