Watched the Phaaze and Dark Samus vids so far. Great job, kip. The only thing I can suggest other than what's already been said is that I find the Dark Samus fight to be a lot faster/easier when just spamming uncharged shots. Dunno if that's just me, though.
Cleared with 1 tank..

go invalidating your own vids 20 seconds after uploading

My nerves are still shot to hell from that aurora's head fight.. few shots left to kill then he gets me good with that quad laser. I screw attack to wait the rest of it out, then get him while he's spinning. Thought for sure I was gonna die before I could finish him. Hate those quad lasers. :(

Other than that though, the 1 tank fights were much better. Took no damage from aurora 1 and killed him much faster (at least it felt like it). New boss fights will be up by some time tomorrow.. dialup and all.
What difficulty setting are those vids on?
Anywhere, everywhere
Awesome.

So 23% Hyper really is possible.
Just a note on the battery issue... I've tried a couple of the different chargers... each had its adantage I suppose, but the charges only would last for a few hours at most...

I just recently got a new Energizer charger + 4 batteries and they lasted me for over a week of hardcore corruption playing.

I think I got about 8 days before I had to change to the second set... MUCH better than stopping every so often to switch chargers and such.
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
I think you can dodge the spinning flamethrower attack by going into the Morph Ball.
just watched all the vids. looks like this is going to be an awesome game for low %. just one thing - did you realize you're only recording the left audio channel? sounds a little weird. :)
So did you get a 23% hypermode, then? I'm working on one now, but I got one quick question: Can someone tell me the numbers of the three fuel cells you have to pick up? I can't remember them and I may have picked up the wrong one. Embarassed
There are two required energy cells, one in Elysia next to Seekers and one in Pirate Homeworld in Command Courtyard. All the other cells are optional, so get whichever one you want. (the most in-the-way one is the one on the Valhalla, though)
I thought there was a third somewhere...oh well, that means I don't have to reset.
Anywhere, everywhere
Isn't the one in the gf base in bryyo required?
not evil,just hungry
no, that lowers the forcefield blocking the orange door. The only thing back there are some expansions and the path to get energy cell 4.

Funny thing about those vids. When I saw the first one, I was like... you never even came close to dying? What's the problem? Then I saw the other vids, and I was wondering about the gray portion of the health bar, and then it hit me. THAT was your maximum health; the bar doesn't fill faster with less tanks, it gets shorter! Your 1 tank bar was so small I either missed it or ignored it as an encoding artifact!

A few notes based on your 2 tank boss fight vids, however... if you've already changed some of this, oh well.

-During the Dark Samus fight, you seem to waste a lot of time going after clones and yet not actually killing them before DS brings them back, which kind of makes the whole enterprise pointless. If you don't do better on the 1 tank run, I'd suggest targeting the real DS in a lot more situations.

-So, the missiles don't help at ALL during Aurora? Not even against a stunned first form? Second form I understand because it's hard to hit with a missile but, is the charge beam just better?

I think I have an idea for '5-eyed freak.' If you point the wiimote away from the screen, after a couple seconds, it centers the gun, with no threat of moving 'out of range.' I can't test it, as I just finished my Hypermode run, but that eliminates one of the variables. All that's left is to mash A like a madman.
Ok the new fights are up.. 1 tank now. Sorry for the hassle but didn't expect to clear it yesterday.

Phaaze (same as before)

Aurora 2

Everybody: thanks for the advice and discussion. I did some of the things that were mentioned, but there's still at least a few improvements that could be made. I'd still want to encourage discussion, especially about different approaches to fighting DS.

Nate: didn't know that about the left channel. >.> As for low% being awesome, depends. The end is "awesome" cuz of the time limit thing, but waiting 2 days to get refills from a boss after using hyper.. because it's the only way to damage him, is not awesome. :P Ridley is really bad about that, but there are others.

Yoshi: I think the clones retain their damage the next time they come out, but that wasn't the only reason. With 1 tank, I don't feel good about relying only on ice pillars for refills. It seems like a lot of times you don't get any from them. But you're right, it did take forever since I focused so much on clones, even deliberately killing one before shooting down DS when she recharges. I don't know what the best approach is.. I just tried to get through it.

As for missiles, I don't remember trying them much (cept on DS), but the problem is if you use missiles, you start to get missile refills, and that's not good. Although on aurora1 specifically, I think missile refills would be ok since there doesn't seem to be much danger of dying as long as the laser doesn't get you.

