I've done a couple of attempts at Ridley for funsies, and I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to Crystal Flash during the fight? I know there's a point on the platform where you can dodge his tail stabs, but will that give me enough time, and can he interrupt it anyways after it starts?
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
actually, crystal flashing during the Ridley fight is particularly difficult. If Ridley touches you during a crystal flash your energy drains ludicrously fast, especially if you have no suits. I quite honestly will crystal flash IN THE ACID just to better avoid Ridley... although in a RBO that is not as useful of a tactic as the acid damage is far more significant.
You can try on the platform, but it's largely a matter of luck as far as surviving it goes. Avoiding Ridley before the power bomb explodes is a bit tricky as well... Ridley will retain his current velocity when you lay a powerbomb, but his AI switches. He will attempt to ram you for about 2 seconds, and then he will fly away from the powerbomb until it finishes exploding. So you want to lay the powerbomb when Ridley is moving away from you, or he is a large distance away from you to begin with.

OMFG Ridley went down at 9:25pm pacific time tonight (thats like 5 minutes before I started writing this post). Sorry about no video, but there's NO way I'm doing that again! I might post a short vid of the Norfair map with Ridley X'ed out and then my equipment if anybody wants to demand proof or something.

After many attempts and working the kinks out of my strategy, I got it figured out. In the room before Ridley, you can crouch/grapple the bugs on your left and right and fill up on supers pretty easily. Couple that with being full on PBs from the firefly room, and you would normally be able to enter Ridley's room with 25 supers if you did a fresh crystal flash, OR you could CF and THEN get your supers filled.

My inability to dodge Ridley like a Kung-Fu Masta made the choice pretty obvious-- more supers. I'd rather go into the fight with 10 more supers and 3 less E-tanks than the other way around. It only took me about 10 tries with this strategy to kill him (and die in the process-- yay heat) and one more try after that to SURVIVE him dying. After I got over the disbelief that I finally slayed the beast, I carefully made it back up to the bug room to stock up on supers and then carefully made it back up to the save room!

Unfortunately, I don't have any evidence that Draygon is any easier, what with having to abuse blue suit shennanigans just to kill him and get out of the room. Would I still be able to collect the Space Jump with blue suit?

EDIT: Went ahead and recorded a small proof video for myself on my camera phone. As soon as I get ahold of my mini-SD card reader, I'll post it up here :)
According to this page, you need to use bluesuit to get out of the room right before Draygon's room, which would preclude using bluesuit to get out of Draygon's room itself, which in turn precludes grabbing spacejump. You can return and get it after killing Phantoon, I suppose.
Ahhhh ok, I was under the impression you had to use bluesuit to get out of Draygon's room itself. Thanks for the pointer. It's not like the space jump is useful anyways.
I've done an RBO playthrough an the Pal cartridge/console myself, which is slightly easier, though I believe the differences are marginal enough to make that much of a difference (yeah).

Draygon is as much a beast as Ridley himself. I recommend reading the hints at the videos from the main site (-> 60 Button presses) aswell as resorting to Kejardon's 14/15% walkthrough which you can find on gamefaqs. You can find Draygon's health points and how much damage all weapons do to him in there. You obviously want to kill him with as few hits as possible when attempting to hit him from the upper ledge.

It's a bit sad how the tension slowly rises upwards (Suitless item collecting, upper Norfair, Maridia collecting), up until developing to it's climax (Lower Norfair & Ridley, Killing Draygon), just to completly fall apart in the end. I loved it anyway.

If you don't collect either of the Suits later, you could argue that Mother Brain will be more challenging thanks to taking more damage and the stronger Hyper Beam which takes around six Energy Tanks instead of three.
Except that it is still very easy to defeat her.

Good luck.
you can use a shinespark to get out of draygon's room and then x-ray climb out of the room right before draygon. That way you can get space jump while you're there. You don't really need space jump though. Just a suggestion.
I have zero practice at X-ray climbing :( It's okay though, since Phantoon will die like 5 minutes after Draygon anyways.

Thanks for the tip about Kej's 14-15. Knowing weapon damage is what allowed me to kill Ridley, so I'll very much need to know for Dray.

um. Actually I don't think I have Draygon's hp in that guide.
Draygon has 6000 HP IIRC. 300 to supers, 100 to missiles and normal beam damages. Power bombs do no damage but clear the gunk nicely. Charged Wave / Power Bomb is generally favored for trying to kill Draygon from the top-right corner but I don't really have any practice with that so I can't give you any good tips for timing it.
Question about the 60 button presses- does that include control pad movements? Or should I just mash jump button 59 times? Because I tried 60 with just control pad movements and he didn't drop me.
Embarrasing Fact: Power suit made by lowest bidder
It does count the d-pad. With how it counts, it will count forward then up-forward as two buttons, but up-forward then forward as only one button press (you are *releasing* the up button to go from up-forward to forward, not pressing a new button)
Draygon went down tonight, managed to capture the end of 2 attempts, one of which ended in me dying in the quicksand under the save room <.< Will upload as soon as I manage to find my converter.

Also, I don't think it's been mentioned before, but Draygon can be hit with missiles/charge shots from the upper platform.

I thought this was rather obvious?? The timing is what tends to be hard though.
Yeah, the timing is hard. I thought I'd mention it because the main site doesn't say anything about using weapons other than beam shields, which gave me the impression that it wasn't possible to hit him with regular shots, but then again, I tend to ignore the obvious. Anyways, mission complete @ 100% with 5:18 on the clock :)
For anyone who cares, I've finally uploaded my proofs of Ridley and Draygon's deaths (Though I apologize Ridley's death was not on camera-- i wasn't going to record 50 fights until i finally got the one that I won on), and also, I posted what may be the most epicfail loss against Draygon ever!
