Ah. Might be a question better suited for the hacking thread so I can post a more detailed answer there if you want. But the gist of it, for the refill randomizer at least, is you read every MREA file, jump to where object data, and start parsing every object in the room. Anything marked as a pickup for health, PBs, or missiles is checked to make sure it's not an expansion, then the pickup type is randomized.
So, I'm having a weird issue where every randomized iso I rebuild spits out the same randomization regardless of the seed used and what the logs say should be changed.  I keep getting copies of the first randomization I tried.  I don't know if it's Dolphin keeping some residual data saved somewhere or if I'm just messing up over and over.  I'm currently using the GCR method but I'm not using reka's script.  I'm thinking of trying again but letting Dolphin extract everything instead and then running the randomizer once more.

I was having fun with the first run until I got to a point where I just couldn't proceed because the beams were hidden away behind doors that I couldn't get through.  Technically I might have been able to get Plasma Beam if I were capable of doing the secret world to Ice Beam's area, since Plasma was at the halfpipe before X-Ray and I had power bombs but I can't do out-of-bounds stuff.

Hopefully this randomizer gets some options for ability soon because it's still really fun even if it's not possible more often than not.

Yeah I was doing just that.  I was also deleting the memory card save file every time.

I started over, this time using the randomizer script.  We'll see how it goes.
Maybe you've been forgetting to repack the paks?
Whatever the case, I got it to work again.  My latest run was ended when I looked at the item list and discovered Wave Beam and Boost Ball are both in the Tower of Light.

I feel like most runs end just because of the beam doors and whether or not you get lucky enough to find all the beams early.

Damn. This was such a fun seed. Especially since I lack 100% knowledge and didn't find ice beam untill very late in the run inside the pillar in triclops pit laugh new.

I thought I was stuck and then watched some videos and found I could still get about 5 more items from places I simply forgot. Then still no plasma beam and decided to check the log. Anyway I still had great fun with this seed. On to number 3!

I'm in for this as well. I think it would be the first step to solve this problem if there should be a randomizer that only makes finishable runs. I think I read that this is a goal.
We should probably make a list of rooms where "xxxx beam" should not be placed. Would this be programmable?

On the other hand, it kind of has a thrill to it that you never know if you are able to finish your run or not
This RNG doesn't let me enter from Arboterum Access to Arboteru. First it game me a hard crash (Wii went BZZ). Tried again and it wouldn't load even if i waited, reloaded Arboterum Access and then the Arboterum door gave me another hard crash.

I'm of the opposite opinion when it comes to not knowing if your run is possible.  But then again, that's why having it as an option would be the best way.  One of the randomizers for SM has a checkbox for "Possible to Finish" and I think it's better for it.  I don't like finding my time is ultimately wasted.

having all the options is best since people who still want the trill of not knowing they can finish can still have a randomizer like that.

it also serves the crazy people that want to have every item randomized :p

It is possible but the problem is that it's very conditional.

How skilled are you at the game? How patient are you? Are you going to wait 3 hours to float back up from the bottom of North Quarantine Tunnel? Can you do IBBF How about other OOB? How about 21% strats? Do you have X beam? (having certain beams makes other placements possible, and iirc the randomiser doesn't know until it's done where everything is), etc. There's a lot of obstacles.

For now, I've resigned to keeping Wave, Ice, Morph and Bombs in the same spot. Been working fairly well so far

Ice, Wave. Not in Mines, crashed frigate, Far Phendrana
Wave. Not in back of magmoor, back of chozo

Sure, runs could still be finished with a spread where any of these beams are located in the rooms as mentioned above but it would certainly help the more casual players to avoid wallcrawling.

I personally like wallcrawling up to a certain level, also things such as floaty jump and infinite speed are very fun to use so probably I would not use the option described above. Still, I think it is a reasonable solution and would make 90% of randomizers completable for reasonable players.
Making the randomizer always completable is not a new idea and it's already in the cards. It just hasn't been implemented yet. Patience :P
It's been a few years since I did any major sequence breaking but is wall-crawling the same thing as what used to be known as secret world skips?  Because if so I know I can't do any of those and definitely would like an option to ensure no necessary wallcrawling.

But again, Wave is perfectly obtainable in Crashed Frigate as long as you have Ice :p

I dunno, I wouldn't want to have to wallcrawl into the Crashed Frigate without SJ. And then get stuck because I can't climb Great Tree Hall.
Wave beam can't be in the crashed frigate since its needed to activate doors.  so you can only get so far in a room with just the ice beam.  Also what if the randomizer could somehow also randomize beam types on door shells?
