The problem with ZSS in 3D is that the camera would inevitably focus on her oversized posterior, thus getting in the way of the action.

man, i don't like on-rail games at all. it's pretty disappointing that most 3rd party devs want to make that shit only and not make some real games like mp3 using the pointer.
good thing this was just mistranslations. hopefully people learn to not trust kotaku since that site is full of shit most of the time.

I found a concrete example how I think about Sakamotos primary vision. It is nothing like wii-re or similar. Gameplay-technically it is (almost) a sidescroller, there might only be slight changes in perspective if you dont exaggerate it. Personally I would rather prefer this sidescroller-style because you can add more gameplay-depth than with team-ninjas solution. But best solution would be 2D only since otherwise most of the 3D-geometry you see is not in game-logic-use or not in a consistent game-logic-use. An example for this is Shadow Complex.
That looks like what I thought the game would be like from the descriptions.
So it is funny to see how "everyone" wants a 2D metroid while abusing Sakamoto and thanking Team Ninja at the same time.
Sakamoto's great, it was just the notion of a Dead Space: Extraction ripoff as a Metroid game that annoyed me, but that annoyance seems misplaced, considering it was just a misinterpretation.
I'm still wondering why they couldn't just have made the game a side scroller with Wiimote-base aiming. What I mean by that is you use the nunchuk to move around with the analog stick, and use the C button to morph into a ball, and the Z button to jump. Meanwhile, the Wiimote would be used to control the angle of Samus' gun and the B button would be used to shoot (obviously), while A could serve as an "action button" to activate panels, access terminals, use elevators, and whatnot. That would have been the perfect control scheme for something like this, but I guess they had some much more simpler in mind, I don't know.

Thats the problem I have with this trend, no depth in movement and action.

Oh, I missunderstood what Sakamoto was trying to say.

you know what would be good? a 2d metroid with the graphics of muramassa... that would kick ass

but i still think this DMC-like camera the best...

Quote from Toozin:
To establish: 'on rails' here means a 2D sidescroller constructed out of polygons ala Shadow Complex, not an on-rails shooter ala House of the Dead.

Ohhhhh that makes a lot more sense then. I thought you guys were all talking about House of the Dead style rail shooter. I was just like... how could anyone think thats a good thing to do to metroid?
