Every Bit Counts
I did a grapple + IBJ to get up above grapple. note on Snes9x v1.51

Edit: WTF!!! I'll need to redo the smv. sorry.

Edit 2: Redid it.

Edit 3: A better looking one IMO.

Edit: Shows how I got to the E-Tank.

Looking forward for your next hack, but right now will try Dependence.
Hm, either there's something wrong with my ver of SNES9x v1.51 or there's something wrong with those SMVs. It says I need a different version despite the fact that I'm using 1.51

Speaking of that, here's a sneak peak of that in case I didn't post this here (I dont think I did):

Sadly, don't expect it any time soon though, since it's a lot bigger than GD and I'm working on it even slower.

Every Bit Counts
I recorded that on the new Snes9x v1.51 (choose one of the bottom 2). Can't wait till your next hack. Also, was this suppost to be my first Super Missile Pack (I had to go through acid to get it, so I assume not.

Actually, hilariously enough, it is the first (deceptive, making you go through part of the lower part of what would be Norfair so early on in the game I know). I hope the acid wasn't too much trouble. Depending on how you approach it, I didn't find many problems with it as long as in the first main elevator room of lower underworld, you go through the top route and fall straight down to the door rather than trying to charge down the slope into it.
Well, no idea why I'm posting this here, but just as an update, my clean up job for Dependence is done now:

http://www.freewebs.com/blacktelomeres/Super_Metroid_Dependence_v2.rar

Not enough is changed to justify a replay from anyone who has already completed it obviously, but a lot of little graphical bugs and such have been cleaned up, so anyone who wants to play or replay the game in the future will benefit. The list of what was fixed is in the readme. If and when anyone plays it, let me know if I've introduced any new bugs.
Wait, you're making another hack?  I thought you'd said you weren't going to! (Unless that was someone else...)

Either way, I'll be waiting to play it whenever it's done.
I may have said I wasn't going to, however, I had to change my mind since my brain got the best of me because it came up with new ideas. The issue with this one is that it will go much slower since it's closer to redesign size than normal hack size and because I'm working on it more leisurely.
Ok so being a mega-noob in this area I have some fundamental questions which I hope someone is kind enough to answer :)

1. Which emulator is prefered for this game?
2. Do you need any kind of game controller plugged in to be able to play (required for wall-jumping etc)?

I downloaded an emulator called Snes.-tool 1.2 but I have no clue how to open the game. "Use IPS" seems like the most logical alternative in the menu, but it doesn't open -.-.

Please help me I'm dying to try this game :D
1. Snes9x
2. Not really, most people can do walljumping with the keyboard - it might take some getting used to (some even find it easier with the keyboard although I wouldn't agree with that)

Also, SNEStool is just the patching prog. You select use IPS, select the IPS of the game on the leftmost menu, hit enter, then it'll say select image or something, you select the rom, and it'll patch. Then you open that in SNES9x or ZSNES.

Alternatively, if you throw the IPS in the same directory with the same name as the rom, newer versions of SNES9x and ZSNES will "autopatch" so you dont have to use a prog like SNEStool.

Ok thanks. So to autopatch:

What is the rom-file? I can't see any. Because I can't open .ips with Snes9x 1.51

Or alternatively, using snes-tool. What do I do when the program says: "Select GAME file for .ISP patch". Selecting super metroid.isp again causes it to say: "This is no correct IPS file!"

...
You have to find the rom of SM on the Internet. The IPS is merely the changes that will turn the original SM into this game.
Ok so I have the original super metroid rom in the same directory as the ips and they have the same name. Now open the rom as usual? That just makes the original game play... :P
Then I guess your emu doesnt have that feature? I guess use the patching option with SNEStool then.

Well, if SNESTool doesn't work, find Lunar IPS from FuSoYa's Niche.
Random news: Volus X volunteered to encode the rough speed run, split it up into segments and uploaded it to Youtube. He just finished uploading them today. Had to put them in the code tag though, otherwise it might cause some bad loading times on this particular page since the board would load the preview screen of all 21 vids.

Ok thanks it worked with lunar ips.

Anyone got any tips on keyboard configuration?
My suggestion, as odd as it may sound is this: Arrow keys for movement (obviously) and then the numpad to the right of that's 1,2,4,5 as b,a,y,x with perhaps 3,4 as l and r. That's about as close as you're going to get to a regular SNES controller in positioning with a keyboard. Some people use keys to the left for b,a,y,x but since that's the reverse of the normal SNES controller (movement to the right and actions to the left), I find that awkward.

Thanks a bunch for this :)

I suggest (if you're looking for something like a snes controller) to use a w s d as left up down right, and use the arrow keys as abyx. I use q and e for aim up/down.

Then again, I'm on a laptop, and have never tried BT's recommendation due to my lack of number pad, so his might be better

I know it may be messed up, but right hand on your arrow keys, and for your left hand, Left Shift for Angle Up, Left Control for Angle Down, Z for Dash, X for Shoot, C for Jump, V for Item Cancel, D for Item Select, F for Map/Status. I just line my fingers in a row when I'm using an emulator.

Edit: Changed control scheme.
Acclaimed Threshold
Constant Sorrows
I use arrow keys for movement, G for shoot, F for jump, D for run, R for item switch, E for aim up, T for aim down, and Shift for item cancel. I have no idea how or when I got into this habit. Guess it carried over from touch-typing back in grade school.

I'd say these are probably about equivalent. If I didn't have a number pad I'd probably use your config or something similar.
this is probably old news to you but i looked at gd in smile and it looked excellent  :-D
but one thing that bugged me was the invincible enemy in the room with the missle pack in the lower left corner it may just be my bad playing but i couldent get past this point(big dissapointment)
anyway i just wonderd if this was supposed to be their or if its a bug. thanks for making pallet changes tho grin new. as no one else seems to bother
I'm not sure exactly what room you mean. Do you mean in the Sky Temple and a SM pack in the lefthand corner?
