Okay, what were you thinking when you made the Ridley fight?  You enter the fight waaaay weaker than in the original SM.  Okay, I died pretty fast, tried again, this time succesfully pulling off a CF during the fight.  I died again after that and as it turns out, I hadn't changed his color at all.

Puzzled and a bit upset, I opened your rom to check his health.  What the hell were you thinking to INCREASE his health for a fight you shouldn't be fighting with as little equipment as you have at the time!?  In the original SM he has 18000 health and in your game he has 21000.  At least in the original SM you had all of your abilities and weapons!  Here, I have 39 missiles, 15 supers (5 of which I can use if I want to CF to survive), 15 PBs (same thing as Supers) and Charge+Wave, plus Varia's protection.  I thank god you didn't make Varia the reward and have you fight him in a heated room.

I refuse to manually lower his health in order to beat him.  I shouldn't have to do that.  I know this is a hard hack and all, but this is where I draw the line.  I've tried and tried to beat it, but no more.  I can't take this difficulty.  It's not that I'm a bad player, in fact I'm quite good at all the hard tricks and stuff.  It's that you seem to have a very bad concept of difficulty when it comes to hack making.  You've had to make two easier versions and even then I can't beat it.  Something's wrong there.

Sorry, but I just can't finish this.  It was nice, but I can't taker it anymore.  Easier than Cliffhanger hard mode my left foot.  Evil or Very Mad
Sorry I don't make very easy hacks  :|

You've probably abandoned the hack, but...

@ everyone: I've made the hopefully final Easy update on the main post, where every hard thing I can think of is easier, including bosses. Ridley has half the HP he used to have.
Acclaimed Threshold
Constant Sorrows
The ideal challenge is simply "console conditions". Would it be beatable on an SNES without driving someone crazy? That's all you really have to aim for, at least with the easy version. If your hack requires save states, you've already missed something.

Anyway, if you make a console-conditions version, I'll play it.
Please note this "console conditions" rule excludes Hotarubi.
Here's a headered version of the original version that I was asked by someone to make.
I want to apologize for being so angry in my last post.  Today's not been a very good day IRL and I took out my anger on your hack. Sorry. :(

I tried it on both, but I am fairly sure the smv was recorded on Normal.  Hopefully it helped enough, either way.  Wink

yeah it did, the thing i was doing wrong was that, beside getting hit by the red bouncy orb, i would try to heal with the fiery thingies in the tall room, and try to use the platforms, yes, pretty stupid, but the first time i got there i tried to wall jump and couldn't make it, and i though "maybe i gotta use the ~5 enemies in that room to heal and go up.

Anyways, i made it past there, might get stuck later, i know it, so... cya laters. :<

Edit: lol hai 2 u 2

Sorry for double post but i think i need a new post for this, since the last one would look akward with the pictures xd.

i got the speed booster, and I'm in red brinstar, or grey brinstar now i guess, and there's this.. speed booster blocks blocked by power bomb blocks, i tried charging the speed boost from the left room, drop a bomb and try a diagonal shine to get up there, but the shine runs out before the PB explodes... i am doing something wrong?
Are you laying the pb as soon as the speedbooster is charged? And are you midair morphing to the top of the pb blocks before the pb destroys the blocks?
Edit history:
ZephyrZx: 2008-09-25 11:53:47 pm
wait, how im supposed to lay a PB after i charged, if i have to charge it 1 room before the shaft? o.o

nvm I'm an idiot... anyways, i give up, i guess ill put the bluesuit code and check stuff out, precision ain't fun when it takes 10+ tries to do 1 stupid room to get stuck on the next one...
Been playing this off and on the last few days (Playing the Original Version).  Quite fun I must say.  The precision is high, but not enough to be hair-rippingly deathtastic.  Toughest stuff so far has been the heated runs in Norfair.  First one heading to Crocomire and the one I did today heading for the Wave Beam both took some time to make it to a non-heated room...usually with under 20 energy left (and no reserves in the case of the 2nd one).

Just acquired the Wave Beam (GT was a pushover when I realized I could get him into a loop on the left side of the room).  Several new areas to go explore with it tomorrow before finding out where to head next.
Just read that about ridley and I just have to ask (don't really mind spoilers) will I at least be granted a varia suit? Any beams other than charge?

