Also, Izo, I'd say that the average cost for a univeristy here is anywhere from ten to twenty thousand dollars and up. For example, the private college that I'm looking at costs upwards of thirty thousand dollars, though I'm hoping to get a bunch of scholarship money to help me out.

Man, here in the Netherlands the collage fee is about 1400 euros a year, which is about 1600 dollars. Books are around 600 euros a year (+/- 700 dollars). And we get atleast 240 euros a month from the goverment (if you live on your own) up to 500 euros a month if your parents are 'poor'. So basicly, college is almost free, compared to US/UK. And the top uni's are almost the same level as harvard and such, minus the international recognition.
how do you decide if you want to go to a top uni or not?

Oh, and for those wondering, yeah, I know I look like George Constanza in that last pic. I know it full well and am damn proud of it. Only difference is that I get to go out with hotties. :P

Mostly distance, and the preferred study. Other factors are room costs, and how cool the city is (clubs, disco's etc). For example, I could study computer science in Amsterdam, but I chose Enschede, which is 2 hours more by train, because the university there is much better (2nd best in the Netherlands, and one of the biggest, most beautiful campus of Europe, it's built between woods, plus the courses they give are much more interesting and practical). The rooms in Enschede are also pretty damn cheap compared to Amsterdam (250 compared to 450 euros).
But most people do studies that are only in one or two places, so they choose the one that is the closest to home.

Many people also do HBO instead of uni. HBO is bachelor-level, so you do in 4 years what you do in the first 3 years of uni. It's more aimed at 'the real world', so real companies farm out work to HBO students, and they learn from it and sometimes make a little money.

My uni, the University of Twente, is unique in the fact that it works a bit like the HBO, but on a higher level. So less abstract courses, and a more 'hands-on' approach. Which is rather my style, try, try, learning as you go, until it works instead of learning, learning, learning, learning, and try when you are finished with uni.

Hmm, a bit off-topic here, wasn't thread-derailing officially discouraged? :P
I just read all the 22 pages of this thread out of pure boredom and still don't know if GM is an it, a she, a he, or everything in one. Really odd ...
And why do people with only 3 posts post their pictures here? Do they want to showthemselfes to the whole world? Really odd again ...  Rolling Eyes
i honestly had no idea this wasn't the social topic until just now.

meh, i'll just attach these posts to the social topic OH WAIT. >_<

You're probobly going to slap me for this but, what language is the norm wher you go to study? [just curious ^^]

Always wanted to go in the general Europe area ..  do they allow international students to enroll? it'd be awesome to spend that little on college, I dont particularly care about the recognition of the school...

about the dress code, my eighth grade didn't have dresscode. It was a small school in the middle of nowhere and everyone knew eachother, so they expected us to be mature enough to be in moderation.
My highschool is a little differant, [ http://www.stjacademy.org/ ] UBER expensive school, but since my town has no highschool I go for free ^^ I love my little middle-of-nowhere town ;D ;D .. The dress code for boys is a dress shirt, tie and slacks. I dont mind it, but the girls dress code is much more liberal. The teachers vary in enforcement, but for the most part you get an hour detention if you dont have a tie. ^^ watching teachers crack down is fun ^^
A tie every day? That's horrible. I hate wearing ties, and only do so when necessary.
soaking through
What's so bad about ties?  I wear one every day.  Having to wear one in school is good practise for if you have to wear one for work too.
I find them uncomfortable, and somewhat stupid when you think about it. What's the point of a strip of cloth hanging from your neck?
One shall stand, one shall ball.
I remember the one time I wore a tie, it felt like I was being strangled. But then I almost always wear just jeans and a T-shirt, I don't do formal stuff.
I don't mind wearing ties at all, but I prefer not to wear them; I can never get them on or off properly.

I actually quite like ties, though I don't wear them all that often. Windsor Knot ftw!
It took me years to get my fiancé to wear a tie, because he was terrified of the prospect of tying it.  As a geek, his wardrobe was constantly t-shirt, jeans, sneakers.  This summer, though, we had two weddings to attend and he bowed to the inevitable and got some dress clothes (including several nice ties), and started actually looking forward to dressing up.  He practiced tying his tie every night the week before the first wedding, and managed it just fine.  I'm so proud.

Tying a tie is actually really easy to learn and do if you learn the "default" way. More complicated knots, like the Windsor, look slightly better, but you know, it doesn't really matter that much. >_>

Tying a tie reminds me of solving a rubiks cube somehow. I never wanted anyone to show me how...I wanted to figure it out myself. >_>
why are american universitys and colleges so extremely expensive?
how much does it cost to study chemistry or biochemistry or physics in the usa?
what is the difference between college and university?
What luck, there's french fry stuck in my beard.
Because I'm a narcissistic bastard, and I don't see a single photograph on this page, I decided to upload another photo of me.

Cripes, that's scary.
Apparently I don't know how to tie a tie the normal way... all I know is windsor and double windsor.
