Well I'd hope he's watching DD's run... it is 100% normal after all. You should do a segmented one though DD, cause sometimes it IS nice to just be able to go to the part you want.
I've gotta see DD's SS, I think my brother downloaded it some time ago, it's really fast to get sub-hour singlesegment, since my time was 1:38, but anyways, I don't know the game, but judging off other peoples times, I've gotta say I think it's a really great time.
is there even a segmented 100% normal record? I've never seen one and have thus assumed the SS was the best thing going. and yeah, while I've seen all three runs, I generally use the SS one because it's normal and all in one segment.
28:xx is definitely possible - I only spent about two days on this run. it's very good, but not perfect. also, I can't double bomb jump, and that would help shave three or so seconds off at the power grip room alone. if I ever had the guts to go from Tourian to the end like GC04 does, my time would shoot down, but that escape is so touchy. I'd be spending weeks working on a perfect last segment.
wow, hey cool transience did you really get 0:29:14 in Metroid Zero mission?
If you really got that time, that would mean you beat Jason 'GameCube04' Baum's 0:29:54 record by 40 seconds. lol cool and did you really get that time at your first run? was that really your first run?
that'd be one hell of a first run. who knows how many I've done, but I should definitely give GameCube04 some love. without him, I would never have broken 30 minutes. he and I have talked quite a bit about our runs, and he's been uber-supportive of me breaking his record. I look forward to him breaking mine, and being able to see the resulting video. I really wish I could record.
heh, both aj and GC04 can probably beat my time. I haven't seen aj attempt a run in a good while, and GC04 is slowly driving himself insane while going for perfection. if GC04 simply wanted to beat my run instead of getting some ridiculously low time, it'd be over, and I bet the same is true of aj.

boy did that bring back memories. some people are bad ass speed runners, and then there's circa ... a cut above.
Quote from transience:

have you looked at the faq yet? i won't be able to buy you a game boy player atm unfortunately, even if you already have a cube ... kind of caught me at a bad time. :/ what is really lame is that shadowjedi is already next in line behind w.dawgs when he finishes with the wt gbp.
that means that buying you equipment is a top priority, but i can't even say i have more than about $10 to contribute at this juncture. i have some plans i'm working on to start generating more money off of the sites to pay for stuff like this at will, but atm i am still very much in debt from my trip to japan, and it looks like it will be at least a month before i am through with that business. therefore, we will need to discuss this situation more in depth.
well, here's my recording situation: I don't have a gamecube, I obviously don't have a GBP, I don't have a capture card or anything like that, and I don't even have a VCR. if I only needed one thing, I'd have bought it yesterday, but that's a lot to drop, you know?
Congrats on that time, transience! It is very impressive. I guess I should mention here that I redid my segment 4 or my 29:54 and got 29:34 with two saves in Chozodia, so it could still be 23 or so seconds lower if I didn't save at all. I won't bother trying that though since I'll be doing a completely new run, and will probably begin working on it today. Anyway, congrats again on breaking the WR. You've given me quite a low time to shoot for.
If you don't make any mistakes, your time will be better, yes, since you don't have to go to saverooms, but if you screw up, you'll have to do it again from the beginning.
Well, saving normally takes 5 seconds. However, in Chozodia the game automatically recharges you when you hit a save point, and that takes an extra 6 to 7 seconds, plus 5 for the save, you're sacrificing 11 to 12 seconds just to save at all in Chozodia. So single segmenting is faster than saving, but obviously you're bound to make mistakes if you go too far without saving at all. I can run Tourian to the end of the game at record speed without making mistakes, but it's just not worth it to do it from that save point since I'll only beat transience by a few seconds at best and since I plan on doing a new run anyway.
well, I save in chozodia because the escape is so touchy. what I do to cut down on the recharging thing is to save only if I haven't been hit so I only have to recharge the couple of missiles I've used to get there. this saves a few seconds. obviously, single-segment is the fastest possible way to do the entire game, but you're never going to nail the whole game like that. I've gone from mother brain to the end before (when I get hit in chozodia or when my time isn't really that good) only to botch the escape, and that's just frustrating, trust me.
Not to mention for any% runs there's quite a bit more randomness in temrs of missile drops than for a 100% run...in the Tourian especially. I honestly think a dual-segment run would be the fastest "sane" way to do any%. Only save being just before Mother Brain.
Victory dance! I unlocked a new ending -- 100% Normal in under 2:00. My time was 1:47. I'm going to go for the Hard counterpart next, and then I'll finally have to learn low-percent play so I can get the last two endings.
Does anyone know exactly how much harder Mecha Ridley is when you have 100%? I've beaten him on both difficulties before, but I'm practicing the Hard 100% version now and he's a lot tougher than I remembered.
