No route, got Screw, not sure if it was a good idea.

NO route?  What did you do, just teleport from the first room to the last?

I hope you understand that I meant that I didn't follow any specific route, I just ran around making up where to go next while I was playing.
Here is the best route for any%, graveworm.

Morph Ball
(skip long beam)
Missiles
Bombs
Enter Norfair
Power Grip
Ice Beam
(ridley before kraid)
Super missile(the two right before ridley)
Kill ridley
Go to Kraid
(skip acid worm)
Kill kraid
Normal until power bombs
(power bomb skip)
End.

If you need help doing any of this, tell me.
I thought about that, but also, the beam being like twice as strong with long beam, or so it seems to me, all the things being easier to snipe and the hives at the way to bombs being alot faster, I think I'll stick to that one. Another exception from that route I make is getting high-jump boots and screw attack, I don't think it'll make my "run" faster, but it sure as hell makes things alot easier.

I think I follow that route exactly except of these things, and by the way, I pick up 3 Super missile expansions, 10 or 11 missile expansions and 3 energy tanks, I don't know what expansions to pick up, so if anyone has a map or something of what to pick up, I'd be glad if you could give me that. :)

And I'm too lazy to download and watch a speedrun, I think 29:14 was the record by transience or whatever he/she's calling him-/herself. So I'll try to make a single segmented 30:xx someday, if I have time.
You knoow to kill the hives without long beam? Stand as close to the edge as you can and then shoot like heck. Can save a couple seconds if you skip long beam.

I forgot to put high jump after killing ridley, but thanx for reminding me! :|
You don't need to get high jump, I don't really think it saves any time, but whatever, I know how to kill the hives without long beam, but it really sucks, since you spend 3 times as much time killing bugs than shooting at the hive.
High jump saves a lot of time (both escapes come to mind).
Actually, I found out a way to do the escape shortcut WITHOUT THE HIGH JUMP, and it almost works as good. :D After holding your charge and getting into the large room, let yourself fall about a block, then hold forward and press A. Now you will buzz through the large room and the next room, but stop at the morph ball passage.

awesome, I'm a girl now.

GameCube04 did a 31:01 SS, which is very, very, very good. my 29:14 (and his 29:54) are both heavily dependent on luck, particularly in the realm of super missile drops. segmented runs allow for the manipulation of luck, but single-segmented runs don't. I can do a 31:xx SS (I've only tried once, got to MR at 29:09 and had the worst fight you can ever imagine - that translates to about 31:00 assuming a decent escape). 30:xx would be very, very impressive and I'd like to see it if possible. I plan to record a SS any% run when I get my recording all squared away.

I collect 10 missiles, 3 super missiles, and 2 energy tanks (sometimes one, depending how crazy I'm feeling). hi-jump is an absolute necessity - it saves a second or two everywhere but it especially helps for the escape shinespark at the end. grab it after Ridley. screw attack is a waste of time, though it makes life easy.
Time bomb set get out fast!
I just started dropping Long Beam from my runs (it feels wrong somehow), and I have to admit it's true that the hive room is the only place you really notice.  But boy do you notice there.  I died time after time in that room last run.  Something I found very helpful was destroying the offscreen hive first with missiles.  There are two advantages to this: (1) you can collect the missile tank behind it and use those missiles on the next hive, and (2) destroying all three hives stops them from respawning, so you don't have to destroy one on the way back.  Grabbing the tank costs a couple of seconds, but it's still one of the quickest missile tanks in the game to collect and you get it early enough that it really helps, especially on Hard.

(The one case where I don't think this method is worth it is a run with early-as-possible Varia.  If you're doing that, you won't be passing through the hive room again, so the net time loss is greater.)

If you're still going to collect the Long Beam, graveworm, this shortcut will make your day.  The last block usually takes me a few tries (I do this in 100% runs), but it's worth it.

Any advice about the acid worm skip?  That's the only major speed trick I can't do yet, and it cost me about three minutes last time.

Study that vid and PRACTICE. I still have trouble with that trick some of the time.

yeah, if you're the type of person that gets easily frustrated with the cocoon room, the missile behind it is the way to go. if you have 8 missiles, you can kill them without ever wasting a shot. just make sure you don't hit a bug.

I do the cocoon room a completely different way, one that's extremely difficult and will drive most people nuts. GC04 made a video of it - let me grab it:

Finally finished hard mode! Sound test is awsone :D !!!
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Crazy stuff, trans.

Note the word almost. Now factor in how much it saves in the first escape.

actually, you shouldn't lose -that- much time on the escape. you can skip half of the first room using the mother brain shinespark, and from there you can pretty much just walljump up. if it were just the two escapes, the difference would be worth debating.

but it's not. think about all the jumps on the way to kraid that you'd lose time gripping, or having to freeze dudes. climbing brinstar would be slower, as you'd have to jump on every platform instead of every other one. you couldn't destroy the first two platforms on the zipline, as you wouldn't be able to make the jump. and chozodia would be just slow all over.
I do the Long beam shortcut, and if I fail, I just restart, it's like 1 minute into the game, at most. I pick up the screw since I played this game like what can it be, 10 times now? And the times I am most proud of is my 1:01:31 normal 100% SS and my 1:04:54 100% SS hard. I need to practice more before I can skip Screw and actually save time doing so, it makes and speeds up motherbrain fight, I can safely screw through the ship on my way to Mecha Ridley, and it's just 3 rooms after high-jump boots, so for me, it's a timesaver, I'll just practice SS any% runs, I finished one yesterday without picking up any energy tanks, so now I know I can do that, then I may not have to pick up any besides the one on the way to bombs.
OH MAN! It can't be possible that anyone except DD AJ or RS can beat my normal 100%! HOW did you do that!!!
If you mean me, then I watched DD's run about an hour earlier or two, and I tried to remember his route as good as I could, but I got lost after I picked up powerbombs, as usual, so that cost me very much time, but I played this game like 8-10 times through now, so I almost never fail on picking up an item or doing some sequencebreaking things.
RAPE! RAPE!
One shall stand, one shall ball.
But that's your job.
You must have used a code to slow down time. I mean, you just beat my Normal 100% time, which I was proud of, by 7 minutes and beat the existing WR by trancience.
I play on the gameboy advance sp, that's a picture from my recording.

Edit: I'm not sure if you understand this, but I played the game through like 10 times to do that, and I watched gamecube04's run while playing, and went the exact route, somehow, I managed to do it faster anyway.

Well, if you don't believe me, I respect that, you have the right to believe whatever you want, so I'll just remove that part of the post, the time is quite unbelieveable.

Btw, I look forward to Transience(spelling?) doing 28:xx run.
PAGE BREAKER
Ready and willing.
That's setting off my bullshit alarms quite nicely.
lol no way
And usually I'm the one to be super skeptic.
Which isn't to say I'm not.

wow, congratulations on the great time! you'll have to make a video - I'm curious to see how many savestates you needed!

I just did my first single-segment run - everything was going great until Tourian, where I got zero super missile drops (this is why a 29:11 SS is next to impossible - you can't manipulate luck in a single-segment), the rinkas wouldn't give me any for at least 30 seconds, and then I missed a super missile on mother brain, screwing me all up. other than that, though, a solid run - 31:14. coulda easily had 30:xx if not for the bad luck / me sucking.
