How the heck do you shoot so FAST, Radix? That's pretty much the only way you can get through the hive room without the long beam, and I can't even do the long beam shortcut...

I get close to it, fire alot them jump down because I am being chased by those annoying bugs. I jump and fire more shots and go around again and again.

That sounds slower than getting the long beam...  :?

You're complementing my bug hive room? That's the worst part of the run!  I fire so fast by having a fast thumb ... comes from 20 years of playing video games.  It's still not enough for some of the 'press the button really fast' schemes like animal crossing and banjo tooie though.

Well, you can speed up the process on the second one by firing missiles at it.

Oh man, Banjo-Tooie... that's the only time I've ever had to stoop to a turbo controller. *shudder*

Well, I'm missing something, because I try to get the missle tank, and the dang flies get me to either dead or 10 energy.

You got to run from the flies and when they are behind you, go back and hit the hive more(If that is too hard, kill the flies)
Radix, first off I want to congratulate you on a very solid and impressive run.  I picked up a few little things here and there from it, but overall our runs are very similar.

I went ahead and compared our times for our common save points (I apologize in advance for how crappy this chart is going to look).

Save Point..................GC04's Time...................Radix's Time
Norfair...............................6:13................................6:47
After Ridley.......................11:04..............................11:54
Tourian.............................19:29..............................18:47
Before Mother Brain..........21:02..............................20:11
Chozodia..........................23:15..............................22:49
Before Power Suit.............27:33..............................27:24
Final Save.........................31:52..............................31:56
Final Time..........................34:29.............................34:43

Based on this, I think it is fairly safe to conclude that not getting Screw Attack (but getting High Jump) is faster than getting it.  I was 50 seconds ahead of you after Ridley, but then at Tourian I was 42 seconds behind (thus taking the Screw Attack about 1:32 to pick up).  I then slowly made the time up at Mother Brain and Chozodia, but theoretically I could have kept most of that 50 second lead had I not gotten Screw Attack (the only place I see where it really saves a lot of time is in Chozodia where there are screw attack blocks but you have to go around them if you don't have it.  Still, it can't take more than 10 seconds to go around, so skipping Screw Attack appears to be well worth it).

Also, from the looks of it, it looks like it is faster just to fight Ridley with 2 supers and hope for a quick refill than to backtrack and get the other super expansion (I have not tested this yet, it just seems a bit faster).  I will test this on my next run to have a definite answer.

I am certain now that I can get a solid low 33:xx time now (maybe even 32 if everything is perfect).  I will get the High Jump but skip the Screw Attack, as that seems to be quite a bit faster.  Once again, congrats on a very impressive speed run, and wish me luck on my upcoming run!

If you're referring to the last cheeto page, in cloud coo-koo land, that's the one I could never get.  Finally after doing about 50 shirt shifting methods of rapidly tappy A to get gracie shirts in Animal Crossing, and I was replaying BT I figured maybe I had a chance.  And I actually got it!  I had to do really really fast shirt shifting and every 30 seconds or so pause the game and take a break for a few minutes because it wore me out !

back to metroid...

Is this just because of my crappy hive room and getting the 2nd super in ridley's lair?

But it'd be ever faster if those fireballs that gave me missile refills both gave me super refills, and then I could shoot 8 supers at him!  I estimate it's 22 seconds to go back and get that missile and super.  The ridley fight lasts 11 seconds after I pick up the missile refills ... so a magic 2x super refill would only gain 8 seconds, so that makes it 14 seconds slower.... unless having the extra super makes tourian better, because I'm guessing you only have 2, and then 4 for mecha?

Yeah I feel the same, but as mentioned I won't try again... good luck on yours !
Quote from Radix:

Well my hive room takes about 16 seconds, which is quite a bit faster than yours, plus the 22 seconds saved from not backtracking in Ridley to get the extra super.  The other 12 seconds probably just come from little speed tricks and no missed jumps (although I did have a few).

Nope, I have 4 supers for Tourian, and 6 for Mecha.

I think when I get to Ridley on my next any% run, I'm going to try facing him with 2 supers and getting two super refills.  That's probably the best way to take him out, although it will take a lot of luck.

What's the other super that you get then ?
I('d) like to watch (some MP3 runs)
What's up with those times? According to that, you go back in time and stuff.

Before Mother Brain..........27:33..............................20:11
Chozodia..........................23:15..............................22:49
Before Power Suit.............27:33..............................27:24

I think its supposed to be 20:33 but ill let Gamecube answer
Hard, 1:53, 69%.
Crap, must have typed in the wrong time.  My Mother Brain time is supposed to be 21:02.  I'll go back and edit that post so it makes sense now.

I get the Super in Brinstar that you have to ballspark to on my way up to Tourian.

You know, ballspark really is a funny word.  Props to whoever first used it to describe a morphed shinespark.

You get that on the way from kraid to tourian?  Seems like a waste of time ... unless you can get it from the blue shaft ??

As far as I know, it was I who started calling it a ball spark, but in this day and age, who knows if I was first.  *shrug*
Im new to the forums, but ne ways heres 3 of my runs:
time, %, diff.

1:05.59    54  easy
1:04.01    49    normal
2:43.78    66    hard

I hate the mb on hard mode, takes so many energy tanks to kill for me. Rolling Eyes

Skipped wave beam on normal, how i got a lower run.

My next run was Hard, 2:01, 73%, because the first time I beat it on Hard I had 100% items.  Needed the sub-100% ending.
I got 1:36 and 56% compleate normal

You've got to imagine what this sounds like to someone who has no clue what you're talking about.  We could be talking about transmission repair for all I know.
Radix, if it's alright with you, I think I want my 34:29 run to be captured.  The reason is that I'm not going to have that much time to play in the next few weeks, so it will take a while before my next speed run is done.  Let me know if this is alright and when we could possibly do it.
1:56:14
100%
Easy
Now to repeat that on Normal and Hard modes...
