Thanks. Nice to hear from someone so established on the ZM scene ;)
The Mecha-Ridley & Mother Brain owned me for quite a while since I entirely skipped Super Missiles & got 3 standard missiles + 3 E. Tanks + Long Beam instead :)
Meh, long beam is a good choice, helps a lot for every normal enemy... getting supers is also a good choice, but getting all missiles would be a good challenge I suppose.
What is a 15% run and how to do you (generally) go about doing it?
I figure it's pretty much only getting 15% of items in the game but how many non-essential items can you collect on top of the 'musts' (morph ball, bomb, missile)
MB doesn't need to be any easier. Even on hard 15% she's pretty darn simple if you know the "right side of left platform" trick. However, does screw attack make Robo Ridley much easier? 'Cause I just can't kill him. Got 2 e-tanks, 3 supers and the hi-jump, since there's no way I could've gotten out of Tourian in a minute without it.
Well if you just crouch in the down-left corner, Ridley ain't that hard. Just don't hold down the L button when you're jumping over the lasers 'cause he usually tries to swap you right after that. And you need to crouch fast then :)
The problem is that ol' Iron Ted enjoys linking up his attacks, so if I were to jump over the lasers, I'd find him shooting missiles at me at the same time, and then swiping me just for the hell of it. Boy, I wonder how Sess feels about this guy, seeing how he's chock full of gooey random goodness.
Ok, but worth giving up 50 life points for? If I'm going to restart, that's what I'd be skipping.
Oh yeah, in Hard that 50 simply doesn't really matter. The pirates do a hundred each, and when you have the screw attack, you only die from getting hit with a laser into the claw.
Ok, but if I find this more impossible than my current run, it'll be your head!
EDIT: Ok, I'm in Tourian now, with 3 Supers, high jump, and screw attack. So far, it doesn't seem to be too much harder, though there was little room for error on Ridley. I guess I'll be at Robo Ridley's save point by tuesday. I'll see how it goes from there!
I managed to complete my first sub-2 hours run today.
Difficulty: Normal Time: 1:56:07 Percentage 100%
This was with practically no Sequence Breaking though I did get the Varia kinda early. But not extremely early. And quite a bit of item searching 'cause I forgot about 10% on my way through it :D And couldn't figure out where they were since none of them were to be seen on the map :)
I don't remember exactly where, but if you don't take the Power Grip, a barrier appears and does not let you advance (I think it was at Norfair, but I'm not sure), and disappears when you pick it up. So that makes it a Must-Get item.
I don't think the Power Grip is a 'must get' item... or the Ice Beam.... I could be wrong though
Power grip:
A barrier, which is normally eaten by the little leeches, dissapears only when you have this one. It is located in the big room in norfair, from the elevator: 2 right.
Ok yoshi, now I've gotten my full-power suit and working through Chozodia. MB was easier, I guess. I didn't have to recharge using the left platform, I just kept leaping from left to right and back. Now for the moment of truth: to see if 149 energy will be enough for RR, or the truncated escape sequence afterwards...
