But how do you get screw attack when you've gone to ridley first? You need speed booster to take the tunnel left and the booster up to it..... you'd have to up from the bottom right of norfair to reach the hi jump's entrance, go left to get hj, continue left to reach screw and then head back right.... seems like it would take 2 minutes!

You could get it on the way down to Ridley as well.

Nope. In the room where you need to bust through with the Speed Booster, in the ceiling block directly above the floor block right next to the right wall, there's a hidden passage uncovered by missiles. Once you blast the missile blocks outta the way, you can simply IBJ or IWJ to get up there and get the Screw Attack. I always pick it up before Kraid, 'cuz it makes my life easier down there. :P

The [S]s indicate the Screw Attack blocks, the [B]s indicate the Speed Booster Blocks, the [D]s indicate the doors, and that lone M over there is the lone Missile Block on the ceiling that you can blast through to get to the upper room. :) Hope that helps. :)

w00t, wasn't even playing for speed, just another run trough, to see how much tanks I would forget if I just ran trough the game :P
(this is just waltzing trough, no running back after getting the powerbombs :P)

Finally finished this run up tonight (it was the first chance I had to play in days). I believe this is the new WR on a GBA! I have the entire run on tape. Radix, if you want to I can give you the tape for you to capture it.

I can probably get sub 34 with a better run. There were some really sloppy parts in this run, but overall I'm happy with it. TRH, I'm really curious as to what you did on your 29:14 run. I know savestates were used, but still, I didn't think it could drop that low.

The timing of your post is very ironic. I decided to start recording an any % run tonight because nate doesn't want to start a high score list until there's at least a few recorded runs in each category. I figured no way i'd beat your unfinished run.... I was taking a lot of crap at a few points and adding too many saves. I kept on playing though, I made it to tourian at 18:47 I think and took over an hour to get decent luck with refills. My hands were starting to hurt and it was after 2 am but I kept going and finished it.... got a time of 34:43 with 26%. The only real change since my 38:46 was adding hi jump and the nearby missile. Still no screw attack. I recorded the whole thing, it's currently 13+ GB of files that I'll need to cut out and compress before I can upload anywhere. At least you beat me by 14 seconds ... but I could probably get that with a perfect last seg :?

Nice time, Radix. That's pretty sick that you got to Tourian with 18:47! I thought my 19:29 save there was good. What strategy do you use for Ridley? That's the only place I see that you could have gained a lot of time on me, unless there is some shortcut I don't know about or something. I think I'm going to cut down on the number of missile pickups I get as well in my next run. Also, how do you take care of the two black pirates at the end of the game? I just used the no hit strategy, but I'm sure it's faster just to take them out normally, right?

I have some ideas on what I could do better on my next run already (probably saving 30 seconds worth).

Would you be te'ed off at me if I put up my 34:43 in the next few days? We can still put up yours since it's faster but for now I can't capture it unless you drive up here and bring your vcr too, so you'd have to mail it to nate but he's swamped with 3 other runs he'll need to capture. Yeah, I did get the screw attack. I guess getting screw attack is slightly faster then, unless you think you'd be able to beat my time with a more perfect run or something.

You had 4 supers for Ridley? So did you fight the giant wasp to get the first super missile expansion? I usually just skip it and pick up the super pack right before Ridley. My Ridley strategy is to fire my 2 supers at him, then go under him so he does his tail bouncing thing that doesn't hit you. Then I fire all my missiles under him while hoping to get at least one super refill from the things he shoots at you. I'm not sure if it's faster to use this strategy or just to go fight the giant wasp for the two extra supers, maybe I'll test this on my next run.

I wouldn't be mad at all if you put up your 34:43. I'd actually be pretty excited to watch it to compare my run with yours. I will probably try another any% run soon though and try to get 33:xx.

Wow, I didn't even know there was a super expansion over there. Then again, I haven't even done a 100% game yet, so there are probably lots of expansions I don't know about :?

I suppose I'll just wait for a 33 run to upload it. My 34:29 was good, but still some room for improvement, so I'll wait.

I'm looking forward to watching your run. Let me know when it's finished uploading, I'll definately watch it asap.

Yay! Wait... stupid AVIs. Quicktime doesn't want to play Divx AVIs, and neither WMP or the Divx Player has a fast foward button that actually works. Now I actually have to sit through the "Got item!" and cutscenes... Oh well.

gah, in zero mission? how impatient can you get?? whatever you do, don't download the "with story" version of my run...might cause you to spontaneously combust. ;P

and i forget, are you on a mac or windows? if windows i don't know what to tell you, but if you're on a mac you should definitely reinstall divx, because quicktime plays them spectacularly.

Meh, I had just gotten used to it. Quicktime works fine with all your .mpgs, just not Radix's .avis. Besides, it's funny hearing everything in fast motion... then hitting rewind and hearing everything backwards.

I'm wondering why Radix never picked up the charge beam when goes back through the area. I understand not waiting for it to explode, and I understand that you slow down a teensy bit when you jump, but you'd probably make up for it here and there with the somer-screw-charge-thingy.

And man, I didn't know the Meta-Ridely fight could be as short as Kraids...

i don't see how divx could cause more complaints than quicktime has. divx at least doesn't beg for money/come with a hobbled player until you give it money. and yes, the quality is the best yet, obviously.
