I just did an any% 'real time' tas to see what the best time would be theoretically if everything went right with good luck. I got 25:49 with 23% of items collected. The luck in this run is near perfect, so unless something new is discovered I doubt sub 26 is possible in a non TAS. I'll have the run uploaded tomorrow if Thomas can upload it then. I can't upload it myself =(.
An interesting result, for sure. You can bet I'll be scrutinizing the run, looking for every little improvement I can find. :P The 26:43 made me feel like sub 26 should be possible (if perhaps not by much), but I don't know, maybe I'm finally at the point where I'm overestimating the amount of possible improvement in my runs.

Also, sam, regarding the stealth strat: is that consistent? And if it is, is it the jump off of the platform that makes it so? I've had that happen dozens of times over the years completely unintentionally, and I never could tell what caused it.

Lastly, congrats to Ramen, kirby, and sam on 56:18, 53:51, and 27:46!
Woop woop, got a 54:16 100%. Really happy with this run, there were a few mistakes that cost me around 5 seconds each, but nothing really big. Could probably break 54 if I got a great run, but that might take a while.
35:16 any% hard ss. I am sure I can break 34 with this, and maybe I can break 33 with a really good run. I'm not sure how much better than that I can get without some insane luck manipulation though since I need to play safe in ss. I made some ugly mistakes in this run including messing up the last super tank in Brinstar 3 times (I have no idea how >_>) and messing up hbj a few times. I am getting more consistent with any% hard though at least.
Do you have a video of your any% hard mode route?

I don't. I'll try to start recording soon, but it's really only a Kraid first route collecting more expansions. As far as tanks go though I get pretty much anything even vaguely on the way. I try to get 36/4 by Tourian and 36/6 in Chozodia. The extra super tank I get is the one we'd get right before Tourian in Ridley first. I also collect 4 energy tanks, but I might start skipping one of them since there's not as much of a demand for that than the other 3. I can't really upload things right now either because my internet is stupid -_-, but I'll make a quick tas to show you what I am doing if anyone cares to run hard mode.
I think I'll go try out a hard mode any% run sometime soon
Alright, I am making a quick TAS as we speak. It should be done by tomorrow, so you should get on skype around then so I can send you the file =P.
Tiny any% PB in a race this morning, 30:24. I'd like to cut 60 seconds off this at some point in the future.
So I'm finding that it's really easy to get a lead on the 50:58 early on. Most of my attempts today had 1:58 to 2:00 or so at the end of the hive room and still managed to be 5+ seconds ahead of the 50:58 before Kraid. One of my attempts was 15 seconds ahead before Kraid, and it still wasn't exactly amazing; a really good but completely realistic run could probably be 20ish seconds ahead. This is essentially what I expected since a lot of the big mistakes in that run happened near the beginning, but it's still pretty encouraging.

I like knowing you can save time at the beginning haha :P

At the same time, the beginning is the hardest part of AWS 100% route <_<

I saved it before I got to print screen the + and -, but overall a run I'm reasonably happy with :) There aren't any major significant mistakes besides a bad kraid fight. There are a lot of smaller mistakes, and 2 missed space boosts.
Was that with AWS or what? Early Norfair Super, Early Imago? Late Long? Sick time regardless, man, that's gonna be tough to match! But I'm definitely getting some motivation to improve my PB now :P

It was with spidey's route.

-Acid Worm Skip + Late Kraid Cleanup
-Early Norfair Super
-Late Imago
-Late Long + Ice Beams

Yeah, sam said he'll start grinding out 100% attempts if I beat his time, and I did :P As I said, I'm kinda happy with this run as there are no major mistakes at all besides a bad Kraid fight. Also, I forgot to mention, I got the norfair shinespark through the pillar room before wave beam (yeah, seriously), AND I was skyping with jaggerg + sam at the time, and I felt like YOLO-ing, so I got the escape space boost... uh yeah, this run is filled with swag <_<

It's mostly just the kraid fight + minor mistakes that added up to 2 minutes of time lost compared to spidey's run.

EDIT: Oh yeah, my mother brain fight sucked too. Meh. Still nothing as bad as say, missing HBJ or missing the e-tank after getting the suit back.
53:04. 95% of a great run, 5% utter crap. Mother Brain was just a complete disaster! Fell in the lava right off the bat three times in a row, and this just screwed up my rhythm. I had Supers selected when I thought I had regulars, so ended up tinking two of them. Still not skipping Chozodia refill. Pretty good clean-up, outside some small mistakes, and by and far the best Mecha I've ever had... seriously, when do you not tink a single Super? Imago Cocoon was pretty bad too, I think I'll stop doing the water-hopping double missile strat and just start doing singles from the middle platform. I got cold feet in Ridley, and didn't go for the second diagonal spark. Also, missed breaking the missile block after Imago, but managed to salvage the spark by going back to Imago room for a refill. That's the complaints and highlights I can remember off the top of my head.

Early Long, Early Charge, Early Norfair Super, Early Imago, Late Kraid clean-up, no AWS.

Yay. 7:53 after Kraid, 28:04 after first escape, 52:37 in the end. Missed the pillar room spark, had a sloppy start, which was made salvageable by a 2-round Charge Worm, didn't get enough drops to go for Early Imago, and as a result I had to recharge for Supers before Tourian. Skipped the second diagonal spark in Ridley, again. Made a weird mistake during clean-up, and opened the door for the last E-tank early, which lead to me accidentally refreshing the room, after already breaking the Speed Booster blocks. Mecha Ridley could've been better. Also, still not skipping Chozodia charge station at the start of Stealth, and I actually have less of an incentive to do this, since the RNG-manipulation strat for the Guardian works wonders for me.

Beyond those, really solid. Best Kraid fight I've ever had, one of the best Tourians I've ever had, really good luck with all of the bugs.

I had the game paused for like 10 minutes after getting my gear back (I was eating), and I seriously considered just dropping the fast version of the E-tank spark at the start of clean-up, and doing it safe... but then I ultimately decided against it, cause it's not something I should be failing, even though the last run I had completely burned because of it :P

EDIT:

Same route as above. Late Brinstar clean-up too.
52:33. I had 28:13 after first escape, but I thought it was awful and yolo'd suitless. I forgot to heal and had 4 supers going into Tourian. I had two super drops only and had to farm for a super drop against green rinkas ;_;. l I messed up one shinespark and play sloppy in general in the first half. I am doing something slow in the second half also, but I don't know what =/.
Sam will not tolerate this affront to his standing on the leaderboard. :P

Congrats to you three on sub 53!
This frickin' guy. Won't let me enjoy my #2 spot even for a day.

Honestly if they beat my record again I think I'm going to try to ignore it and work on any% ss and hard any% stuff <_<;.

Ugh, so, I've been playing a bit of the last segment of my half-assed 100% speedrun, gradually getting my time lower and lower. It's going slower than I expected. Just got 53:03 with a botched escape break block/save spark and a ton of little mistakes (I'm guessing). I should realistically be getting 52:25 assuming I had the same kind of segment you had, spidey, in your "old 100%" route (clean up via Norfair right and no late Kraid). That's almost 40 seconds! Sam said I'm probably losing about 1 second per room and I'm starting to believe that. =(
Woo, 36:23 for hard any%

horrible run, but lots to improve. It's really fun :)
53:42 100% SS. Plenty of time to save, sub 53 should be achievable. You guys have been leaving me in the dust lately, so I'm happy to have gotten my first PB in a long while :P
