Still no gbp, but, I got bored.

Oh, and I cant be bothered making the pic smaller, so be wary when quoting.
Shocked You were bored enough to set a new world record?!? Methinks you have just a little too much time on your hands. Congrats.
Damn, Dave.  Nice time.

My first 100% on Normal was 1:59:25.  Talk about rushing.
Well done Dave, well done.  Now just get a sub 2 minute hard 100% and you'll be good to go.  I actually wouldn't put it past you, after all, you are "teh god"

On my GBA, no digital camera though.  My personal best speed run ever :D :D :D

I'm probably a little too freakin giddy about it, but meh :P
Hey, I just trashed Hard mode with 100% in 2:12:39.  Not bad for my second playthrough, 'eh?

Of course, I can do much better.  I refuse to use an emulator, and the thing about consoles is that you ignore little mistakes.  You ignore the fact that the missle tanks in Ridley took you more than one try, because you're relieved you got them.  Maybe you fought the Brinstar Worm more than once, or screwed up trying to get Crateria's power bomb.

Whatever it may be, just remember, seconds can add up.  In my case, I estimate I lost at least a half-hour because of messing around, saving way too damn often, fighting bosses too carefully (which thankfully I did not do with Ridley; killed him with 9 health left, but he was dead.), or what have you.

If you're going for speed, do yourself a favor, and reset the game when you mess up.  Sure, it's annoying, but which sucks more: having to repeat a part 4-5 times before you get it right, or having to go through the game again because of that mistake?

Food for thought.

I'm shooting for a time under 1:50 on my next run.  Wish me luck!
I am speechless Dave... You are a god!

Anyhow, I just did:

1:33:22 100% Normal

Better than the previous (obviously..) I am still making some mistakes by not getting some missiles on my first attempt, getting hit when I should not be, etc.. Maybe I shall see how fast I could do it on Easy... I could do an hour, but then Dave will probably pull out 20 minutes...  Laughing  8)

The beginning seems to take me the most amount of time.. I will be out of Kraid's area at around 18-20 minutes... Be out of Ridely at around 40-45 minutes (some missiles still annoy me.. Like the collapsable block one.. I actually got that on my FIRST try on the above run..) So, I got PLENTY of time to knock off...

I am pretty good at Tourian.. On the above run, I entered at 50 minutes even and had Mother Brain defeated by 52:30 :) <---- Is that good??? I am not sure... Question  Question

kirby, meet kip.
Well, remember, practice makes perfect.

On all of my latest 100% runs, I enter Tourian sub 30 minutes. In the sub 1hr run, I enter sub 29 minutes. If you have seen any of my emulated runs, then the route I follow is very similar, so that gives you a general idea of what it takes.

I get to the save before the larve just before Ridley with a time of around 19 minutes, if I remember correctly.

I also enter Kraid without long/charge beam sub 5 minutes.

And so there you have a couple of checkpoints to glare at.

Those checkpoint numbers are damn near scary Dave... Insane, but still awesome! I am lucky if I can enter Kraid at 10 minutes...  Laughing

But, I AM getting better.. My current run has me entering Tourian at 44 minutes.. My last run was 52 minutes... So, practice makes perfect as you said :)
1:52:21 on Normal with 100%

Now I need to try hard.
I might just pop off for a quick easy 100% now that you mention it.

Still got some work to do, but I am slowly getting my time further and further down :D

WHAT ON EARTH DID I MISS!!!  Embarassed
Not impossible
just highly unlikely

If you're playing on a completed file (with the screw attack symbol beside it on the file select) you can check the item count on the maps and see at least what type of item you missed in what area.
Just finished Hard 100%, final time

Damn, I'm so slow.
Damn Dave, and I thought MY score was impressive. Good job man.

Man Dave...when I play this at the stores I usually just get the Charge Beam at 5 min....yeah, I suck, get over it, my total combined time of playing 2D Metroid is about 2 hr...hehe, I once beat Arachnus from Fusion in about 5 min. at the store demo, first time playing the game too...ok, 15, close enough...
I've decided Samus's eyes are too almond shaped.  I like Fusion better.  Ah well.
Normal 32% 37:05

I think the % is right, but I'm not sure.  Anybody know the "official" WR for nomal any%?  The lowest time I've heard of is 35:59 (not counting the 32:xx savestate run), but I'm not sure what difficulty that was on.  I can probably break that on my next run anyway, but I was just wondering.
circa, you should really record with a gbp if you can. i would be happy to host your run, since you are obviously competing with the best.
So far I've got

1:08:43 100% Normal

0:38:16  33% Normal

Latest 100% run: 0:15:45 at first Norfair save.

I'm personally not a fan of Hard mode.  It's more of an inconvenience than a challenge at this point.  i.e., bosses take longer to kill due to having half the usual arsenal, or having to backtrack to replenish your missiles when normally you wouldn't have to.  I respect those who play in Hard, though I probably won't try speed runs anytime soon in it.
Nate-

I do have a GBP and I plan on recording the next run I do.  I'll let you know when it's finished and I can mail it to you.  I've already found ways to lower about 30 seconds off of my previous run, and with all the missed jumps and whatnot that I had, I am fairly confident that I can get a sub 36 with a solid run.
awesome. hope you've seen scarlet's run, might be able to learn something from that. i'm still working on my fusion-nominal, btw, on segment 5 (giant plant to serris) right now, and it's looking excellent, much better than i'd hoped. prefer not to project any times in public, but i would like to think that it will easily be the world record. look forward to talking to you again.
I haven't watched Scarlett's run, actually.  I should probably do that before attempting another any% run.  I've been having some trouble with the first segment today.  Lots of very random factors that all need to go right is not fun.  Good luck with Fusion, I'll try to be online later tonight and we can talk about it.
GameCube04, what route are you using for any %?  I tried one last night and got total crap 48:46  Embarassed .  I figured I can subtract 5 minutes off that if I was capable of skipping the zip line boss, but it's still not close to :3x.  Also since you're very close to me, you wouldn't even need to mail the tape to nate, could just bring it by here for me to capture it. Shocked
