Also, let me know if the script I posted last page is or isn't working for you. It worked on mine, but I want to be sure.

tried it in dolphin and it worked. pretty sure it doesn't randomize truth though which is the only thing that i'd prefer.

Great, thanks for letting me know.

I just used the defaults from Paraxade's application. He has documentation on how to customize the randomizer, so you can just edit the "Prime_Randomizer -f ..\game\root" line in Notepad.
It doesn't randomize Truth because if you do, whatever item is in Truth's place activates the Ridley cutscene regardless of whether or not you have truth

"bsdiff uses memory equal to 17 times the size of ⟨oldfile⟩, and requires an absolute minimum working set size of 8 times the size of oldfile."

so you'd need >12 gig of RAM to create a binary patch with bsdiff, that's not going to fly on my PC, maybe one of the less efficient but less memory hungry binary diffing tools might work better

I suppose you could cut the ISO into pieces and diff them individually but it's starting to seem like it might not be worth the trouble

i personally don't see a problem with this.

Looking at Parax's readme, just change "Prime_Randomizer -f ..\game\root" to "Prime_Randomizer -f ..\game\root -e 5,19,28" if you want only Missile Launcher, Morph Ball, and Bombs to stay or "Prime_Randomizer -f ..\game\root -e nothing" if you want everything randomized.
To be honest it kinda fucks the game up cos you're supposed to get 12 artifacts and skipping over one for the sake of convenience is lame in my opinion

Just to clarify, the randomizer is entirely Miles's work, and PakTool is entirely my work. We did sort of collaborate on figuring out how things work and putting the package together, but the randomizer's his project. He wrote the readme as well, the only thing I did was add the line thanking Xinoea for the Phazon Suit texture. I did write the other two readmes, though.

I don't either. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't really much of a practical difference between randomizing it and not randomizing it. Either way, you need to hunt down 11 artifacts and the 12th doesn't really matter. Yes, randomizing it means you might get a useful item in Artifact Temple, but it's kind of offset by the fact that you might find Truth somewhere else too.

Quote from DJGrenola:
something else I was wondering is whether it would be feasible to produce a binary patch that you could just use to patch the vanilla ISO without needing the randomiser software

Not sure how it could ever be done without the randomizer software (since that's what would even be generating this patch in the first place), but making something to edit the ISO directly and not having to unpack anything would be ideal at some point in the future imo.

no, you're right, it couldn't be done without the software, but it would allow you to distribute one particular randomised version of the game without using the software and without having to distribute a copyrighted ISO

(but I still think it probably won't work efficiently)

edit: I've installed the randomiser now so I'll look into it

I guess, but I'm not sure what the point of that would be. Something like that sounds like it would be more useful for actual mods, but the whole point of the randomizer is it's a unique experience every time.
Wow, alright. I finally got a loader to launch Metroid Prime from USB through Nintendont... and it was the slowest loading of them all. I think the only possible thing at this point is just bad hardware? Like, I need a new drive
umm, are you sure it's not the ISO? Have you tried another one?

Yeah, I've tried 3 different rips and even the european version just because

Caved in and looked at my log.

Code:
Mines - Phazon Mining Tunnel - Artifact of Newborn - Space Jump Boots

oh no

Gotta do a 5 Tank VMR w/o SJ but I think that's doable.
OK so I burned the ISO to DVD-R and it booted fine on my drivechipped NA Wii so I can confirm that works

I fucking got it to work finally. I don't even know how, but I did.
Ice beam second item, nice
You aught to submit this to rom websites when you get it completable and working well, Parax
awesome :P Ice Beams the most important beam I think since it completely locks you out of big chunks of the game til you get it. Wave sorta does too but you can wallcrawl around wave requirements more often than not.

err what? Why would I submit this to a rom website?
rom websites have hacks on them and this would be a great one

Lol. Wave after bombs.

And now I have gravity and varia without leaving the ruins ... Kinda broken

Aruki: 2014-06-22 09:25:21 pm
A lot of the time it's actually ideal to avoid Gravity early in the run until after you beat Flaahgra so you can take advantage of floaty jump... it's nice for Dynamo, Training Chamber, Tower of Light, and a lot of stuff in the back of the ruins like Furnace and Crossway, plus makes wallcrawling a bit easier.

Gathering Hall SW is kind of annoying if you don't have SJ though.
Edit history:
DJGrenola: 2014-06-22 09:36:14 pm
Ah I hadn't even considered floaty jump. Yeah no SJ or charge is making the game really weird and I already looked at crossway and figured I probably couldn't do it yet

This is really fun actually but I haven't played prime in years so I'm sucking pretty horribly at it

HBJed up furnace like an old pro though!
Haha yeah, all the 21% experience has definitely been coming in handy in randomizer.
Lol there's something funny about beating flaahgra and then the cutscene zooms in on ... an energy tank.
I don't know if this has been noted or anything, but the NTSC-J version of this game loads INSTANTLY. Which makes me confused as to why the NTSC-U version doesn't.