Btw.. I timed how long it takes to die again. After seeing the aurora2 vids, I was thinking maybe the game goes easy on you if you continue, and you get more time to live. So I loaded my file, landed on phaaze, waited till I died in the first room then continued but still only had 1:30 to live.

I don't understand why I didn't die in aurora2, despite taking around 1:50 to win plus even getting hit once. Maybe you drain slower once you reach DS, or it's only for that fight, but seems unrelated to continuing..

It resets your health if you die to DS. So that might explain it a bit.
I don't follow.. the refills from aurora's first form death reset your health too (unless maybe you were almost dead), but what I'm trying to say is that you're only supposed to have 1:30 to live on one tank.

Yet, you can take longer than that to beat the final form for some reason.. I don't know if it applies to the other bosses too since I always get refills before then. But I never see any refills during the head.

I see what you mean now. I think it does indeed take longer to corrupt during that phase. Possibly a 'pity move' on the part of Retro: "You're awesome enough to kill Dark Samus with one tank. Now don't die on the Aurora!"
Your forgetting that each time you shot, you drain a little phazon.
Also when I followed the links the vids looked like you had 2 tanks in them, did you upload the wrong vids?

You don't on Phaaze.

Are we sure you don't? Obviously it has a lot less of an effect than normal if it does, but... might as well see.
I'm pretty sure it does, even if it does fill up at a rate faster than can be discharged by shooting. I'm almost at phaaze on my 100% Hypermode run (I've been taking it slow) so I'll test it there, if no one beats me to it.
The game states in its OMG PHAAZE CORRUPTION messages that weapons no longer use any of your phazon meter thing when firing.
needs to be tested.

also could be slowdown (don't laugh - we suspect this is why we still can't time prime 1 runs properly).
Messed around just a bit more this morning with hyper phaaze, trying to refine strats.. so I will just throw out some random tidbits that were noticed.

Phaaze: The infant can be killed before he changes sides. Just kill the metroids quickly, rip off the thing then hit him with 3 fully charged shots (no partials). This makes the end of my vid look like utter crap, but oh well. My opinion now is that the 5 eye monster is the most annoying part.. if your button mashing ability isn't 100% at that moment, he hits you and you die.

Oh yeah, the red ground in the room after him doesn't need missiles, even though IIRC the scan says explosive blast. Just mash or use a charged shot.

Dark Samus: After yoshi asked about it, tried missiles on this boss and others. They destroy ice pillars in one hit. May be good if you're desperate for refills. Other than that they don't seem very good though. It takes 4-5 missiles just to stop DS from recharging, yet it takes maybe a third of a charged shot. Yet, it takes forever to destroy an ice pillar with your beam.. I guess things have resistances to different weapons or something. Also tried screw attack to stop her recharging.. IIRC it damages slightly but not enough to stop it, and you bounce also.

Aurora: Missiles kill a DS clone in one hit, but they have so little health that I'm not sure it's worth it, especially at range. Missiles on aurora are not good, you get more just mashing or charged shot then mash. Screw attack damages him when armor is ripped off, but not much. Did not try screw attacking the face when it turns yellow after killing a tentacle. Still don't really see a way to cut it down to 4 knockdowns.

Also, yes you can get an instant knockdown if you shoot that one thing that comes out of him, then hit him enough times. The problem is shooting that thing doesn't give refills.. but tentacles do. So while you could in theory go for a very fast fight by ignoring the tentacles, I don't know if it's a good idea to try and live off DS clone refills alone.

Aurora 2: I did manage to stun him with screw attack during the spin phase as mentioned on the first page. It only worked once though. Maybe it only works if you hit the weak spot.. if that's the case, that's a bit dangerous for 1 tank hyper, at least if you're low on health.

The quad laser continues to be the big nuisance of this fight.. not really sure what's a good way to handle it besides staying under him in ball mode (but you lose any chance to damage him). I haven't tried screw attacking while he's in the air, so I don't know what would happen. I don't know if you can get the height to reach him without a bs jump.

He's pretty random.. I've seen him do the quad laser as his first attack before. But in both vids, he didn't do it for quite a while. He always seems to do it eventually though. I guess I should have just played it cool instead of trying to finish him off in the 1 tank vid, but I got kind of unlucky in that he lived through the charge shot with an empty bar. Once he started spinning again, the first shot killed him. =\
