You're final segment couldn't be worse than any of my runs, my runs can get really bad a times.
Well, just managed to beat my old time:

Normal 100% Single Segment - 59:27

Didn't beat it by much, but I also had a LOT of mistakes this time around (some being fairly costly). Look for improvements in the near future  :D
lol no way
GC: Nope, not really, working on 100% hard segments, then when I finally get a new SP I'll record 10% hard SS again till I get it, then do 100% hard sub-hour. Then I'll start working on any% normal, then 100% normal SS, then 10% hard multi-seg.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Someone needs to bottle whatever AJ has, and sell it as an uber energy drink.
mmm ... kid juice.
I just had a pretty awesome single segment run that was unfortunately cut short.  I was trying the first segment for my new any% run and had a decent segment but not good enough to take for my run, so I thought I might as well see how fast I can single segment the game and just kept going.  I had some amazing luck (Super Missile refill at Ridley, good Mother Brain fight, perfect Tourian), and at the save point before you get your Power Suit back, I was just over 24:xx, which is just awesome.  My nerves started getting the better of me, and I died at the stupid statue boss.  I was recording the whole thing, and probably could have gotten 30:xx.  It's really frustrating to see such a great run come to and end on the last part of the game.  :x
makes me wonder what actors etc do to calm nerves like that. i always try to breathe in deep and relax, but it usually doesn't work and i die. :P

...gross, Nate. Shocked

Anyways, apparently, I haven't mentioned that I finally got my 36:00 15% For Some Reason Time Trial run. Go me.
normal? cool.
lol no way
Heh, the thing is, I basically have no life, and I'm not good at any games, for the most part, unless I play them constantly (MZM comes to mind..). Really though, it's just repeatedly getting in trouble and then recording runs when I'm not in trouble, since I can practice on my SP.
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
Oh yeah, I keep thinking your SP is unplayable until then..wonder what would happen then..*watches the news on tv if it happens*.
I was wondering what the record is for multi-segment 100% normal is, if there even is one.
lol no way
There's not a recorded one that I know of... although DaveB did do one on Emu like as soon as it came out, and, if I remember correctly, he had a really good time.
yeah, I think I remember that, and I think it was like 0:57:XX. Well, in my run, I think I'll get either 1:01 or 1:00. I'm saved at the first savepoint in chozodia with 35:29. When I record, I hope to get atleast 58:xx.
First was normal
3:12  64%
5:28  100%

fastest is on normal
36:42 31%

I have never tried to do a 100% speed run.
Newest Normal 100% single-segment: 58:11

Still a couple of mistakes to clean up but there really wasn't anything major this time. No tapes sent out until I get under 58 minutes  Twisted Evil

Good for you. In my run I can't seem to get past the stealth segment, and i've been trying for weeks. I don't know whats wrong, so i'm gonna take a break from ZM until i'm done recording my two fusion runs.
Well, I found the cause of why some of my runs suck. There seems to be a direct correlation between how well I perform and the temperature in my room. The hotter it is, the worse I do.

With it being moderately warm in here, I pulled a 58:24 somehow. Mostly the suck parts were all easy stuff this time. None of the Hard tricks gave me any problems, just all the rookie stuff...meh  Rolling Eyes

That's a new one, I've never heard of someone doing worse in a game due to heat, I usually do worse during the daytime, since I'm more of the nocturnal type hence my posting at 12:00 AM.
The heat mainly becomes a problem due to the fact that it causes my hands to sweat much more than normal, which causes control problems.

Granted, both times I got the record (59:35 in May, and the more recent 58:11) I was playing at about 4 AM. Maybe that has something to do with it too  Question

EDIT: Well, that disproves those theories. It was both cool in here and it was aout 4 AM and all 3 runs I attempted sucked hardcore. Back to the drawing board I guess  :(
I'm so close to abandoning my any% run and never playing this game again.  For some reason I can't get a good last segment for the life of me.
i'd say the last segment in zm is one of the most stressful (except for maybe the first). i know i avoided running zm due to how stressful it looked, and daveb decided the same thing and went back to fusion.

only constructive thing i can tell you is to not let it get to you ... i don't really practice what i preach, but i think you might be surprised how good you are if you come back some other time. i've noticed that i seem to do certain things better on certain (seemingly random) days, such as appreciate music, appreciate my girlfriend, play games ... it might just not be your day (or series of days). they say your brain is working all the time on what you've experienced, even while you're asleep, so i guess that might help explain why you could actually be better if you came back later.

like i said, i don't necessarily practice what i preach, especially if a deadline is approaching or something, but in your case, no one is hurrying you, and we will cheer you on, read every word you post and try to help you with whatever you need - regardless of success or failure.

good luck.
least coherent inspirational speech ever.
Wow, thanks Nate.  :)  That made me feel a lot better.  I agree about the last segment being the most stressful, and it doesn't really help me out that I'm trying to go from Mother Brain to the end of the game.  I've had so many good runs ruined by that shinespark in the escape (charging the shine and breaking the block at the same time), and that's really tough to swallow every time that happens.  My 29:54 was close to perfect up until that point, but I messed it up and proceeded to mess up the black pirate trick for a craptastic 3:14:xx escape.  I had another run (29:52) where my escape was close to perfect, but I did Chozodia horribly.  I'd say I've had 5 or 6 near perfect runs ruined by the escape shinespark without exaggerating.  This was driving me so insane to the point where I decided to save after getting the Powersuit back like aj did, and ended up with a 25:03 save there (one minute faster than aj).  That still could have been 8 seconds faster, but I felt pretty good about it and started trying my last segment from there.  Unfortunately, the VCR I'm recording on is very old and when it starts recording, it likes to backtrack a good 5 to 10 seconds before actually recording.  For this reason I always put a lot of time in between segments to avoid anything getting cut off.  Well, for whatever reason it backtracked a good 30 seconds when I tried to record my last segment, thus cutting off a bit of the previous segment.  This really made me angry, and I nearly quit my run after that.  This happened 3 days ago, and tonight I decided to try and finish it from my old Mother Brain save.  2 1/2 hours later, I had two more runs killed at the escape shinespark, which nearly made me lose it.  This is probably one of the most frustrating things I've ever had to go through in a video game.  If I could ever actually manage a perfect last segment, I'd have somewhere between 29:1x to 29:2x.  Maybe I'll take a short break from this game and come back and see what I can do.

Sorry about the rant.
the primary purpose of this forum is what you just posted. ;)

about the vhs, did you eject the tape before that incident? i've found that old vcrs love to aggressively back up when you put tapes in, for reasons unknown to me, and yes, i've had a few recordings ruined by that, so i feel your pain. if your vcr has a flying erase head ... well, it was probably pretty disgusting to see it mutilated like that regardless of how it was done.

battery's about to die so i just want to say good luck again.
