Nope, not yet. Waiting for the US release to get the game, as I always do. I'll have White by then, but that's still a good 5-6 months from now so I can't help.

thanks for the response anyway, Prime Hunter. :>

and i got one already, so no longer looking for a trader. unless someone wants me to help them out with black-only pokes.

why don't you two trade living arrangements then?
red chamber dream

i used to fill the dex up to 3rd gen but it was so annoying, time consuming and hard to do in that gen that i gave up on that from 4th gen onwards.
the only dex i would fill now is the regional one that has the new pokes. i still haven't filled them in DP but might do so when BW's release is near. i'm missing few pokes anyway.
i leveled up plenty of pokes to build a team but i still haven't done any of them. my plans to battle over wifi kinda fell though the cracks for 4th gen so i'm hoping that with the 5th one i'll get something done. it sucks that pokes are apparently one-way transfers so it will take a bit to decide which ones to bring over.

I did the first few generations to full, as I could emulate them, and use a program to 'link' with the same emu and trade them over.  Also, this gets me Gengar, and that is all that I need.
Didn't No$GBA support link emulation? I haven't used that emulator since I discovered VBA-M, which is way better than both No$GBA and VBA.

No$gba doesn't work with BW now. Desmune is the only option.
I figure this is the better place to put this than in the tournament topic since it relates more to older pokemon.

Found out earlier today while looking for Pokemon info that apparently one of the changes they made in BW (finally!) is that you can properly EV train lvl 100 pokemon. From what I understand, EVs are now applied as soon as you get them rather than when you level up, so even though you can't get XP anymore you can still get the EVs if I follow everything right.

So this means I just spent a good 20 minutes or so flying around Sinnoh in my Platinum game planting berries all over the place to get some more of those EV berry varieties. Seeing as we can't bring items forward with us from 4th gen to 5th gen and these berries are either not available yet or very hard to obtain in BW, I'm getting a bunch together now to use on some of my in-game guys that I've had for years before I send them over to BW for some proper training and fine tuning to get them back into shape, so to speak.

I hadn't seen this ever mentioned in our discussions of Black and White, and seeing as this also applies to any lvl 100s people may get through trades or events (like the Arceus ones, for example) I figured this was pretty important. Obviously not everyone is into EV training and competitive battling, and I'm not that advanced or experienced with it myself, but it could still be helpful to know for anyone like me who wants to revitalize any lvl 100s that were never given proper EV training.
Just completed the dex (all 649 pokemon) in 58 hours of playtime.

i find it easier to just redo the pokemon entirely if i messed up the EV training. that's how i did with the pokes i trained in early 3rd gen when i knew shit about the new EV system and then later found out that my pokes sucked.

it is useful for event pokes that can't be recatched though.

btw, i beat white already and now i'm going though black. after that, i'll either breed some pokes, catch some of the legends (the hard way now because of no cloning trick for masterballs) or fill the BW dex. i managed to catch all the DP pokes like 2 days after i got BW so i don't need any old pokes and, luckily for me, i managed to get the celebi event so i can have a good one after lots of resets.

the transfer mechanics are much better now. i migrated all my pokes in just 1 day. they were like 100 in total. i wish it was possible to migrate items just for the masterballs and lucky eggs.

I'd want to trade a bunch of those items you have to regain through the Battle Subway, since even though I enjoy fighting in there and the Battle Tower I rarely get enough points in the long run to get everything I want. I haven't moved anyone up from gen 4 at the moment, since I'm waiting for the team I mentioned before to be ready and I plan to send them over first. It's much faster now, then? That's very convenient, since I know eventually I'll have a bunch I'll want to migrate over.

And yeah, there have been a few times where I've simply resorted to re-doing pokemon, one of which was because I had gotten a shiny Ralts after chaining for it, but for the team I'm thinking of specifically it would feel wrong to do that. They've been with me since my first run through Fire Red and are an updated version of my original "competitive" team from the RBY era so I have some attachment to them at this point. It doesn't take that long to grow the berries I'll need for them anyway. I'll have a bunch in a few hours and then will replant some more tonight and probably have enough to make the necessary changes.

Oh, and for me at least, it felt like most of the legendaries weren't as tough to catch as they have been in the past. Either I got extremely lucky in both my Black and White games or else they go down much quicker than before. Could also be that I know the value of Dusk Balls these days when it comes to certain legendaries since they're much more useful than anything else.
red chamber dream
the catch rate is the same as always, although there's now a small chance of getting an instant catch, which i guess makes the odds slightly better.

Prime Hunter: 2011-03-30 06:13:59 pm
True, forgot about the critical catches, although I don't think I had any when a legendary was involved. Maybe I'm just better at it after five generations of hunting them. I still remember catching Ho-oh for the first time on Gold since that is arguably the biggest trouble I've had with a legend to date. Took me forever.
I'm assuming they changed the pokeball catch rate formula. I caught Victini with a Great Ball after a few tries, I also caught Landorus with an Ultra Ball and Kyurem with a Dusk Ball after a couple of tries.

I didn't get critical catches on any of them.
red chamber dream
they didn't change it, you just had good luck. all the pokes you listed have a catch rate of 3, the standard rate for legendaries.
Yeah, I think Victini out of all of them gave me the most trouble, now that I think about it. Granted, I went after him as soon as I got to the point you could take the boat out to Liberty Island, so I was around his level and had Great Balls at best.

Yes, I am aware that they all have the same catch rate. I should have used a different word, I meant this formula:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Catch_formula_1.png

I could be wrong, of course, but I don't think it's just a coincidence, as I'm not the only one who thinks they're easier.
red chamber dream
if it were changed, bulbapedia's catch rate page would say so >_>
If the date of that image is accurate that's from 2007 anyway, so if it had changed in BW they'd most likely have changed the formula image by now since it's been out in Japan for a few months.

Nevermind.
Not necessarily, as their new experience formula is horrendously inaccurate the last time I checked.

And I might as well since this topic was bumped: Anyone want to temporarily trade me their Reshiram and Tornadus? <_<

I assumed the catch formula changed since Masuda's method, exp formula and stuff got changed and it seemed easier in general for people to catch stuff, but I guess I was wrong since there's nothing on it on any website.

I would but I guess you're not on now. I have almost every fully evolved pokemon in case you need something.

Also, what the hell is up with the people on the GTS? Level 2 Hoothoot's for Zekrom and Reshiram?
