I stumbled upon the article in Wikitroid today for Metroid: Other M, and I found something that exactly describes a rough idea I had years ago (1995-ish) after Super Metroid came out. These ideas were drawn up for a SM2 if one was ever released.
This idea was to implement the ability to switch view perspectives at the push of a button, from 2D to 3D and back again, to handle tougher areas, such as grapple rooms and precise jumping sections.
This is not the first time I've seen one of my ideas implemented years after I originally thought of it. Metroid Prime uses the idea I had of a visor view of the action, with the exception of the HUD using an optional button guide for less talented players.
