I am reminded of that movement several years back to change the name of master and slave drivers because those terms are racist. The irony being, of course, to assign racial connotations to those terms is in and of itself pretty fucking racist.
yeah man because anything called black and white is automatically referring to race
Quote from Quietus:
The sad thing is that for some people it is the first thing they think of.
If you look at this topic you'd think it was like that for most people. And yeah, I know all of that is pretty much joking around, but it's still the idea that there WILL be people out there who think of race whenever they hear the names of the 5th gen.
Personally, a Good/Evil split would be an interesting direction if done right, and it's the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the names. I thought I heard on some other forum that one guy wondered if it could go as far as playing the Hero or the Rival depending on which version you got, which to me would be more incentive to get each version than normal if the gameplay is different depending on who you are.
Wouldn't mind seeing more of the Distortion World that was in Platinum either, as I can see the split between that world and the normal Pokemon world being a core element of a game pretty easily. They could get some pretty crazy Pokemon designs out of that.
I presume they've gone with Black / White for a reason, but it does seem strange when there were surely enough options to avoid such issues. Light / Shade, for example.
this is just the japanese name guys ... i doubt they associate it with race like americans do. the english name isn't official, so they could end up doing some shit like light and shadow.
and I bet most of the kids that buy it would choose dark over light because EL OH EL IT WOULD MEAN IM EVIL AND THATS SOOO COOOOOL. Same goes with all the kids that roll Horde.
So for more speculation, here's a trio of silhouettes representing the new starters that I saw on Serebii. They suggest we'll see the actual pokemon later this week.
I kinda like the top left and bottom ones, but I have no clue what the other one is supposed to be at all.
