I keep trying to look at videos that was linked to archive and they all say that they require Divx to download.  Now.. I do have Divx but when I click on one of the Divx downloads (one segement of a speed run), it starts to stream the video with quicktime and doesn't work.  How do I download it so I can view it on Divx?

btw is their a technical difficulties forum cause I can't seem to find one.  I thought this was the best place to post this.
Thread title:
in the name of justice!
i assume you're using a mac (i saw this happen on my brother's computer once, though i didn't stick around for the resolution).

technically sda is more what you're looking for though nate surely knows what to do ;p
I know very little about this kind of stuff, but this is what I did when I wanted to watch stuff using divx:

I downloaded the file and placed it in the "movie" file within the "divx" file within "program files".
I manually opened the "divx" file, selected the divx player, went to the list of movies, and then chose the file I wanted to see.

Hope that helps...
DivX should have an "Open URL" feature. Simply copy and paste the URL into that and it will begin to load it, allowing you to watch it while it loads. That's if you want to use DivX Player at least. I usually use VLC or WMP to watch online videos.

Edit: And hey, VLC gets "censored" into a link for you if you need it. <_<;

Edit2: As not to spam, I'll just edit this in response to the second paragraph of the post below.
...
Yeah, I just didn't know it did that to VLC as well. I had only seen SCU and a few others.
Two things:

1.  If you want to download a movie file that will normally play in your browser, either hold down option and click the link (if you're a Mac user) or bring up the contextual menu (right-click for all of you PC users) and choose Save target as…

2.  VLC "censoring" is a phpBB mod called Smart Tags.  Check out the Smart Tags link at the top of the page for more information on what gets linked.  It's for those things that people don't want to spend their time making links to over and over again.
option+click on the link to the video you want to download. this will download it to your desktop. then either double click on the file, or right (ctrl) click on the file and go to open with, then find another video player to open it in. you can also open the video player (e.g. vlc) first, then go to file:open and open the file that way. i think quicktime is a fine player though, so there's usually no reason to use vlc unless you have a slow machine and quicktime is playing the video poorly (vlc works better than quicktime on slower machines).

and yeah, this is the de facto m2k2 sda tech support forum, so you asked in the right place.

edit: thanks to shit connection usb beat me. everything he said is right.
Thx for all the help but one of my friends told me just to try it with internet explorer (instead of firefox) before I got to look at your reply's and his idea worked.. thanks for the reply's though  grin new