Just got the super missiles, I feel I have some exploring to do next time I play this.
Anyway, is this meant to be an annoyance hack? Because I do find it to be sort of annoying. Some areas have water to slow you down even when you don't really have to do anything special, some places require very precise jumps or speed booster techniques (getting into kraid's was just annoying), some enemies have a stupid amount of health (right now thinking of the fish you have to kill in the room where you get super missiles). There are a lot of obstacles on the main route that does nothing but slow you down, like I'm playing some sort of challenge track. Until some time after I got the missiles I thought that since the save stations were working and in their normal places and the hack just modifies exisiting rooms, that I would be able to play it without using save states. Yeah right. It could be done without save states I guess but it just takes an unreasonably large amount of time, for now I just save state when for example something that requires a speed jump or some precise move comes up and load when I fail. Not that interesting. Players who want to prove their skills have had plenty of opportunity to do so in hacks like impossible or cliffhanger (yeah I feel the difficulty didn't add anything to cliffhanger but otherwise a good hack...). Also never been a fan of hell's runs since you always need advance knowledge - you have to check the area a few times before you know what to do. IBJ is not required? Sure, but that's one of the easiest moves in the game. I sort of agree with the "console conditions" idea, but if you're making different versions there should at least be something in between. You just lose respect for yourself if you play something called "easy" version, where every situation is suddenly changed to give the player the upper hand.

Wow, my list of criticism grew larger than I had expected o.o I hope I don't sound offensive, I've still decided to play and finish this hack, I would just like you to consider what I've said here. On the plus side, this hack really succeeds with giving you the feeling of reward when you aquire a new item. Also, while not making completely new levels, the level design feels very complete, I think that's the best word I can come up with to describe it. This might be one of the more psychotic hacks I've played though, thinking of when I was in the wrecked ship, in the form of a traditional smiley being chased around by an overpowered fish that floats around in the air and that I have to kill with my peashooter.

Missing the days when I thought getting the plasma beam in metroid limit was about the hardest challenge and that it required save states... after playing a few of the more recent hacks I feel it would be quite reasonable to try and get it from the save station. Anyway, as before, sorry for a big wall of text, this time consisting mainly of criticism :|
I'm sorry you feel that way. You do get varia when fighting ridley.

You are playing the EASY version right? The precision moves were made a whole lot easier, especially since you made it to supers.

Nothing personal ok? I think I took out my irritation on some things that bear a resemblence to other "high difficulty hacks" as well. Just consider it constructive criticism, even if it might seem otherwise...

I'm not playing easy version, just downloaded it to make sure... no, definitely not easy. Did the wall jump up from the ship at my first try in easy, less spikes in the spike room, etc. What do you mean with "especially since you made it to supers"?  :-s did you not intend for players to get them? I currently have supers, MM, bombs, SB, PB, charge, grapple, 4 e-tanks and a few missile tanks (my max missile count seems to be 18). If you were referring to "the next time I play" I meant when i continue, I'm taking a break at the moment.
I've been playing the original version and have been enjoying it for the most part.  I'm stuck after getting super missiles, I don't see a way to go other than another heated run through the sm door just inside norfair.  I have 3 e-tanks and 1 reserve and can't make it to a safe room or a refill.

I realllllllly hate heated runs.

After super, there is only the heat runs left, which aren't all that hard.

Xaggoth:
You need one etank more for the heatrun, which is simple on easy. You missed one in the room after grapple, or you missed the one before speedbooster.

The new new NEW easy version is up. >_>
With heated runs getting such negative feedback in the past, I can't understand why people keep making them.  Myself, I enjoy the challenge, but it just seems to make others angry.

Anyway, i've just started your hack.  I don't know if i'm getting less and less patient or what, but I lost interest when I got to the spike pit that is -barely- possible to avoid taking damage from.  You know, the one near the old Zebes space shaft.  Even with slowdown, it took me about 5 tries to nail that pixel perfect walljump, which I had to do because I already took damage before.

I'll give it another go tonight, I just hope there aren't more situations like this (forcing the player to take damage in situations where they might not have enough energy) with the exception of heated runs, of course.
Heat runs are fun IMO, and I'm not changing that for anybody.

I never forced the player to take damage in the spike pit. If you can't do that easily, please download the easy version for the sake of future headaches.
Actually, i've completed pretty much every hack out there, and i've even done an original SM RBO, so difficulty is not an issue for me.  I don't think you know which spike pit i'm talking about.  Its the one where you have to perform a walljump just a few pixels above the spikes, which will barely allow you to get to the other side without taking damage.  This takes a fair amount of tries with save states.  This pretty much forces a full game restart if you took damage from spikes earlier in the room, since at first glance it seems impossible.
Oh, that's good then. People generally like the easy version though.
Acquired the Spring Ball in Maridia this morning.  Started seeing where I could go with it in Maridia.  I have a hunch on where I'm supposed to go, but I'm stumped on how to pass the following room:

I think I'm supposed to do something stupidly crazy here, I just can't figure out  :P.  Maybe I need the Hi-Jump Boots or something?
Go to the highest grapple block you can go to, savestate, and then jump+freeze onto the fish. It's easier on Easy mode.  :)
