Randomizer release

Damn, I would really like to play this. Before getting into setting this up, am I able to play the 0-00 ISO from a USB or SD card on my softmodded PAL wii? if not use the PAL ISO and try to see if the randomizer works?

Im a complete beginner with this so would like to know if this is possible before putting a lot of time in it.

haha, this was a fun one. Thought the run was dead after I cleared out Phendrana and didn't have anything left aside from painful wallcrawls... then I wallcrawled to HotE and found Space Jump, checked Root Cave and found Ice Beam, and it was full speed ahead from there. Actually finding Plasma in Plasma Processing was pretty funny too

I tried modding OP to use Elite Pirate assets on that run too, which didn't go so well. Thankfully he didn't have anything important. :P

Okay, so I've got an old MP .gcm file from a few years back. but I'm really confused how I go from this file to "dumping" it with the dolphin, I don't see any feature to dump anything? is there a video showing a step by step process on how to use the randomizer?

A .gcm is nothing more than an .iso with a different filename, so you can just rename it and you can use a script I made to go through the process, if you're on Windows.

In Dolphin, after adding the game to the game menu, right click --> Properties --> Filesystem --> right click Disc --> Extract All Files.

I'd only really recommend you use Dolphin to extract the files if you intend to play on Dolphin, in which case you can also set it to read files straight out of your extracted folder, which massively simplifies things because you don't need to worry about rebuilding the ISO or getting it to run. Otherwise, check the first post and the included readme for instructions on how to rebuild the ISO using GC Rebuilder, or use rekameohs's script to generate a new ISO.

So I've dumped all the files and now I can't figure out how to unpack them with the PakTool. it just opens a cmd window which immediatley closes after a split second. I tried dragn dropping the metroid pak files with no luck. what gives?

PakTool needs commands to function properly. You have to open a cmd window in the directory with PakTool.exe. From there the command to unpack a pak is:

I recommend using either the bat files included with the download or rekameohs's script, it mostly handles this for you so you don't really need to mess with the console.

man I really hope we reach a point where we could creat a full game in the MP engine. I'm really enjoying this hack. I see people posting seeds, how does one generate based off a seed instead of being totally random?

Attempt number fourteen: 97% in 6:18, done entirely in-bounds. I'm so rusty, I practically had to learn how to play this game all over again.

Space Jump was in Alcove just like old times, and I got most of the other key items early on, but OP was holding Boost Ball and the laser+spinner puzzle in the Mines was protecting the Spider Ball. I needed to re-learn lots of tricks that I haven't done in seven or eight years and many of them took a lot of tries to get. Not having Boost for most of the game also slowed everything down a lot.

X-Ray was readily available in Gravity Chamber, but I ended up going to the Mines without it. This proved to be a terrible mistake.

I was also going for 100% here but I broke Observatory. The item platform remained out of reach, the scan point wasn't scannable, the bomb slots were all deactivated and the spinners didn't work. I tried to UBJ up to the item but gave up. I'm guessing this is a known phenomenon but is there a way to make sure it doesn't happen?

You could also easily create a missile door shield, change the model used, set it to be vulnerable to only Power Bombs, and voila, you have an Echoes Power Bomb door lock. Or you could be more original and create a Wavebuster door lock if you wanted to.

Also, we aren't actually choosing a specific seed, we're just posting the logs - you should have one too for every time you run the randomizer, check in the logs folder. If you actually do want to choose a specific seed though, check the randomizer readme.

You can actually get the item from that puzzle without Boost Ball. Every time you roll into the spinner, the laser cannon rotates a tiny bit. It takes a while, but it's possible to keep bombing out and rolling back in to turn it all the way to the wall without using Boost.

I guess you "broke" Observatory because you didn't lock the lower door first and THEN knocked out the 5 Pirates. That procedure makes the scan post scannable. As long as you're currently not in neither a Speedrun nor NSJ, you can just reload the room, try again and everything is fine.

Surprisingly enough yes every single exploit in this game works properly on dolphin including IS. There's slightly different side affects (you can re morph after unmorphing and still see, the artifacts after unmorphing are different, etc) but the core mechanics of everything work just fine.
