lol, yeah, that was the thing I hated most about junior high school, particularly the eighth grade. The funny thing is that the hardest, longest essays I've ever had to write were in eighth grade. They were supposedly "preparing us for high school", but everything in high school has been far, far easier (at least until I get to A.P. Literature next year).

The dress code wasn't enforced in my high school either, except by a couple teachers I had. I don't remember if it was in middle school or not. I never did anything in middle school, nor learned anything. It was a joke. Middle school was the biggest waste of two years of my life. I do remember though, in a school nearby (this was in high school) a kid had a shirt that said "International Terrorist" and had a picture of Bush, and the faculty told him to turn it inside out. Then they had a flap about "free speech, yadda yadda". I think that may be why they don't enforce dress codes, they don't want to deal with people whining about "free expression". Or they know it won't help, so they don't bother.

I swear America's like some sort of utopia compared to England. It just gets harder and harder here, with massive jumps between exam levels.

that's only what we call high school though ... aren't your universities crap on a stick compared to ours though? just talking generally. obviously you can find excellent (and not so excellent) universities both here and there.

yep ... you probably pay only a few hundred dollars' worth in tuition? tuition at my university (a publicly-funded one) is in excess of $5,000 per year for an in-state student (the cheapest rate). it's a pretty nice institution for being inexpensive, though.

Also, Izo, I'd say that the average cost for a univeristy here is anywhere from ten to twenty thousand dollars and up. For example, the private college that I'm looking at costs upwards of thirty thousand dollars, though I'm hoping to get a bunch of scholarship money to help me out.
