I think if he just posted the video and was like "hey look at this cool thing I did", and didn't throw in comments about how he's a real man who actually -fights- Quadraxis instead of walking around him, then the response would have been a lot different

i can definitely understand the perspective of someone who watches speed runs to be entertained and doesn't care for watching tons of oob stuff, so i think that's where he's coming from. it's a valid opinion that maybe wasn't worded in the best way because he's writing on a forum. but jesus fuck you guys are awful (i don't mean you specifically parax)

basically what i see is a guy posts something cool, then everyone attacks one random opinion he also threw out rather than talking about his video. that pisses me off so much. the guy put a lot of work into this - if you don't have anything to say about the video you should probably shut up. golden rule and all that.

Yes, it sucks people are talking about a random opinion he threw out instead of the video, but he put that random opinion in his post for people to respond to in the first place. Suppose someone posted in the Metroid Prime board that they did a natural route run, and they put a lot of work into it and it was pretty good... but then he randomly mentions in his post how he thinks sequence breaks are cheating and he'd much rather do legitimate runs that don't break the rules. It would get a similar type of response because when you post an opinion about something on a forum, you're opening it as a discussion topic, and people are going to discuss/post disagreements.

that's true, i just don't think it's as big of a deal as everyone is making it out to be. or even a big deal at all.

it's people's need to feed their egos that causes them to reply to stuff like that, when it really does not matter. i get that it's hard, but let's try to have some self control. you don't always have to reply to something you disagree with. it's pointless and unconstructive in threads like this. we all understand oob's place in speed running. there's nothing to be gained from berating some poor newb for stating his not very well thought out opinion.

One more note, you guys keep replying too fast. About me being a noob: Well i am not THAT terrible. I can skip SOME items in Echoes with wallcrawling, and ofc do the easy ILS and know all that stuff.
I just do not know much about the mechanics. Like, i merely watch wallcrawling videos and reproduce what they do to perform them. I am not new to Echoes speedrunning, just not up to date, because with new runs, i tried to watch them at some point, but i can never watch more than 5 minutes without being uninterested.

YES! excactly, thank you. i knew that's how you meant it. completely agree that most people in the metroid boards are way too serious here.

also i never called you a "noob", at least not meant in in that way. i called you a newb, which was only meant to indicate that you're relatively new to echoes running (which must be true if you don't know much about oob). sorry for the confusion.

ahh i do think the whole "real man" joke might be more of a european thing (k.man does it too) that americans might not recognize as easily, though. that could be why so many people took offense to it, but just a guess.
