Alas, I'm still just learning Japanese. I know a lot about the language, and I know two of the three alphabets (the easy ones), but as for vocabulary and kanji, I'm barely starting. I'm gonna keep at it, though. I love languages and I love a challenge -- Japanese is very different from any of the others I know.
At any rate, the parts I do know will get you surprisingly far, at least in media works. For instance, I can often read Japanese signage on TV -- about half the time, it's English written in katakana. (Katakana is also used with regular Japanese just for emphasis, the way we'd use all caps.) And when I played the Japanese Fusion ROM, I could understand almost everything, including a little difference that I've been waiting for the right moment to bring up. Check this out:
As you can tell by the grapevine suit, this is Samus after finding out about the Metroid breeding program and getting disillusioned with Adam. Notice the quotation in the third last line? It's "Wakata na, Redei?" again -- "Any objections, Lady?" The quote appears early on in both versions, but she doesn't quote him again here in the English. I'd love to know why that is. Unfortunately, although I've transcribed all the text, there are parts I can't read yet. Can any real Japanese-speakers chip in?

Say, what did that GEKI TAI MACHINE translate to?
I hadn't actually heard of that text before, but I see by googling that it's in the Zero Mission ROM. "gekitai" is real Japanese -- fortunately, I know an excellent online dictionary. It means "repulse" or "repel". My guess is it refers to the orb cannons.
As for the beta Fusion look, it was cool, but overall I'm with BioSpark. The Fusion we got is plenty creepy when it wants to be.
i checked it out on my jap cartridge and it looks different, but i believe that's because there are two different things you can choose in the beginning of the game that have something to do with the symbols displayed. however, the quoted part is still there. dunno why it's mentioned twice, but i can't help because i don't know anything about japanese.

it may be possable that there are two different stories in the PAL version, little kids might not remeber the quote from the beginning/near the begging of the game so the probably bring up other things to help younger audiences. This could also mean that there is a larger story ( than our games ) that is only in the PAL version.Think we could be missing out on a deeper kind of story that only those lucky PAL region residents get to see .
hmm... *looks at the pic of sa-x on the(well apparently...)main deck and raises eye brow* i think that background stuff still might be in the rom, time for a lookey :3
later >.> :i didn't find those tiles but i did find something else :3 the unused titles are to the far right of th picture.
That'd just be offscreen tiles used during scrolling, it means nothing..
@Zeke: Gekitai Machine is the bug repellent machine.
To be honest, nothing new was found is this topic. The first pic was thought to be a debug message, however it is just a normal message from the game (after recovering Ice Beam, read your objective from the map screen); the second screen shows some nest thing, however that's the first part of the following spriteset (I think, Yakuza's there too); a comment pointed out that 'Power' was on the tileset, and thought it referred to Power Suit or Power Beam, however, it's actually the 'Power' under the Bombs section for Power Bombs.

the nest looks quite different from part of yakuza's sprite, however your post still does not call on the unused charge beam or the cat thing.
Oh yeah, the power beam does have a charged shot, you just can't use it without either cheat codes or hacking because the charge beam item changes your beam completely. The developers must have decided to upgrade the whole weapon when getting change beam later in development. The cat is the symbol for the debug company I think, I dunno, I don't have my hacking tools on this computer
Has anyone already found beta Yakuza room? I was searching through Fusion with some hacking software and I had found around 6 rooms that I havent seen in game.
