yeah ... that was a mysql upgrade gone awry. things should be resolved now.

this has really started out a bad year for the forum, though i guess (on the bright side) it hasn't been deleted yet like it was in 2004.

OMFG DOUBLE POST!!! Shocked

...Ahem...

Now more seriously, yeah, I was wondering that. I spent the whole morning trying to get in and all I'd get would be an empty white index page. -_-
Yeah went kinda gagah over not being able to access the forum.
the problem was just confirmed not to stem from the smart tags mod. thus, the mod has been restored. however, until a solution is found, it will be necessary to stop mysql every time it threatens to use all of the system resources, perhaps even an automated way. please pardon any mysql errors you may see during this time and try checking back later.
Seems like nobody's filespace here at M2K2 is working...  Not just mine, but none of Sparly's stuff is showing up, either...

Edit:  Ah.  Bandwith problems.  Filespace will be back up after the first of the month.
i apologize for the outage. this has been a hectic month as we transition the sites piecemeal to the new host. radix promises to be more careful in the future with his torrent babies.

You treat that new host like a lady, and she'll always bring ya home.

If Zeke can't name the series, episode number, episode title, and speaking character I'll be very disappointed.
dr. mccoy, star trek: the next generation, episode 1, "encounter at farpoint". and i think you misquoted him, but my memory is a little foggy when it comes to his exact words. he's talking to data, i do remember that.
Cook of the Sea
Hehe.  Well sure I misquoted him, otherwise it wouldn't have fit here.
changed the number of topics per page to 20 and the number of posts per page back to 25 to try to reduce system load from mysql queries and moderator load from idiots bumping ancient topics. i will be very interested to see whether this remedy improves the situation.
my umbrella goes directly to Bankai
hm, i just noticed the 25 posts per page in this topic :p

also, i never noticed the downtime of the forum. maybe it was down while i was asleep...

Idiots bumping ancient topics is a problem?
Did you ask others? ~_~

where have you been?

I didn't feel uncomfortable making the decision more or less on my own, because I felt like it was something that had to be done for more than one highly convincing reason. (Someone just had to remind me that it was an option.) For example, it is a fact that fewer posts per page will reduce the load on MySQL and on Apache, reducing the chances of another locking hang.

Who are you and what have you done with nate?

Seriously though, I think it's better with 25 posts per page.  More hilarious page break posts.  >_>
red chamber dream
Doesn't really matter at all to me. But now the extra long topics look even longer.
It just makes topics look bigger.  I.E.-the sig/avatar topic being at 81 pages now.  >.>  I am, however, clueless to how doing this will (Hopefully) stop some of the bumping.  I haven't had my own forums long, so maybe I'm missing something experienced forum-owners get, but what is the thought process behind doing this will cause less bumping?  Something like,

"Well, it already has 50 pages, I better not post anymore."  ?

In my general experience, stupid people bumping are going to be stupid people bumping.  Until you ban them. :P
meant the topics per page, not the posts per page.
Oh.  Go me not re-reading everything I read and missing stuff.  My bad.

After changing the number of posts per page, I have now caused four (I think) page-breaks.  And the change came yesterday.  Wow.  It really does make a difference...
