DN: The CLI FTP doesn't care if the file shows up or not, it just deletes it. Even if the .htaccess file doesn't show up in the file listing (ls+return or dir+return), if it's there, you can delete it, and the system won't care if you can see it or not. You can also retrieve it from the CLI without being able to see it.
If anyone wants FileSpace, they can go to StreamLoad for some. If you can't figure out how to link to your files, you can ask me. I've had StreamLoad for a while now. You can rename the random avatar .htaccess to just ".htaccess" but the random avatar program will not work, seeing as how the links to your file doesn't end in ".jpg" for some reason.
But if anybody here is just looking for some filespace that's good, reliable and fast, I suggest StreamLoad. They have 100MB upload quota, and no limitations on what kind of file you upload, so long as it ain't porno. So... That's just an alternative to anybody that asks for filespace here. The random avatars don't work, but everything else does.
Now maybe less people will bother Nate for filespace, seeing as how the poor man can't afford to give it to everyone that asks.
While we're on the subject... While I was getting rid of that .htaccess file on my M2K2 space, I decided to go through IE to get to my space. Well, usually I go through "My Network Spaces" to get to my M2K2 space. Well, when I went though IE it prompted me for my password (My Network Places never did) but I thought "Hey, if that's what I need to do..." so I put in my passowrd and all was good.
However, anytime I try and link to my space, for example, http://www.metroid2002.com/deathnoble it'll come up with a forbidden, you don't have permission to access this place. Why and how do I get it to not do that so people can view my space?
It's already in the .htaccess file. I've figured out how to get the thing to give links to the file and end with .jpg but as you can see, it still isn't randomizing the images.
You also need to upload a .htaccess file to force the filetype as a PHP script instead of a JPEG. Doesn't work if you don't. I had some real problems with that when setting mine up on my (now defunct) M2k2 FTP.
in other words, follow the directions in the first post. of course, it won't work no matter what you do if they're not running apache, or they are running apache and don't have .htaccess files enabled for where you're putting your avatars.
Actually they're still there for another few days. Nate said he'd delete them on the first. Not using mine anymore; I've moved to another server, courtesy of StarmanHaxor.
For a random avatar? FreeWebTown works fine enough for me.
but not for me might say something, but i don't know what apache is
